Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 cast: Meet Captain Glenn’s new and returning crew members
Glenn Shephard
Captain Glenn Shephard will be back on the small screen soon for Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5.

After a delay and a slew of fan speculation, Season 5 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht finally received a premiere date and a trailer.

As Monsters and Critics previously reported, the hit sailing show returns in less than a month with many newbies to bring the drama.

However, in true Below Deck fashion, a couple of alums make up Captain Glenn’s latest crew, but a fan favorite is missing.

Colin MacRae isn’t returning as Chief Engineer after a turbulent Season 4 that fractured his friendships with Gary King and Daisy Kellier.

The three helped revamp the sailing show after a lackluster Season 1, making it a hit along with Captain Glenn. Colin will undoubtedly be missed.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht stars Daisy Kelliher and Gary King are back

Two people needing no introduction are Gary and Daisy,...

Ben Affleck Thriller ‘Hypnotic’ Now Available on Digital at Home
Robert Rodriguez in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014)
After being released in theaters earlier this month, the Robert Rodriguez-directed action thriller Hypnotic has been released on Digital platforms at home today, May 30, 2023.

The Ben Affleck thriller is now available on Digital on all major streaming platforms.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “Robert Rodriguez forgoes his usual playfulness and sense of rebellious fun in favor of a Christopher Nolan-like mind-bender, complete with an overly serious approach and convoluted storytelling.”

In the film, “Determined to find his missing daughter, Austin detective Danny Rourke (Ben Affleck) instead finds himself spiraling down a rabbit hole while investigating a series of reality-bending bank robberies where he will ultimately call into question his most basic assumptions about everything and everyone in his world.

“Aided by Diana Cruz (Alice Braga), an unnervingly gifted psychic, Rourke simultaneously pursues and is pursued by a lethal specter (William Fichtner) – the one man...

Hypnotic review – preposterous tosh from start to finish starring Ben Affleck
Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Mélanie Laurent, Mark Ruffalo, and Dave Franco in Now You See Me (2013)
Affleck is in full frowny mode as a haunted cop on the tail of a criminal mastermind in a thriller that seems to revel in its absurdity

Ever wondered what would happen if someone stole a bunch of head-scratching mystery riffs from Now You See Me, The Adjustment Bureau, Memento and The Matrix, stuck them in a blender with an assortment of late-80s straight-to-video neo-noirs, and then pressed go without closing the lid, thereby causing the resultant volcanic eruption to merrily redecorate the world? Well, wonder no more, because here’s co-writer/director Robert Rodriguez with one he prepared earlier – splattering the cinema screen with all the colours of the daft, courtesy of an A-list star, a B-movie aesthetic, a C-minus musical score, and a D/E audience rating (Hypnotic has already failed to mesmerise in the US). Rejoice, fans of big-screen trash, as Oscar-winner Ben Affleck invites you...

‘Hypnotic’ Review – Robert Rodriguez’s Convoluted Mind-Bender Is Devoid of Thrills
Image
Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez broke out in the ‘90s with pulpy action thrillers and horror hits Desperado and From Dusk Till Dawn. The premise for his latest, Hypnotic, suggests a return to his early works in attitude and scale. Instead, Rodriguez forgoes his usual playfulness and sense of rebellious fun in favor of a Christopher Nolan-like mind-bender, complete with an overly serious approach and convoluted storytelling.

Austin detective Danny Rourke (Ben Affleck) recklessly throws himself into work as a coping mechanism over his missing daughter. Danny completes his latest therapy session that explores the fateful trip to the park where his daughter disappeared, then immediately gets picked up by his partner, Nicks (Jd Pardo), to investigate an anonymous tip for an impending bank robbery. As the heist seems to begin, Danny spies a suspicious man, Dellrayne (William Fichtner), enter the equation.

Danny discovers the man’s bizarre ability to hypnotize people around them,...

‘Hypnotic’ Review: Ben Affleck Navigates the World’s Silliest Conspiracy Like an Absolute Champ
Image
Find someone who looks at you the way Ben Affleck looks at genres that peaked in the ‘90s. His ongoing quest to save the middlebrow movie has seen him try his hand at everything from big budget sports dramas to old school erotic thrillers in recent years as he tries to prove that entertaining adults is still a noble goal.

His latest role, which finds him starring in in Robert Rodriguez’s “Hypnotic,” is a similar throwback to the kind of nonsensically complex, star-driven thrillers that could be instantly forgotten before enjoying a long DVD shelf life in 2002. If TBS launched its own airline and started producing original films designed to be viewed on two hour commuter flights, this would be an ideal first project.

The elevator pitch for “Hypnotic” may well have been, “Take ‘Inception,’ strip it of any serious artistry and nuance, cram as many twists as humanly possible into 90 minutes,...

Review: ‘Hypnotic’ Starring Ben Affleck and Alice Braga
Image
Ben Affleck and Alice Braga star in ‘Hypnotic’ (Photo ©️ 2023 Hypnotic Film Holdings LLC)

Writer/director Robert Rodriguez’s Hypnotic, a film that promises a mind-bending and reality-shifting experience, isn’t edgy enough to be interesting. While the final act provides some thrills, getting there requires you to endure two acts desperately in need of a dose of adrenaline. (“Endure” is not an overstatement in this case.)

