Comedian Chris Cotton, who co-wrote and co-starred in Comedy Central’s online talk show Every Damn Day, has died. He was 32.

“We’re devastated by the loss of Chris Cotton – a hilarious comedian, a beloved member of the Comedy Central family and a joy to be around,” Comedy Central said in a tweet. “He will be missed.”

A cause of death was not disclosed.

A Philadelphia stand-up comic, Cotton made his national breakthrough with his work for Comedy Central. In July 2018, he was the red carpet host for the network’s Bruce Willis roast; prior to that, he appeared in Carpool Rules, a 2015 web series; and Diwal’oween, a 2017 multi-cultural Halloween-related indie film.

The couple were reportedly high school sweethearts. Philadelphia comedian Chris Cotton has died at the age of 32, Comedy Central announced Wednesday. His cause of death was not immediately made public.

“We’re devastated by the loss of Chris Cotton – a hilarious comedian, a beloved member of the Comedy Central family and a joy to be around,” the network said in a statement. “He will be missed.”

A Philadelphia native, the stand-up hosted some of the network’s digital programming, including Comedy Central’s red carpet coverage of its own roast of Bruce Willis last year, and appeared on Comedy Central’s talk show “Every Damn Day.”

His other on-screen credits include the web comedy series “Carpool Rules” and Shilpa Mankikar’s short film “Diwal’Oween,” as well as an appearance on “Gotham Comedy Live.” In August, Cotton self-published the memoir “What My Dad Did: My Theory of Joke Writing.”

Comedy Central has announced the lineups for its January Stand-Up Month, including four new one-hour specials, and talent for a new digital series of half-hour specials under two different banners.

The January Stand-Up Month will feature new specials from Ron Funches, James Davis (Hood Adjacent with James Davis), Chris Distefano and Roy Wood Jr.. The specials will air consecutive Fridays throughout the month at 11 Pm Et/Pt.

In addition, Comedy Central’s digital series Comedy Central Stand-Up Featuring will premiere January 8 on YouTube, Facebook Watch, Twitter and Instagram. The series will spotlight a new up-and-coming comedian on Tuesday and Thursday each week.

Comedy Central is hoping it’s whipped up the recipe for a daily dose of digital comedy, patterned on the success of its long-running TV mainstay, “The Daily Show.”

The Viacom-owned cable programmer is unveiling a new project called “The Creators Program”: a team of five stand-up comedians, writers and improv performers who will produce a short weekday take on pop culture and entertainment, as well as a weekly scripted workplace comedy — about working at Comedy Central.

The Creators Program crew was picked through an open casting call, and Comedy Central is aiming to launch the first fruits of their labor the last week of May on its YouTube channel (6.3 million subscribers) and Facebook page (6.3 million followers).

“This is Comedy Central’s biggest investment ever in digital and social content,” said Jennifer Danielson, Comedy Central’s senior VP of digital, although she declined to put a dollar figure on the initiative.
