A pristine modern home becomes the stage for a uniquely American nightmare in Paul Etheredge’s The Other. The film opens on a familiar portrait: Robyn (Olivia Macklin) and Daniel (Dylan McTee) are a well-meaning couple attempting to build a family after years of struggle with infertility.

Their solution is to foster Kathelia (Avangeline Friedlander), an eight-year-old girl rendered mute by a devastating family tragedy. The film quickly establishes an unsettling atmosphere, where the quiet corridors of their house seem to hold as many secrets as the silent child they have welcomed.

What begins as a domestic drama about the challenges of adoption soon curdles into something far more sinister. Film Mode Entertainment has announced the acquisition of Psychopomp, a new horror thriller starring Saw mainstay Shawnee Smith and produced by Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick. The news comes with first look images and a clip previewing a family’s bizarre nightmare.

The horror film is written and directed by Paul Etheredge.

Psychopomp follows “a couple, Robin and Daniel – long struggling with infertility – as they realize their dreams of parenthood by welcoming an orphan, Kathelia, into their home. Characters, including Chris, Zara, and Brooke, come across as one-dimensional and flat, hindering character development and emotional investment. The romantic connection between Chris and Brooke is weak, with awkward and uncomfortable moments rather than genuine chemistry and tension.

The horror will spotlight Macklin and McTee as a couple who foster a “mute orphan” (portrayed by Friedlander). The child, however, has endured a calamitous past that will haunt the family.

“This act of love turns to horror when they find themselves besieged by a terrifying entity intent on destroying this newfound family from within,” reads the film’s official logline.

Macklin is best known for her role as Madre in the television miniseries “The Young Pope.” Additionally, she has starred in “Pretty Smart” and “Christmas Always Finds Its Way.” She’ll be seen next in Richard Lagravense’s “A Family Affair” led by Joey King, Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron.

Pretty Smart is not returning to Netflix for a second season. The streaming service has cancelled the comedy starring Emily Osment, Gregg Sulkin, Olivia Macklin, Cinthya Carmona, and Michael Hsu Rosen, per Deadline. Netflix announced that the third and final season of “Narcos: Mexico” will premiere on Nov. 5 and released some first looks at the episodes.

This third and final season follows the war that breaks out after Felix’s arrest and the new Mexican kingpins who emerge as newly independent cartels navigate political turmoil and escalating violence.

Exclusive: Netflix’s multi-camera comedy series from Jack Dolgen, Doug Mand and Kourtney Kang has rounded out its lead cast with the addition of Olivia Macklin, Michael Hsu Rosen and Cinthya Carmona. The Untitled Dolgen/Mand/Kang Project centers on a snooty, self-proclaimed intellectual (Osment) forced to move in with her carefree sister and her sister’s lovably eccentric friends, played by Sulkin, Hsu, Rosen and Carmona.

Macklin will play Claire, scatterbrained optimist and the world’s worst waitress (although the customers love her). She lives a carefree life, surrounded by her best friends. The network has announced it has canceled Filthy Rich and NeXt, just weeks after their respective debuts on the network.

Variety reported the news first, saying that increased costs due to the Covid-19 pandemic played a huge part in the decision.

Filthy Rich and NeXt are both ending after one season on Fox, Deadline has confirmed.

The network will not renew either series for a second season, though both shows will see out their current runs. Low ratings — both shows are averaging a 0.5/3 in the adults 18-49 demo — and uncertainty are behind the cancellation of the series, which were both originally intended for summer runs.

NeXt has aired three episodes of its 10-episode order, while Filthy Rich has aired five of its 10 episodes.

Created by Tate Taylor, Filthy Rich stars Sex and the City alumna Kim Cattrall as Margaret Monreaux, the matriarch of a mega-rich Southern family famous for creating a wildly successful Christian television network. “Filthy Rich,” which has aired five episodes so far, is currently averaging a 0.5 rating and 3.2 million total viewers per episode, including a week of delayed viewing. “neXt,” which has aired just two of its 10 episodes, is averaging a 0.5 rating and 2.8 million total viewers.

As we roll toward the coronavirus-disrupted fall TV season, Fox has set premiere dates for a pair of drama series. Its Kim Cattrall-fronted Filthy Rich will bow at 9 p.m. Monday, September 21, following the 8 p.m. launch of Spectrum Originals pickup L.A.’s Finest, starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba.

When Fox released its initial fall schedule back in May, Filthy Rich was set for the 9 p.m. Tuesday slot, with Season 1 of L.A.’s Finest as the lead-in for new AI drama neXt on Mondays. That John Slattery-fronted show now is taking the 9 p.m. Tuesday slot, as Fox revealed a week ago.

Created by Tate Taylor, Filthy Rich stars Sex and the City alumna Cattrall as Margaret Monreaux, the matriarch of a mega-rich Southern family famous for creating a wildly successful Christian television network.

It looks like viewers will need to wait much longer for some of the highly-anticipated shows that were set to air during the 2019-20 season.

Deadline is reporting that Fox dramas Filthy Rich and NeXt are now targeting fall launches as the network plans to make sure it has enough content for the 2020-21 TV season.

With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, there's no telling when production on TV shows can start back up, and both of the above shows are already in the can.

Putting the network's marketing muscle behind two new shows that are already completed is a good idea, as opposed to airing reruns.

The part was played by David Denman on the pilot of the series, a family drama from “Ma” filmmaker Tate Taylor “in which wealth, power and religion collide – with outrageously soapy results.” The show is slated to debut at midseason on the broadcast network.

Fox midseason drama Filthy Rich has added Steven Pasquale to its talented cast, according to Deadline.

Pasquale is taking over the role David Denman played in the pilot.

No reason has been given for the recast, but it's normal for shows to recast post-pilot as they prepare to enter production as a full-fledged series.

Fox has ordered its fifth drama series for the 2019-20 season. The network has picked up Filthy Rich, a soapy drama from The Help writer-director Tate Taylor, Imagine Television and 20th Century Fox TV, with Kim Cattrall to star and produce.

Filthy Rich, which is being eyed as a companion for hip-hop family drama Empire, was one of five Fox drama pilots which generated strong buzz consistently throughout the pilot process. Is “Ghosted” coming back?

That’s a question on viewers’ minds as upfronts week comes to a close, with Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS and The CW all having announced their fall programming schedules as of Thursday. ‘Cause some of those slates have holes in them, meaning the statuses of almost half a dozen shows on broadcast television are still up in the air.

Look, we can accept the fact that not every series will be saved like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” — not every show should be. But come on, networks — minus ABC and The CW, who have already killed or renewed everything they’re going to — fans need to hear one way or another whether their favorite programs will be returning this fall, especially for ones that have a crazy-devoted fanbase.
