Burning Skin will be produced by Germany’s Weydemann Bros. and Living Pictures Production. It will be Karamizade’s second feature, after 2023 Karlovy Vary selection Empty Nets.

The Les Arcs Film Festival has announced the 18 in development film projects selected for its 16th Les Arcs Coproduction Village, aimed at connecting the upcoming features with coproducers, sales agents, distributors and other financing partners.
The copro meeting will take place within the context of Alpine festival’s industry program running December 14 to 17.
Sixteen of the 18 projects are directed by female filmmakers, with 38% of the features submitted directed by women. Ten are first fiction feature projects, seven are second features and one is by a more established filmmaker.
They include Ukrainian director Anastasiia Solonevych’s debut feature 30 Days Of Summer, about two sisters who reconnect against the backdrop of a military training camp. Solonevych won the Cannes Palme d’Or for Best Short Film in 2023 for As It Was.
German director Sophie Linnenbaum, whose 2022 fantasy drama The Ordinaries enjoyed a buzzy awards and festival run, will participate with second fiction feature The Nose.

US duo Frances McDormand and Joel Coen will be ‘masters’ for the second edition of Ponta Lopud Film Festival, on the island of Lopud near Dubrovnik, Croatia.
McDormand and Coen will give invite-only masterclasses to directors, actors and cinematographers from Southeast Europe, in the festival from June 22 to 27.
Ponta Lopud was started last year by Miro Purivatra, founder and long-time director of Sarajevo Film Festival; and Tilda Grossel Bogdanovic.

Ana Urushadze’s Gerogia-Estonia drama Scary Mother has won the top prize at this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival, which concludes today (Aug 18).
The film took the Heart of Sarajevo for best feature film, which comes with a financial award of €16,000. It stars Nata Murvanidze as a 50-year-old housewife who experiences family struggles as she tries to complete her first novel.
The main competition saw Romanian director Emanuel Pârvu take the Heart of Sarajevo for best director for his film Meda Or The Not So Bright Side Of Things, which comes with €10,000.

A total of 10 emerging directors will be presented at Karlovy Vary.
Future Frames, the European Film Promotion (Efp) showcase of emerging European filmmakers, has unveiled its 2017 selection.
The 10 names will be presented at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (June 30 – July 8).
This year’s cohort of film students and graduates includes Finnish director Kirsikka Saari, who has an Oscar nomination for her 2013 comedy short Do I Have to Take Care of Everything, as well as Damián Vondrášek, who has been nominated for best short film at the national Czech Lion Film Awards for Imprisoned.
The other countries represented include Georgia, Iceland, Latvia, The Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden.
The four-day event, which runs July 2-5, showcases the filmmakers and their work and gives them a chance to meet with attending industry.
The Future Frames initiative is supported by Creative Europe’s Media Programme as well as the film bodies of the ten participating countries.