Ben Affleck, coming off an outstanding job directing and starring in Air, seems to be just going through the paces as Danny Rourke, a police detective devastated by the loss of his child. Flashbacks reveal his young daughter, Minnie, was abducted from a playground while he was watching her. Danny made the mistake of taking his eyes off his child for just a moment, long enough for a stranger to steal her away.

Although Minnie was never found, a man who claimed not to...

Hypnotic Cast & Character Guide
Image
Along with well-timed twists and gripping mysteries, Robert Rodriguez's Hypnotic features a roster of intriguing characters, played by talented cast members. Conceptualized around the same time Rodriguez was filming Spy Kids 2, Hypnotic has reportedly been in development for nearly two decades. Its lengthy development period and the director's steadfast passion for the project are not surprising, given how its early reviews are lauding it for its meticulously crafted blend of espionage and science fiction.

Hypnotic's espionage-centric narrative revolves around detective Danny Rourke's hunt for a bank robber. Meanwhile, its science fiction kicks when it turns out that the bank robber has the ability to hypnotize people and bend their realities at his will. As Rourke races against time to catch the robber, mysteries of his past begin surfacing, raising the stakes of his mission even higher than he had initially anticipated. Driven by Robert Rodriguez's eye for detail and gripping character beats,...

Hypnotic Review: A Mind-Bending Mystery with a Shotgun Pace
Image
Director Robert Rodriguez and Ben Affleck embark on a mind-bending mystery with more twists than a pretzel. Hypnotic often feels like a greatest hits compilation of sci-fi brain-teasers. The film is akin to a Jenga blocks puzzle of Memento, Inception, Dr. Strange, and Marvel's Jessica Jones with a generous sprinkling of The Adjustment Bureau. First act reveals dive deeper down the rabbit hole than expected. A shotgun pace never pauses long enough to process Wtf moments. This isn't bad, just rushed. That's forgivable as the plot gets progressively better and more interesting.

Austin Pd Detective Daniel Rourke (Affleck) sits troubled in his therapist's (Nikki Dixon) office. He closes his eyes and remembers a tragically haunting moment. An afternoon at the playground with his young daughter Minnie (Ionie Nieves) takes a devastating turn when he looks away briefly and then realizes that Minnie is missing. Her case sparks news headlines when a suspect is found.

Robert Rodriguez in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014)
‘Hypnotic’ Review: Ben Affleck Neo-Noir Is a Snooze That Draws From ‘The Matrix’ and ‘Inception’
Robert Rodriguez in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014)
When it comes to the films we associate him with, a lot has changed since the ‘90s when Robert Rodriguez was among the most exciting indie names in cinema with the inventive likes of “El Mariachi,” “From Dusk Till Dawn” and the best segment of the “Four Rooms” anthology. He now has several “Spy Kids” movies, high-profile music videos and middling efforts like “Alita: Battle Angel” under his belt, though this critic can’t help but think of him as the same scrappy independent auteur of decades past in search of a meaty, inventive story.

Which is why the Ben Affleck-starring “Hypnotic” looked and sounded exciting, at least on paper, signaling a brainy yet accessible neo-noir detective tale with an original Rodriguez spin. Sadly, the film is a tedious and erratically cut caper, whose shape-shifting story feels like an uneven and over-plotted rehash of various recognizable films that we’ve seen before.

Hypnotic: Cast, Story, Release Date, Trailer & Everything We Know
Image
Hypnotic is the upcoming science fiction action thriller from Robert Rodriguez and much has been announced about the cast, story, release date, trailer, and more. Hypnotic follows a detective played by Ben Affleck who goes on a mission to find his missing daughter and solve a string of major thefts. The movie stars a cast of talented actors and the production side is a family affair with Rodriguez's children working on key parts of the music, story, and more. Hypnotic is shaping up to be an inventive, and action-packed spy movie and one of the few original upcoming sci-fi movies not based on IP.

Rodriguez directs his 20th feature film with Hypnotic and his first since the 2020 We Can Be Heroes that premiered on Netflix. Unlike that movie and Rodriguez’s more child-friendly films, Hypnotic is an R-rated thriller, putting it in the same company as Sin City and his debut film El Mariachi.

‘Hypnotic’ Review: For His Next Trick, Robert Rodriguez Will Pull Ben Affleck out of a Funk
Image
Don’t trust anything you see or hear in “Hypnotic,” a noggin-jogging thriller with more twists than Minnie’s tightly braided ponytail. Who’s Minnie? She’s the girl who goes missing in the movie’s opening scene when police detective dad Daniel Rourke (Ben Affleck) looks away for a second. Or does she? Depending how your mind works, there’s a chance Minnie doesn’t even exist. The perp was caught, but Minnie’s body was never found — which is a clue that this wasn’t a typical disappearance.

Your typical popcorn-munching multiplex patron would never suspect how deep this Russian-doll mystery goes. Better to strap in and go along for the ride in the latest example of creativity-within-constraints from resourceful writer-director Robert Rodriguez. Taking a page from “The Matrix,” “Limitless” and “Memento” — and whole chapters from sci-fi trickster Philip K. Dick — this slick mix of special effects and...
