The first footage from the upcoming season assures there will be higher stakes, bigger cons, and more drama as they court danger with each job.

As creatures of flesh and blood, humans are perishable, insignificant—but the ideas they inspire, irrespective of their moral alignment, are infectious, everlasting; and this is the central idea of the final season of The Head, which grapples with yet another murder mystery set in an isolated, extreme environment. Arthur Wilde, the biologist whose dastardly actions triggered Olivia’s murder spree in the first season, himself became the serial killer in the series’ second chapter and met his end as his own daughter, Rachel, drowned him to death. In the final season, Arthur is not physically present, but his influence continues to affect the narrative—as one of his ardent admirers takes it upon himself to take revenge on Olivia on behalf of his late idol. Thereby, the series comes full circle, pitting Arthur and Olivia against each other for a final time—and even though the ending is not...

The penultimate episode of the final season of The Head appears to be all sorts of chaotic and random. Even with only an episode remaining before the series’ conclusion, the narrative continues to dangle red herrings and insert unnecessary plot threads, all the while drastically increasing the body count, leaving only two survivors for the final showdown. Previously, as Olivia’s past actions at Polaris VI came to light, Jamal and Pierre had her captured and isolated, suspecting her to be the killer. Even though Olivia helped to crack the code of Takeshi’s malware and saved the algae research from getting sabotaged, Jamal left her locked in the basement area of the research facility. Meanwhile, Takeshi’s spy, Keiko, had learned about the series of murders taking place in the facility and managed to stage a coup by convincing fellow test volunteers to band together against the research team.

The third and final season of the survival thriller, The Head, has started its journey with a banger of a double episode premiere, and it seems like things are going back to square one to complete the cycle of violence that began with the death of Sarah Jackson and the burning of Polaris V. The first season of the series saw Maggie Mitchell, aka Olivia Jackson, getting revenge for her mother’s death by killing every member of Polaris VI, who kept the truth about Sarah’s death a secret from the rest of the world. By the end, Olivia had framed biologist Arthur Wilde, who was responsible for Sarah’s death, for the murders she committed. In the second season, Arthur was drowned to death by her own daughter, Rachel, as a retaliation for his heinous murder spree, which resulted in the deaths of the majority of the members...

Things go from bad to worse at the Saharan facility, as a clash erupts between the team of researchers and volunteers—pitting survivors from both sides in a perilous situation, at a time when the unknown killer is already turning the facility into a death trap by sabotaging supplies, planting mistrust and confusion among everyone.
In the previous episode, as the research team opted to consider water rationing and imposing restrictions after the water supply was vandalized, the volunteering test subjects expressed disagreement—resulting in a rift between two parties—which only increased after Keiko went missing. Keiko’s misadventures were discovered by Jamal, who tortured her to extract information, as he assumed Keiko to be the killer/saboteur. Olivia found the ghosts of her past returning to torment her, as Keiko turned out to be a secret agent sent by Takeshi Kobayashi to sabotage the algae research of Arthur Wilde.

The subgenre of isolation-atmospheric horror found a revolutionary new direction with the release of John Carpenter’s masterpiece, The Thing, back in the 80s. More than the nature of the supernatural dread and enigma of it, the pervading sense of paranoia, mistrust, and fear that the movie was able to evoke allowed horror fans to regard the movie as a timeless classic—and ever since, numerous ventures have tried to replicate similar results, though with little to no success. The basic premise of The Head, the psychological thriller series that places its characters in isolation against an arctic backdrop while treating the narrative as a whodunit murder mystery, is quite clearly inspired by the horror classic, which is also acknowledged by the series at one point during the first season. With high production value, competent performances, and taut storytelling, there is a lot to like in the series even if...

The Mediapro Studio has dropped a teaser for “The Head” Season 2, with first footage in the run-up to its simultaneous premiere on HBO Max in the U.S. and Spain on Dec. 22.
Season 2 rolls off a first season which has proved one of Spain’s biggest breakout hits, sold by the The Mediapro Studio Distribution to over 90 countries including top-echelon players HBO Max for the U.S., plus Starzplay, Canal Plus (France), and Amazon’s Prime Video.
It also played to positive critical reactions. “Watching this, I could practically feel the ice crystals forming on my beard – and I don’t even have a beard,” Suzi Feay wrote in The Financial Times.
Produced once more in association with Hulu Japan, Season 2, whose teaser-trailer has been shared in exclusivity with Variety, is described by Tms as an “action-packed suspense thriller.” Nothing in the teaser belies that billing. Season 2 retains many of...

The setting for “The Head” Season 2, the second part of one of Spain’s biggest breakout hits, is a massive ocean freighter at the Pacific Ocean’s Nemo Point, the most remote place on earth, 1,681 miles from land.
The set for many of its interiors, including the freighter’s high-tech research lab, is slightly more accessible – Villaviciosa de Odón, 8 miles from central Madrid. A set visit on Wednesday said much about one of Spain’s biggest upcoming TV swings, now building into a franchise. Following, six takeaways:

Many series only move into profit in their second season. That’s most probably not the case of “The Head,” whose first instalment has already hit gold dust, selling to over 90 countries, including HBO Max for the U.S, for producer The Mediapro Studio. Other buyers take in best-of-class players: HBO (Latin America and HBO Asia), Starzplay, Canal Plus (France), Amazon’s Prime Video,...
