Recently, Deadline reported that their sources said that the latest Disney+ Star Wars Show, “The Acolyte,” would not be getting a second season. Contrary to many “news” articles blaming men, this is likely because the show was not watched as much as it needed to by general audiences.
If a search is done for “The Acolyte,” article after article appears, usually by some “journalist” using their employer’s site as a pulpit to scream about the “toxic, misogynistic, racist, incel, men, ‘fans’ who somehow are the “vocal minority” yet were solely responsible for the show being canceled.
But the data has seemingly pointed to a lack of audience for the show. The general audiences, who aren’t even participating in the discourse online, did not watch the show.
I would even argue that those who did not like the show were still among those watching it and counted to the numbers.

It's a sad day for fans of The Acolyte, the latest Star Wars series to debut on Disney+. Deadline reports that the streamer and Lucasfilm have decided not to move forward with a second season of the series. That's a pretty quick cancelation decision considering that The Acolyte only aired its finale just over a month ago. It's not wholly unexpected, considering the divisive reaction the series garnered, along with its diminishing viewership numbers.
According to Deadline, The Acolyte's two-episode debut brought in around 4.8 million views on its release day, which was the largest series debut of the year on Disney+. That number rose to over 11.1 million views after five days, and continued to hold strong enough to put the show onto the Nielsen Top 10 for the first two weeks of its release, at Number 7 and Number 6, respectively. According to Nielsen, the show was watched for around 488 million minutes viewed during that first week,...

It seems that Disney’s latest “Star Wars” show, “The Acolyte,” will not be getting a second season, according to Deadline.
Deadline reports that “sources” have told them that Disney has decided not to renew the controversial Star Wars show.
“The story of The Acolyte will not continue, with Lucasfilm opting not to proceed with a second season of the Star Wars offshoot starring Amandla Stenberg, sources tell Deadline.”
Why is it not being renewed for more seasons?
While many will decry the “haters” as the reason for its ending, the reality is likely the show’s poor viewership. It was one of the lowest-performing “Star Wars” shows for Disney+.
“The Acoylte” only made Nielson’s top 10 lists for half of the episodes, and only one of those was in the show’s final half. According to Star Wars News Net, the first two episodes, the third episode, and the...

Sin City has officially hit the jackpot. TV Line reports that CSI: Vegas has ended on a high after it was announced that it was cancelled. The unplanned series finale aired on Sunday night, where the audience rose by 16% to deliver a series high of 4.8 million total viewers. The series finale has left the fans with a cliffhanger. CBS cancelled CSI: Vegas despite a solid performance in ratings and viewership. Although it drew over 6 million viewers and ranked 21st in linear Nielson viewership, that was not enough to save them from cancellation. CSI: Vegas was among the lesser-watched CBS dramas, and was one of the first in line for the chopping block.

What can Disney say to cinema owners except “you’re welcome“? After all, the studio is revisiting the island of Montunui, where “Moana” takes place, a lot sooner than movie theaters were expecting.
Earlier this year, the studio announced a surprise sequel to the 2016 animated feature for release on Nov. 27. The follow-up was initially commissioned as a television series for Disney+ but it was retooled into a feature film after executives were reportedly impressed by the footage.
Disney shared the first look at the scenes that wowed those Magic Kingdom creatives during its CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Thursday. In the music-heavy clip, Moana returns to her home island of Montunui and is greeted with a hero’s welcome. The clip offered a taste of one new song, which appears to be about the wayfinding natives eager to be “back to who we’re meant to be.” Although the...

In 2020, during the peak of the entertainment industry’s love affair with streaming, a follow-up to Disney’s animated hit “Moana” was destined to become a television series for Disney+.
But like the movie’s shapeshifting demigod Maui, who traverses the seven seas with the eponymous Polynesian warrior, the project has transformed into something entirely new. In a surprise move, the follow-up to “Moana” has been retooled into a feature film, which is set to debut in theaters on Nov. 27.
It’s a boon for cinemas after last summer’s strikes forced studios to postpone plenty of blockbusters to 2025 and beyond. It also signals Disney’s renewed excitement for the big screen at a time when Hollywood has started to prefer the economics of selling movie tickets to a business model that was all about trying to steal Netflix’s thunder. “Moana 2” joins the studio’s upcoming “Alien” spinoff “Romulus” and 2022’s horror film “Barbarian,...

