The television world is littered with sitcoms, but a few dare to do something out of the block and adhere to what the fans would like. Modern Family, on the other hand, went all along to portray the show in a documentary, better to say a mockumentary format. No wonder it has such hardcore fans all around the globe!
The show managed to carve out its niche by portraying a diverse family structure in its hilarious episodes, while taking a risk that paid off well. It’s almost as if the showrunners wielded an “infinity gauntlet” of creative choices, each decision adding another layer to its enduring appeal.

When baby Joe Pritchett entered Ed O’Neill and Sofía Vergara’s Jay and Gloria’s lives in Modern Family season 4, viewers were surprised but also intrigued. After all, seeing the duo navigate parenthood as older parents was going to be an interesting plot and character arc for both. However, as the seasons went by, Joe became more of a background prop than a character.
By the time season 6 rolled around, Joe, played by Pierce Wallace, had little personality. So, when season 7 happened, there was a casting change- Jeremy Maguire was brought in as Joe Pritchett. He brought with him a charm that made the character better. In fact, from then on, Joe became quite the scene-stealer sometimes.
This recast happened partly due to production logistics and partly due to creative reasons- after all, Joe needed to have a personality and voice to contribute to the show positively.

Turns out, Modern Family wasn’t always this… modern. From casting chaos to health scares, this behind-the-scenes drama might just rival the sitcom itself.
Ever imagined someone else as Jay Pritchett? Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston was once considered. And Sofia Vergara role made her one of TV’s richest, but there were early concerns about her accent and comedic timing. It got deeper, Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s on-screen adoption arc mirrored tough real-life conversations in the writers’ room. After 11 seasons, they really were like family… though that family almost looked very different.
And the finale was not everyone felt it landed just right. Some crew members expected a bigger goodbye. These lesser-known bits prove it, only true Modern Family fans know these 10 hardcore facts.

Ed O’Neill is sitcom royalty—no intro needed. From grumpy dad vibes in Married… with Children to lovable grandpa energy in Modern Family, he’s been making us laugh for decades. Be it raw vulnerability, overwhelming emotions, or bitter anger, he has shown his mastery over all of those elements and more throughout his career. Hence, it is no wonder that an actor like him got to play alongside the likes of Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie in The Bone Collector.

What makes a TV show truly iconic? Some would say it’s witty writing, others might say the cast and their chemistry. For Modern Family, all of this is true but according to Sofia Vergara, it was Ed O’Neill who held the series together.

Modern Family is undoubtedly the most beloved sitcom of all time, known for its unique mockumentary style comedy and diverse characters. One of the most iconic figures in the show is Gloria Pritchett. Known for her bold personality, striking beauty, and unwavering protectiveness over her family, Gloria’s character is essential to the show’s success and appeal.

While Gloria brought humor and warmth to the series, her parenting style raised concern, especially when it came to her son, Manny. Given her overly possessive and competitive tendencies, many fans believed that if Gloria had a daughter instead of Joe, it would have been more toxic and detrimental.
It certainly would have been worse if Modern Family’s Gloria Pritchett had a girl child

Sitcoms often thrive on the imperfections of their characters, with humor often born from their flaws and conflicts. Modern Family and The Office achieved long, successful runs, but their character arcs followed a similar pattern with the tough characters, softening the very traits that made their characters memorable in the first place.

The sitcom Modern Family has captivated the audience with its quirky characters, sharp humor, and heartwarming moments for 11 years. The long-running 11-season mockumentary show has been a favorite for family dynamics and relationships, but one recurring theme that is rather uncomfortable is the depiction of age-gap relationships.

While Gloria and Jay Pritchett’s relationship was wisely regarded as wholesome and authentic, other storylines, particularly Haley Dunphy’s love life, seemed to lean too heavily on the idea of older partners, ultimately causing discomfort among many viewers.

Jay and Gloria’s relationship was no doubt one of Modern Family‘s most beloved and healthy storylines. Despite the significant age gap between them, their connection though unconventional, provided sweet and genuine moments of affection. Modern Family knew how to stick the landing — well, for most characters. But when it came to Gloria, the writers kind of fumbled the bag. After 11 seasons of being the loud, proud, and effortlessly iconic queen of the Pritchett clan, she deserved a finale that matched her energy. Instead, they cranked her up to unhinged levels, turning her into a borderline caricature.

Sofía Vergara stars as a notorious Colombian drug lord in Netflix limited series Griselda and she knows first-hand how the narcotics trade can ruin the lives of ordinary people. “I lived through that era,” says the native Colombian, for whom Pablo Escobar and the Orejuela brothers were household names. “Everybody at that time—good families, families with money—were part of the business at some point. Modern Family was a sitcom game-changer which embraced a broader concept of family. While the show was a massive hit with fans during its 11 season run, Julie Bowen didn't think she had what it took to land the role of Claire Dunphy.
During an appearance on The Three Questions with Andy Richter Podcast, Bowen recalled how baffled she was when her agents mentioned Modern Family. "I was like, 'I can't tell a joke, I'm not funny, don't give me those three-jokes-a-page kind of things," she said before explain that her team had more faith in her ability than she did. "My managers were always very supportive, like, 'You know what? Helen Hunt isn't funny.' I go, 'What?' They're like, 'Not technically.' [So] I said, 'She just won like five Emmys.' They're like, 'Yes. So she's funny in a different way. She's not three-jokes-a-page funny. And yet she is wildly funny.

