“I wanted a Superman who could be beaten,” Superman writer-director and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn told Rolling Stone before the release of his film. David Corenswet’s Kal-El does take more than his share of punches in the film, but he turns it around in the end — and the movie itself is flying to its own triumphs at the box office. “Those weekday numbers have been incredible,” Gunn says.

As Comic Book Movie junkies, we spend a lot of time combing the backgrounds of scenes in trailers looking for references (or Easter Eggs) to elements that enhance the experience. One caught our eye in an early Superman trailer, because we thought it would tell us a bit about Clark Kent as a person.
In a shot that showed Clark (David Corenswet) in his childhood bedroom, we noticed a poster for the fictional band The Mighty Crab Joys hanging on his wall. That stood out because, during a fighting montage in the debut season of the animated show Creature Commandos, Frankenstein’s monster (David Harbour) wore a t-shirt for this fictional, in-universe band. James Gunn was clearly trying to tell us something.

For a movie about one of American culture’s most famous good guys, James Gunn’s new take on Superman contains more talk than you’d expect about what it means to be punk. And that carries through to the movie’s closing credits, which are accompanied by a deep cut from Iggy Pop and the band Teddybears: “Punkrocker.”
“Punkrocker” first appeared on Teddybears’ 2000 album Rock ‘n’ Roll Highschool, and has been covered frequently in the years since: The version that plays over the Superman end credits is from Teddybears’ 2006 album Soft Machine, featuring Iggy Pop’s vocals.

The song’s selection is already making waves: According to Spotify, as of Thursday, July 10th (still a day before the film’s release), streams of “Punkrocker” have increased 530%.

Macklemore and Migos' Offset teamed for a stomping performance of "Willy Wonka" on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The track appears on Macklemore's new album, Gemini.
The Seattle rapper opened the song over steady trap precision, unleashing a stream of braggadocio that slowly turned into a torrent of double-time rhymes and references to everyone from Lil Boosie and Marshawn Lynch ("Cause I'm just 'bout that action boss") to Barack Obama. As a pair of horn players added a brassy riff to the song, Offset delivered the song's punchy chorus and an equally luxurious verse.

Macklemore unleashed an explosive rendition of "Ain't Gonna Die Tonight" on The Late Late Show With James Corden Wednesday. The track appears on the Seattle rapper's new album, Gemini.
Foxy Shazam vocalist Eric Nally kicked off the performance, belting the anthemic "Ain't Gonna Die Tonight" chorus before Macklemore strolled onstage. Over the song's brassy, bombastic beat, Macklemore tore through clever bars about sneaking into Jay-z concerts, turning down label offers to stay independent and, of course, his wardrobe: "And if I was in Heaven, I'd be the best dressed/ My...