With its academic interviewees and mini-histories, J.M. Harper’s directorial debut “As We Speak,” about the weaponizing of rap lyrics in the courts, has the trappings of rigor. But not unlike its subject, the documentary’s power, beauty and complexity lie in Harper’s use of rhetoric and lyricism. The film editor of the Emmy-nominated series “Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” has made a willfully creative work that mimics the ways rap can be intimately observational, seemingly confessional even, but is also a feat of artistic expression.
The hip-hop artist and Bronx native Kemba acts as a guide and a character for “As We Speak,” which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. Utilizing Erik Nielson and Andrea Dennis’s book “Rap on Trial: Race, Lyrics and Guilt in America,” the film follows Kemba as he crisscrosses the nation to speak with fellow artists and then leaps the Atlantic to the U.

Since Sept. 3, 2020, Nielsen has been tracking the most watched titles on streaming platforms in the United States and discovered that those three series have made the ranking more than any other titles. Getting spoofed is the ultimate compliment for a movie or genre because it means it was something worth making fun of. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, parodies are an absolute love letter to the source material, especially when it comes to sci-fi films that tend to have persnickety fans.
Horror, rom-coms, and disaster films have all had send-ups, but the sci-fi ones land the best because they come from a place of deep respect. It is impossible to successfully spoof something if there is disdain for it. The best sci-fi parodies were made by fans to show appreciation for the films that make it such a special genre.

Prime Video's Citadel season 1 cost more than $250 to produce, and a new report now sheds light on just how disappointing the show was in terms of its viewership. Executive produced by Joe and Anthony Russo, the directing duo behind mega hits like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Citadel was positioned as Prime Video's next big hit. The spy thriller series, which stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, ultimately debuted to fairly lackluster reviews when it premiered back in April.

As a testament to its success, FBI just crossed a major milestone. Its recently aired Season 5 finale was the series' 100th episode, which is an accomplishment for any series.
Titled, "God Complex," the 100th episode followed the team as they hunted down a twisted, religiously motivated serial killer. Meanwhile, Agent Scola had to make a difficult decision that could have affected his life forever. Here's what happened in the episode and how it affected the series' ensemble cast going into Season 6.

It looks like the "National Treasure" universe wasn't quite ready to expand. Deadline is reporting that the Disney+ spin-off series "National Treasure: Edge of History" has been cancelled after just one season. Guest stars like Harvey Keitel, Justin Bartha, and franchise newbie Catherine Zeta-Jones apparently weren't enough to save the tie-in series, which arrived a full 15 years after the second film in the Nicolas Cage-led franchise.
"National Treasure: Edge of History" followed Jess (Lisette Olivera), a second-generation treasure-keeper and first-generation Mexican-American immigrant who's tasked with continuing her father's legacy. The first season followed a mystery related to a necklace Jess inherited from her father, one that kickstarts an adventure with ties to secret societies, the Spanish Inquisition, the Battle of the Alamo, and much more. The teen-centric show aimed to capture a younger generation of fans, but with the news of its cancellation, one wonders if it came a...

When you think of Jack Reacher, you don't necessarily think of his sense of humor. Author Lee Child envisioned the lead character of his wildly popular books as a bulky, taciturn hero who travels the US after leaving the Army and runs into his fair share of trouble along the way. Not exactly the perfect setup for comedy. But according to Alan Ritchson, star of Prime Video's equally popular "Reacher" series, there's plenty of levity to be found in the world of Jack Reacher.
Tom Cruise's portrayal of the character in two movies didn't quite match the 250-pound, 6-foot-5-inches bruiser of the novels — which in and of itself is kind of funny, but certainly didn't amuse fans of the books. Luckily, Amazon fixed all that when they cast the 6-foot-3-inches, 235-pound Alan Ritchson to lead their show based on Child's books. And it wasn't just the...

