Women have long had to shoulder the burden of contraception and the gender disparity inherent in family planning is as vast as it is onerous. When Director Sophie King (whose film Swan was one of our highlights of the 2021 edition of British Shorts) was presented with Danielle Papamichael’s script for Does Your Condom Make You Fat? she immediately connected with the material and having wanted to explore a more hybrid directorial space, found herself drawn to its genre straddling potential. Does Your Condom Make You Fat? presents us with a world where men, instead of women, are responsible for taking the morning after pill and so we follow Owen, a 27 year old man, deathly hungover, battling his own failures and having to suffer through the indignity and publicly degrading experience of getting his hands on that ever so necessary emergency contraception. “Fleabag” star Angus Imrie and “Am I Being Unreasonable?” actor Juliet Cowan have joined the cast of the provocatively-titled short film “Does Your Condom Make You Fat?”

Described as an “awkward” comedy-drama, the film explores a world in which men can become pregnant. The script is from Danielle Papamichael.

Imrie plays Owen, a happy-go-lucky lad, whose reliance on the Zap App for effective contraception is disrupted when his phone battery dies. This realization triggers his fears of an unwanted pregnancy, amplified by his date’s early unannounced departure. Throughout the film, Owen grapples with a rollercoaster of emotions as he confronts the unintended consequences of his actions.

Imrie’s other credits include “The Crown,” in which he played a young Prince Edward, as well as “Star Trek: Prodigy” and “The Archers.” Meanwhile, Cowan recently starred in “The Power,” “Flatshare” and “Everything I Know About Love.”

Maskell’s feature directorial debut is a darkly comic thriller.

Jenna Coleman and Tom Burke will lead the cast of Klokkenluider, the feature directorial debut of actor Neil Maskell, which will start its three-week shoot on February 28 in East Sussex in southern England.

The film is written by Maskell, produced by Helen Simmons and Stephanie Aspin of UK production company Erebus Pictures, and executive produced by Ben Wheatley and Andy Starke at Rook Films. John Jencks is an executive producer, and Savannah Power is a co-producer.
