Jon Landau, ‘Titanic’ and ‘Avatar’ Producer, Dies at 63

Jon Landau, the Oscar-winning film producer who collaborated with James Cameron on several projects including “Titanic” and both “Avatar” films, died Friday after a battle against cancer, a source close to the family told TheWrap. He was 63 years old.

“Jon was a visionary whose extraordinary talent and passion brought some of the most unforgettable stories to life on the big screen,” Disney Entertainment co-chair Alan Bergman said in a statement. “His remarkable contributions to the film industry have left an indelible mark, and he will be profoundly missed. He was an iconic and successful producer yet an even better person and a true force of nature who inspired all around him.

“Our thoughts are with Jon’s wife, Julie, and his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Hollywood Studios and WGA to Meet Again Sunday After Marathon Talks

After four days of negotiations, the Hollywood studio chiefs and Writers Guild negotiators will meet yet again on Sunday, the two sides said in a joint statement on Saturday night.

“The WGA and AMPTP met for bargaining on Saturday and will meet again on Sunday,” it read.

Just two hours earlier, the studios made what they said was their best and final offer to the Writers Guild. A tentative deal was expected Sunday on a new labor contract between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producer, but it was unclear if the renewed talks represented a new wrinkle.

The anticipated resolution would mean a potential ending to one of the two strikes that has shut down Hollywood through the summer and past Labor Day.

Chicago – The Midwest Advertising Community will show off their short film talent at the Midwest Independent Film Festival on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019. Ten films will screen at the Landmark Century Centre Cinema, with the event beginning at 6pm. For the short film line-up, more information and to purchase tickets, click here.

The short films, created by local advertising talent, include “Pneuma” by Patrick Lewtschany, “Henchman” by Mike Roe, “Killing Irma” by Sarah Clark and “Celluloid” by Curtis Matzke.
