In the latest surge of live action adaptations that Netflix seems to lead, either in movie or series format, an essentially forgotten anime and manga from the 90s, was not exactly something that was expected, considering that the rest were based on all time favorites like “One Piece” and “Rurouni Kenshin” for example. It turns out, though, that the manga being one of the best selling of all times played a crucial role, and that is how we ended up with a version of “Yu Yu Hakusho”.

Hunter x Hunter, a popular manga series, has never had a video game localized outside of Japan, unlike other major Shonen franchises. The absence of translated Hunter x Hunter games can be attributed to many factors, including the use of platforms that were not released outside of Japan. The manga's unpredictability and wide range of subjects also makes adapting it difficult. Nonetheless, fans are eagerly awaiting news of a Hunter x Hunter game with a potential international release.
Given the vast number of fighting games and arena brawlers based on popular Shonen anime and manga, fans might assume that all the major franchises have seen English-language video game releases, but one major title that has been overlooked up until now could see its first localized game soon: Hunter x Hunter. Shonen is perhaps the best-known category of manga and anime in the West, featuring over-the-top battles and heroic adventures. These...

The Shonen genre reached its zenith when the manga industry expanded its reach to American audiences who lapped up the action-adventure stories about the eternal battle between good and evil. However, bringing the same success to live-action media has proven difficult, making fans wary of their favorite franchises getting Netflix adaptations. Undoubtedly, when the streaming platform announced its plans to revive Yu Yu Hakusho in 2022, it divided the fandom, even if the recent One Piece live-action gave them a little ray of hope.
While there has been a recent surge in supernatural shonen shows, one franchise comes to mind that is not only the pioneer of the subgenre but also serves as the inspiration behind many of them. And that is Yoshihiro Togashi's Yu Yu Hakusho. Both an acclaimed anime series and a popular manga that has sold over 78 million copies worldwide, it is reasonable to believe that director...

The first official teaser trailer for the live-action Netflix adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho, the popular Shonen Jump series by Yoshihiro Togashi, is now available online.
On its official YouTube account, Netflix uploaded an extensive look at its live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho in preparation for its Dec. 14 release. The nearly two-minute trailer covers the original story beats from the manga -- such as Yusuke Urameshi realizing he's been killed in a freak traffic accident and is now a ghost -- while also teasing the new material made for the TV series. Perhaps the greatest alteration to the original manga storyline is the early inclusion of the Toguro brothers, reminiscent of Arlong's early introduction in the live-action One Piece series for Netflix.