Since its premiere last September, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has been proudly branded a hit by Amazon. Prime Video proclaimed that the fantasy series premiere day broke records for the streamer with 25 million viewers tuning in. As of March, Amazon has been calling it their biggest show ever, with over 100 million people worldwide tuning in. But streaming ratings are always nebulous, and a new report is calling the show’s success into question.
In the United States, only 37 percent of viewers who started “The Rings of Power” actually watched all eight episodes to completion, according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter. The number was not shared directly from Amazon, but reportedly came from sources within the organization. Overseas, the completion rate was significantly better, but at 45 percent, less than half of all viewers were compelled to complete Amazon’s Middle-Earth adventure.

I know there are things wrong with my music,” says Ruban Nielson, vocalist and guitarist of psych-rock band Unknown Mortal Orchestra. “My mixing is bad, and my recording is purposefully amateurish sometimes, but I’m trying to concentrate on how to deliver something that feels worth saying.” The New Zealand-Hawaii singer is calling on Zoom from his dimly lit basement studio in Portland, where it’s just begun snowing. For Nielson, perfection has always taken a backseat when it comes to the band’s distinctive DIY sound, which he finds impossible to sum up. “I’ve always made up genre names,” he tells me, offering up suggestions like “Dad-wave” and “trouble-gum”. “Depression funk” is another fan-favourite.
If the latter is accurate, then Umo could now be considered masters in mental health music. The band are on album number five. The latest, V, a double offering, is stuffed full of warm,...

Unknown Mortal Orchestra released their new album V Friday, and with it, the new video for the LP cut “Meshuggah.”
The Morian Mikhail-directed visual gives a candid look into the world of street racing, cannonball runs, and other motorsports, deviating from the laid-back, tropical vibes of the new album itself.
Umo mastermind Ruban Nielson was inspired by “West Coast Aor, classic hits, weirdo pop, and Hawaiian Hapa-haole music” for the band’s new double album, which was written amid the pandemic and family crises saw the singer and his brother...

Unknown Mortal Orchestra return from a five-year gap between albums next month with V, the globe-trotting indie pop project’s first LP since 2018’s Sex & Food and Ic-01 Hanoi.
Umo mastermind Ruban Nielson was inspired by “West Coast Aor, classic hits, weirdo pop, and Hawaiian Hapa-haole music” for the band’s upcoming double album, which was written amid the pandemic and family crises saw the singer and his brother Kody Nielson jumping around from Portland to Hawaii to Palm Springs, where the majority of V’s tracks were conceived and recorded.

Stranger Things officially holds the record as the most-streamed show of 2022, according to new data. First released on Netflix in 2016, the Duffer Brothers' fantasy/ horror show would go on to become one of the streamer's most popular offerings. After an almost three-year wait since the previous season, Stranger Things season 4 was released on Netflix last year, following Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will (Noah Schnapp), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Max (Sadie Sink), Hopper (David Harbour), and the rest of the gang as they face off against Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). The latest season was met with high praise from critics and sets up season 5, the show's last, which doesn't yet have a release date.
According to new streamer data gathered by Nielson (via Variety), Stranger Things is officially the most-streamed show of last year, clocking a staggering 52 billion minutes viewed. NCIS comes in at the number...

Starz International Networks President Superna Kalle is exiting after five years, replaced by Darren Nielson.
Kalle will remain for a two-month transition period before pursuing new opportunities.
As Executive Vice President, International Networks, Nielson will report to Starz President and CEO Jeffrey Hirsch. Overseeing the UK, Latin America and Brazil, Canada and Australia, he will look after recently-rebranded international streamer Lionsgate+, which changed name from Starzplay International last year, while Starz remains the brand name in the U.S.
His promotion comes at a time of change, with Lionsgate in the process of spinning off its studio from Starz.
Kalle has overseen a huge period of change internationally, moving into more territories and commissioning local originals such as a German adaptation of Night in Paradise and several from Spain. While territory rollouts increased and local originals were initially boosted, however, the Gaslit and Dangerous Liaisons streamer is soon to be pulled from Germany,...

