In a decision that could inflame parts of Hollywood amid a growing number of states barring medical treatment for transgender youths, a conservative majority of the U.S. Supreme Court upheld on Wednesday a ban in Tennessee on gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors.
The justices, in a 6-3 ruling, found that the 2023 law isn’t discriminatory. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. nodded to the “fierce scientific and policy debates about the safety, efficacy, and propriety of medical treatments in an evolving field” but said questions about the law should be “left to the people, their elected representatives and the democratic process.”
In a fierce dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor said that the law “plainly discriminates on the basis of sex” while underscoring inevitable harm to transgender youth who’re being abandoned by the court to “political whims.”

For the last month, fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 Here) have been waiting to hear news on whether or not the show will continue, following the April 13th finale of the third season. Now, we have the answer – and that is, yes, of course, Yellowjackets is getting a season 4. As Deadline reports, the renewal was a no-brainer because the season 3 finale was “the most-streamed Yellowjackets episode in series history with 3 million global viewers in seven days across linear and streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime.” Parent company Paramount Global also reports that season 3 was the series’ most-watched to date, as well as the most engaged on social media.
Yellowjackets is described as “equal parts survival epic, horror story, and coming-of-age drama.” The story centers on a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness.

I've never met a vampire movie that I didn't like, but not all vampire movies are created equal. In the beginning, vampire myths served as cautionary tales warning people about supernatural, often undead creatures that feast on vital essences, most notably — blood. Folk stories about the creatures have been recorded in cultures across the world, but the term "vampire" gained popularity in Western Europe during the 18th century, when mass hysteria took hold that resulted in corpses being staked through the heart and living people lynched after being accused of vampirism.
This inherent "othering" meant the majority of the ways vampires have been depicted tend to fall into two categories: an allegory for "otherness" (aka strangers to fear) and misunderstood outcasts thrust to the margins by a panicky society. Add this in with the seductive sophistication of vampire literature published in the 19th century,...

As if taking hold of the Kennedy Center and upending Nea grants wasn’t enough, the Trump Administration seems to be coming for Academy Award-winning actress and author Julianne Moore.
In a post on Instagram, Moore revealed that her 2007 children’s book, “Freckleface Strawberry,” was “banned” from schools operated by the Department of Defense. This came as a great “shock” to her considering the message of the novel is one of unity.
“‘Freckleface Strawberry’ is a semi-autobiographical story about a seven year old girl who dislikes her freckles but eventually learns to live with them when she realizes that she is different ‘just like everybody else,'” Moore wrote. “It is a book I wrote for my children and for other kids to remind them that we all struggle, but are united by our humanity and our community.”

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Season 2 of “Yellowjackets,” streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime.
The time to return to the wilderness is almost upon us.
“Yellowjackets” is finally back after a lengthy hiatus (due in part to the dual Hollywood strikes), picking up after a chilling and twisted second season — in which the group resorted to consuming Jackie’s (Ella Purnell) corpse to survive the brutal winter. In the present day, two more Yellowjackets who survived the wilderness were introduced: Lottie (Simone Kessell), now running a wellness compound with a cult-like following of purple-clad devotees, and Van (Lauren Ambrose), who owns a video store.
Before you feast on the third season of “Yellowjackets,” which drops its first two episodes this Friday, here’s a refresher on key moments from Season 2 you won’t want to forget.

Fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 Here) have been patiently waiting to see the bonus episode that was supposed to air sometime between the second and third seasons… but the wait for that is going to be longer than expected, because the decision has been made to hold off on the bonus episode and have Yellowjackets season 3 premiere on February 14th. With that date just a few days away, a clip from the premiere episode has dropped online, and in this clip the character Van (played by Liv Hewson) “retells the story so far,” giving the “previously on Yellowjackets” recap. In 2025, Jonathan Kent, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, will be taking on a new name in the comics: Super Son. This decision was made by DC Comics to prevent any mix-up with James Gunn’s Superman movie, set to release this summer. Instead of being known as Superman or Superman Jr., Jonathan will be introduced as Super Son in the upcoming Secret Six series.
The new comic series, set to debut in April, will feature Jonathan Kent as Super Son, with the first few issues listing him as both Jonathan Kent and Super Son. By the end of the series, he will be fully recognized as Superman’s Son or Super Son, marking a shift in his identity.
In Secret Six, Jon Kent teams up with both heroes and villains, including Dreamer and Deadshot, in a race against time to track down Amanda Waller, who has mysteriously vanished.