Four years after the end of Modern Family on ABC, actor Eric Stonestreet is reflecting on the spinoff that didn't come to be. While Stonestreet was hoping to co-star in a spinoff alongside Jesse Tyler Ferguson which would have followed Cam and Mitch, the series was passed on by the network.
Per Deadline, Stonestreet discussed his desired Modern Family spinoff during an interview with Graham Bensinger. The actor recalled how there were plans to potentially develop a Cam and Mitch spinoff starting with a pilot script Stonestreet felt was really strong. Ultimately, the series was not picked up, a decision that Stonestreet suggested could be due to the perception that he and Ferguson were "the old guys," and thus undeserving of their own spinoff.

But although the show is new, many of its cast members are familiar faces of both the small and big screen. From Josh Peck to Jeremy Maguire and Lyndsy Fonseca, you probably have seen the show's cast before. The one major exception is the main animal, Hooch.

We have the first trailer for Disney's Turner & Hooch TV show. And the Disney+ series has not pulled any punches as the sneak peek comes with a pretty surprising reveal right off the bat. Josh Peck, of Drake & Josh fame, is starring in the lead role and he is playing the son of Detective Scott Turner, Tom Hanks' character from the 1989 movie of the same name. However, as the trailer reveals, his dad is dead, which pretty much rules out any hope for a Hanks cameo, barring a flashback of some kind.
The trailer opens by introducing us to Josh Peck's Turner, who is career-focused and a bit uptight. A large dog is then dropped in his lap that his dad wanted him to have. And, as we come to find later in the footage, his dad passed away. Things quickly get chaotic as the pooch is not exactly well behaved.

Are you ready for a very different Turner & Hooch?
Disney+ on Wednesday unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming original series, Turner & Hooch, based on the 1989 movie of the same name.
Hanks starred in the latter as a detective who took on Hooch, and well, hilarious moments ensued.
Josh Peck plays Scott Turner in the update, and the trailer confirms that Hanks' character is very much dead.
As a result, Scott inherits the beautiful titular canine, and he proves to be more than a handful.
Becca Tobin, Carra Patterson, Brandon Jay McLaren, Anthony Ruivivar, Lyndsy Fonseca, Jeremy Maguire, and Vanessa Lengies.
Five French Mastiffs also appear as Hooch, but will we be able to spot the difference?
Probably not.
The trailer begins with Scott having a string of missed calls from his mother.
His sister, Laura, arrives at his home to drop Hooch off with him.

Reginald VelJohnson will reprise his role as David Sutton in the Turner and Hooch sequel series on Disney+. The upcoming series, which stars Josh Peck as the son of Tom Hanks' character from the original movie, was developed by Burn Notice creator Matt Nix. Though the series will be following a new Turner and a new Hooch, VelJohnson's appearance marks at least one link back to the original movie.
Deadline reports that Reginald VelJohnson will be featured in a recurring role on the Turner & Hooch series, so he won't be limited to a one-off cameo appearance. Playing a cop in the original movie, VelJohnson's David Sutton is now the mayor of the city. Hanks is not currently attached to the project and there are not currently any plans to feature the original Scott Turner at this time. It's unclear if any other actors from the original movie will also be appearing.

Exclusive: Anthony Ruivivar (The Haunting of Hill House), Brandon Jay McLaren (The Twilight Zone), and Jeremy Maguire (Modern Family) are set as series regulars and Becca Tobin (Glee) will recur in Turner & Hooch, Disney+’s reboot of the classic 1989 buddy-cop comedy feature. The TV series, which has a 12-episode order, comes from Matt Nix and 20th TV. The four join previously cast Josh Peck, Lyndsy Fonseca, Carra Patterson and Vanessa Lengies.
Like the movie, the hourlong series centers on Scott Turner (Peck), who now is a U.S. marshal — versus the police detective played by Tom Hanks in the movie. When the ambitious, buttoned-up marshal inherits a big unruly dog, he soon realizes the pet he didn’t want may be the partner he needs.
Ruivivar will play US Marshall Chief James Clark, Scott Turner’s boss. Chief Clark respects Scott, but is very uncomfortable around Scott’s new dog,...

The cast and creator of ABC’s long-running series Modern Family made a stop at the winter TCA press tour to reflect on the final season and on what’s to come in the future. The big question with any successful series is, of course, about potential spinoffs.
Executive producer Steven Levitan didn’t completely dismiss the possibility, “The short answer is right now there are no plans,” he said.
Levitan was joined on stage by the cast which included Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould, Rico Rodriguez, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, Jeremy Maguire and Reid Ewing. Ed O’Neill was absent due to illness.
While many doors have opened for the cast thanks to the show’s success, all expressed interest in revisiting their characters. “Is the spinoff as good as Modern Family? Do we get to have the amazing writers?...

ABC is not going to let its comedy hit Modern Family go quietly as the long-running series enters its 11th and final season.
ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke admitted to Deadline on Monday that the current storyline of Hayley Dunphy, played by Sarah Hyland, and her newborn baby with her on-again-off-again boyfriend Dylan, played by Reid Ewing, seems tailor-made for a spinoff.
Modern Family, which also stars Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez, just launched production on the final season and co-creator/exec producer Steve Levitan said they “plan on finishing strong.”
Burke admitted that Levitan doesn’t yet want to discuss spinoffs. “I get smacked down every time I bring it up to Steve Levitan, so I’m going to stay quiet for a little while,” she said. “They’ve just started production on the final season...