This post contains spoilers for "Stranger Things" season 4
"Stranger Things" is huge. To call it a phenomenon is even an understatement. The show helped in large part to usher in the wave of '80s nostalgia that blanketed the pop culture landscape prior to our current love affair with the 1990s. And it's still going strong. Season 4 Vol. 1, which launched in May of 2022 shattered a Nielson streaming record, with the release of Season 4 Vol. 2 crashing Netflix upon its debut.
We can't seem to get enough of the Duffer Brothers' sci-fi throwback, which to this day has far-reaching cultural implications beyond its impressive viewing figures. Season 4 managed to propel none other than Kate Bush back into the charts in multiple countries with its use of her track "Running Up That Hill" during an emotional episode in which the song helps bring Sadie Sink's Max out of a blank-faced trance in the Upside Down.

Caelynn and Dean had a strong connection when they met in Mexico. However, Dean broke up with Caelynn because he was afraid of hurting her. Connie Nielsen is set to star in the psychological thriller “Follow Me” from Catalyst Studios.
The “Gladiator” and “Wonder Woman” star will play the lead role in the film, directed by auteur Siri Rødnes (“A Gambler’s Guide to Dying”). Sam Hunt and Stef Dawson, will co-star opposite Nielsen.
Principal photography will begin in Belgrade, Serbia, on Sept. 25. The film is being produced by Devin Digonno for Catalyst Studios. Holly Levow, Mark Pennell and Paul Kampf are executive producing.
Written by Catalyst’s Mark Pennell, “Follow Me” is described as a “tense” psychological thriller with “all the twists and turns of a classic Hitchcockian thriller, pushing boundaries and blurring the lines between relationships to reveal that money, secrets and deception is a deadly mix.”
Catalyst is the new banner from social entrepreneur Holly Levow, Mark Pennell and Paul Kampf. It was formed to produce compelling, high-quality, and commercial feature films.

Streaming platforms are in a rare position where they don’t necessarily have to report their viewing numbers since they are in control of their content and don’t have to answer to sponsors. While, normally, streaming companies would give vague titles for some content as being “most watched” or “highest trending,” for the first time, Amazon has revealed the rating for their new Prime show, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. This is in celebration of their newest series’ premiere.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the service has announced that 25 million people have watched the show globally on its first-day release. Comparatively, HBO had boasted that the new Game of Thrones series House of the Dragon had become the company’s biggest premiere with nearly 10 million viewers and reaching 10 million for the second episode. People say never to judge a book by its cover, but when it comes to TV shows, sometimes it's just as important not to judge them by their titles. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," for example, doesn't exactly sound like the groundbreaking and celebrated hero's journey that it is. Other shows like "Selfie," "Cougar Town," and the eventually mercifully renamed "Scrotal Recall" (it's called "Lovesick" now) are also way better than their titles would lead one to believe.
The same is true of 2012's short-lived ABC comedy "Don't Trust the B----- in Apartment 23," an outrageous, surreal, fast-paced sitcom starring Krysten Ritter, Dreama Walker, James Van Der Beek, and Eric Andre. Whereas some other titles oversell the wackier aspects of the shows in question, though, "Don't Trust the B" simply can't be tamed or contained by something as simple as a title.

Reps. Jamaal Bowman (D-n.Y.) and Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) on Wednesday introduced the Restoring Artistic Protection (Rap) Act to limit the use of lyrics and “artistic expression” as evidence in criminal cases.
The bill’s introduction follows the arrests and charges against Young Thug and Gunna earlier this year, with prosecutors leaning heavily on the musicians’ lyrics. If passed, the bill would restrict the ability of prosecutors in criminal cases, as well as lawyers in civil cases, to use song lyrics as evidence against musicians. That tactic is disproportionately employed against rappers,...