We're less than two weeks away from the highly-anticipated premiere of Yellowjackets Season 3, but before we get there, co-showrunner Jonathan Lisco is explaining why one of the series' pivotal characters had to die at the end of last season. If you'll recall, the explosive Season 2 finale saw Lisa (Nicole Maines) with a shotgun trained on Juliette Lewis' character of Natalie during Lottie's ritual in the woods. When Misty (Christina Ricci) tries to save the day by injecting Lisa with phenobarbital, Nat jumped in the way and took the shot instead, sacrificing herself and dying.
Speaking with SFX (via Games Radar) recently, Lisco explained that, like in the real world, actions have consequences, and as such, it would be a disservice to the fans if Yellowjackets' phenomenal cast remained intact without repercussions over the course of the series. "If the show is about trauma and the consequences of what they went through,...

Showtime and Paramount+ have released a new trailer for the third season of supernatural(?) survival drama, Yellowjackets, which is set to premiere with a double episode on February 14th - and it looks like we're in for a Valentine's Day massacre.
This is by far our most gruesome teaser for the series yet, as our beleaguered protagonists finally begin to admit to some of the horrific extremes they went to in order to survive on the island, and a few quick shots make it abundantly clear (just in case it wasn't already) that the girls resorted to cannibalism.
This teaser finds the group dealing with the fallout of the shocking season 2 finale, as it becomes clear that someone is attempting to hunt down and eliminate any of the island's survivors. We also get another look at Hilary Swank's mysterious character, and a glimpse of "Ghost Jackie."

Amanda Waller is on the loose and if DC's younger Superman wants any chance of finding her, he and his friends are going to have to work together with a fan-favorite team. DC's younger generation of heroes went through hell in Absolute Power, and with an unexpected jailbreak, things are about to get a lot worse.

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but I think that the DC Universe's most underrated team, the Secret Six, is coming back. They haven't headlined a series since the New 52, but some tantalizing artwork makes me believe that we're this close to seeing the team return to the Dcu.
Over the last couple of weeks, writer Nicole Maines has been posting some intriguing artwork on Bluesky. Maines began a series of six posts, the first three of which featured new costume designs for Dreamer, Jay Nakamura, and Superman's son Jonathan Kent.
After those three, Maines followed up with new designs for a few other surprising characters, the first being the powerful magic teen, Black Alice. But the final two were the most surprising, as Maines revealed new designs for Suicide Squad veteran Deadshot and the Secret Six's fan-favorite member, Catman.

Yellowjackets: "Eat Your Heart Out" As Paramount+ Announces Season 3 Premiere Date With First Teaser
It might be to rethink any early Valentine's Day plans you might have made.
Showtime and Paramount+ (via FearHQ.com) has announced that the third season of supernatural(?) survival drama Yellowjackets will arrive with a two-episode premiere on February 14th, 2025, and we have a brief teaser promo featuring our first look at some footage.
The quick shots are about as cryptic and creepy as you'd expect, and don't exactly reveal any new season 3 plot details.
In the shocking season 2 finale, Natalie (Juliette Lewis) ended up being killed in a cruel twist of fate when she was stabbed by Misty's (Christina Ricci) lethal dose of phenobarbital. The needle was meant for Lottie's follower Lisa (Nicole Maines), who Natalie had bonded with over the past few episodes and decided to act in a self-sacrificial attempt to save.

While fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 Here) patiently wait to see the bonus episode that’s going to air sometime between the second and third seasons, a short promo has just dropped online to reveal that Yellowjackets season 3 is set to premiere on February 14th! You can check out the promo in the embed above.
Yellowjackets is described as “equal parts survival epic, horror story, and coming-of-age drama.” The story centers on a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. The series will chronicle their descent from a complicated but thriving team to warring, cannibalistic clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.

