Piper Perabo says there has been “some discussion” about a sequel to Coyote Ugly.

The actress visited The Hollywood Reporter‘s suite at San Diego Comic-Con to promote her upcoming spy-thriller series Butterfly, alongside castmembers including Daniel Dae Kim, who stars in and executive produces the Prime Video series.

The film, which was released 25 years ago next month, stars Perabo as an aspiring songwriter who moves to New York to pursue her dreams and winds up taking a job at a trendy bar, Coyote Ugly. The cast also includes Adam Garcia, John Goodman, Maria Bello, Izabella Miko, Tyra Banks, Bridget Moynahan and Melanie Lynskey.

THR‘s Tiffany Taylor interviewed Perabo at Comic-Con, noting that there has been talk of a sequel over the years and asked what the status is.

As for what to expect, “You and your pals will play a virtual game that puts your knowledge of each other and yourself to the test. It's What's Inside has a little something for everyone. The Netflix film is one part psychological thriller, one part dark comedy and one part romantic drama. Things get messy -- romantically and fatally. There's a cryptic "peanut butter incident" in the last act of the film that serves as the catalyst for one of the most bizarre movie endings of all time. All in all, It's What's Inside is weird fun. But it was also weird to film.

It’s a special occurrence when a film can pull off something entirely original. We’ve seen so many iterations of so many different stories, that sometimes watching movies can feel a bit like playing the same mad libs-style game over and over. Thankfully people like Greg Jardin exist who can bring something new to the table. Using science as the crux for the swapping of bodies, the story for It’s What’s Inside is able to focus on identity and the complex nature of relationships. And it does so brilliantly. This is easily one of my favorite horror films of the year (Bumbray saw it earlier this year and loved it too) and you’re going to want to check it out when it comes to Netflix.

And you’re probably going to want to see it a couple of times, because the ensemble cast is constantly rotating through characters, leaving the audience to keep up with who’s who — and in who’s body — at what point in the film.

Netflix's horror comedy movie It's What's Inside is a body-swapping extravaganza that involves interconnected romances, Instagram blackmail, and an attempted peanut butter murder. When eight friends from college meet up the night before a wedding, the outcast of the group suggests playing a game with a new machine his tech team's been working on. The game switches the bodies of everyone playing -- and it brings out the darkest desires of each player.

Four of the players are Shelby, Cyrus, Forbes and Brooke. The former two are a couple struggling to reignite their sexual chemistry because of Cyrus' attraction to another friend. Brooke is down for whatever she can take to have a good time, so she's not against an experiment. Forbes, though, is the mysterious master of the game -- holding resentment for an incident back in college.

If there’s one thing movies have taught us it’s you should never, ever be alone in a house. Heck, even with other people. You’re just going to get haunted, or you’re going to get slashed, or at the very least your place will be an absolute mess in the morning and you’ll have to tell your parents what really happened. So go outside, dang it! You’re more likely to star in a romantic comedy if you’re not trapped in an isolated mansion on a dark and gloomy night, making side-eyes at your old college friends who secretly hate you or want you dead.

Then again, if you do stay inside, you might as well watch Greg Jardin’s engrossingly mean-spirited “It’s What’s Inside,” which takes the familiar setup — we sure are alone in this house and nothing bad could possibly happen to us...

Dark secrets, resentment, and jealousy raucously bubble up to the surface in writer/director Greg Jardin’s feature debut, It’s What’s Inside. A pre-wedding reunion amongst former college friends begins with easy revelry as eight gather to reminisce and imbibe in mind-altering substances. Only none know just how mind-bending the night will become when a suitcase emerges to introduce a new party game, one that catapults the group into an identity-bending funhouse of sci-fi comedy and horror. Netflixs Its Whats Inside features a cast of primarily up-and-coming actors who help create the bold and dysfunctional characters who participate in a daring body-swapping game. Since its Sundance Film Festival debut, the buzz has been high for the horror-comedy movie, which holds an impressive 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The expectations were furthered by Its Whats Insides first trailer, which shows a group of friends playing a game that goes horribly wrong.

Due to the movies premise, the eight lead actors in Its Whats Inside end up playing more than one character during the one-and-a-half-hour runtime. Luckily, the actors manage to distinguish each character with different mannerisms and personalities. Though it isnt the only strength, Its Whats Inside succeeds because of the strong performances of the cast of rising stars.

Exclusive: It’s What’s Inside, which lands on Netflix on Oct. 4, marks the first time husbands Colman and Raúl Domingo produced a feature film together.

In an exclusive featurette from Netflix, the couple discussed their work on the thriller — Colman executive producing and Raúl producing for their company Edith Productions, which they started at the beginning of the pandemic — as well as with writer and director Greg Jardin.

“A lot of things that we do are a Trojan horse, like you don’t see it coming,” Colman said of Edith’s projects.

“The principle, I think, also, is entertain you while gutting you,” Raúl added.

“It’s usually put into some package. It could be a beautiful cake, but then you realize that there’s a shiv inside,” Colman said. “Or some glitter. You never know.”
