The fourth and final season of FX’s “Atlanta” has set a premiere date for September, with episodes streaming on Hulu the following day after air.
Starring series creator Donald Glover, Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz, the forthcoming season finds Earn, Alfred, Darius and Van back in their hometown of Atlanta after their Season 3 journey across Europe, with the overarching theme of the new season pondering whether the city has changed or if they have.
The teaser highlights many references from the show’s 31-episode run to date, including the invisible car from Season 1 episode “The Club” and an appearance from fan-favorite side character Zan, played by Freddie Kuguru. The third season featured the main cast traveling throughout Europe in just more than half of its ten episodes with the other episodes shifting back to Atlanta, containing anthology stories focused on new characters.

There’s no denying that Donald Glover is a creative force to be reckoned with, given his recent triple-threat achievements in the fields of television, music (“The Is America”), and movies (“Solo: A Star Wars Story”). With FX’s “Atlanta,” he proved that he’s not just a strong and compelling storyteller, but an important one as well.
In his first effort conceiving a TV show from the ground up, Glover created a highly personal and yet universally appealing series. Full of humor, strange surreal moments, social insight, the threat of danger, intriging performances, and gorgeous camerawork, “Atlanta” easily nabbed two Golden Globes and two Emmys in its first outing. In its second season, the comedy elevated itself to must-watch television and could snag several more trophies.

A review of tonight's Atlanta (which FX renewed, along with Better Things, earlier today) coming up just as soon as I know who Steve McQueen is... It's been a rough stretch for TV shows about the music business, with the cancellations of Vinyl (which had already been renewed!), Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll and Roadies, and the mixed reception for The Get Down. Atlanta has been doing well both critically and commercially, but it's also by far the least interested in actually exploring the music business, or how to get rich from it. Earn latched on as Alfred's manager because he thought he could find money and purpose in the job, but as Alfred notes in tonight's episode, it's very hard to actually make money in this game, and Earn isn't nearly the focused businessman he fancies himself as being. So Atlanta has very smartly told smaller stories, like last week's...