Warning! Spoilers for Absolute Power: Super Son #1!Batman is a deeply paranoid man, but Robin has always been the one hero he's trusted over almost all others. Batman trained Robin and has no issue taking him onto the field, but there's one hero who trusts Robin even more than Batman, as suggested by Damian Wayne's strange new costume courtesy of Superman Jon Kent.
The one hero who trusts Robin even more than Batman, is, of course, none other than Jon Kent, which is made perfectly clear in a preview for Absolute Power: Super Son #1 by Sina Grace, Nicole Maines, John Timms, and Travis Mercer. After the events of Absolute Power by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, Jon is recovering from being taken over by Amanda Waller's Brainiac Queen, and he reveals just how deeply he trusts Damian - even if he does cast Robin, in a new costume, as his imaginary limo driver.

“Superhero fatigue” is a nebulous concept that for at least a decade now has cropped up whenever a blockbuster comic book movie underperforms — or flops. But in the last two years, as disappointment has become a new normal for DC and even mighty Marvel, so too have claims that superhero fatigue has finally set in.
With two exceptions, every superhero film released since the start of 2023 has disappointed. None have topped $400 million domestic box office or $1 billion globally, with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” coming closest and delivering solid box office totals. Three films failed to reach $100 million domestically, with “Shazam: Fury of the Gods” barely tipping over $50 million.
Then came Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
Critics weren’t kind to the threequel, but those reviews didn’t matter to audiences. It debuted this week to a record-shattering $438 million global box office, the highest...

Absolute Power corrupts absolutely.
That statement almost always holds true in the real world but not often in the world of mainstream superheroes, especially those published by DC Comics. No matter how bleak things get, the denizens of the DC Universe can always look up in the sky to find Superman, their shining beacon of hope.
That is, until Absolute Power, the new DC crossover event from the all-star comics team of writer Mark Waid and artist Dan Mora, shoots Superman through the heart. To make matters worse, the Justice League has disbanded, leaving Earth without its greatest heroes.

Amanda Waller believes the ends justify the means, and she is not above using brutal methods to save the world. Waller's history of personal loss drives her to create the Suicide Squad to protect people the government otherwise wouldn't protect. Waller's ultimate goal is to gain total control over Earth and strip superpowers from its inhabitants, believing it's for the greater good.
There are tons of dangerous and maniacal villains in the DC Universe, but Suicide Squad founder Amanda Waller has always been one of the more complicated ones. Waller isn't seeking domination over Earth just to have it, she truly believes that the ends justify the means. This is why she's created teams such as Task Force X. While her methods are brutal, Waller might just be the hero DC needs.

While her methods are brutal, Waller might just be the hero DC needs.
Readers get to see Waller's ultimate reasoning in Suicide Squad: Dream Team #4 by Nicole Maines and Eddy Barrows.

After ending last month with Lisa Brühlmann’s female coming-of-age tale Blue My Mind (listen), we’ve spent June discussing Danny Boyle’s Sunshine (listen) and Brian Trenchard-Smith’s 1997 sequel Leprechaun 4: In Space (listen).
Now we’re back in YA territory with Brad Michael Elmore‘s trans vampire tale Bit, but the 2019 film is quite a bit more fun than most coming-of-age texts.
Laurel (Nicole Maines) is a recent high school graduate that moves to L.A. to crash on her older brother Mark (James Paxton)’s couch and immediately falls in with a squad of female-identifying vampires. But fang life is complicated by Laurel’s refusal to feed or kill, which leads to friction with the coven’s leader Duke (Diana Hopper), who warns that Laurel’s bloodlust will put them all in danger.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Suicide Squad: Dream Team #4!
DC over-relies on Kryptonite in Superman stories, cheating fans out of a good fight. DC should give Superman proper battles without always resorting to Kryptonite as the easy way out. While Kryptonite should remain, it can provide effective narrative moments like creating a tragic hero in Bizarro.
There's a major Kryptonite problem in Superman's stories, and even DC is ready to call it out. Since it was first introduced in 1943, Kryptonite has been Superman's definitive weakness. It was an effective narrative tool to keep the Man of Steel in check and keep his stories grounded, given how powerful he is. However, now even DC is calling out how there's a bit of an over-reliance on it.
