Alex c Rivera

Álex C. Rivera is a Spanish director of Murcia origin, especially committed to the social, educational and developmental causes of marginal groups. In 2013, he moved to London where he studied Film Studies at Kingston University of London. In 2016 he created Wake Up Films Production Ltd. with the purpose of creating audiovisual projects on social causes to spread the effort of activists who fight for animal rights, the environment and show situations that are not easily visible to society in general . In his own words "What our senses do not perceive is something that does not exist and the cinema is the perfect tool to make visible what should be and to encourage the audience to action." In the words of his professors in his university years, made in different recommendations and evaluations about his work: "I've never had a director as prolific as Alex in all my years as a professor since 2004 at Kingston University. Alex is a rarity "Abbe Fletcher (Course Leader MA Filmmaking) His first documentary "Unchained" (2016) tells the story of elephants in captivity in different countries in Asia and the United States and the activism of Carol Buckley (Founder of Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, USA) in defense of these animals and their struggle to improve their living conditions. It was supported by organizations such as Elephant Aid International, Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), Animal Defenders International, Oneprotest and Elephant Watch Nepal. This documentary was awarded with the Animal Award at the Cinema Verde Film Festival in Gainesville, Florida, USA, and has been selected for other festivals in the United States and other countries in the world. He later made "Zero Meridian" (2017) on addiction to drugs from the point of view of addicts. Giving them the possibility to really show how they feel, live their addiction and how they relate to the society around them. Selected for the Ibiza Cinefest in the Balearic Islands. Previously he made "Gino" (2015), a short film that tells the story of a man with psychological problems who does justice in defense of battered women and "Little Sweet" (2015), a short film that tells the story of a mother who loses her daughter and confronts it with addictions with hallucinations and paranormal experiences.
