TNT has launched a new teaser trailer for the series adaptation of Bong Joon Ho’s ‘Snowpiercer’ alongside a revised launch date of May 17th.

Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centres on the remnants of humanity who inhabit a perpetually moving train, with 1001 cars, that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out in this riveting television adaptation based on the graphic novel series and film from Oscar® Winner Bong Joon Ho (Parasite).

Jennifer Connelly stars alongside Daveed Diggs who plays Andrew Layton, an ex-detective and resident in the lowest class all the way at the back of the train. He is soon recruited by the train’s authorities to track down a killer.

TBS dropped the first footage of its hotly anticipated “Snowpiercer” series during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. The trailer features stars Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs as adversaries in this off-the-rails, post-apocalyptic thriller.

Fans can get a glimpse of just how much of a wreck this bonkers train is in the video above.

The series, which has already been renewed for a second season, is an adaptation of the 2014 Bong Joon-Ho film of the same name starring Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton. Set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, the series centers on humanity’s survivors, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train circling the globe.

The long-in-the-works “Snowpiercer” television series will live to see another day. TBS has announced it is reviving the dropped TNT adaptation of Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 science-fiction action film of the same name. The series stars Jennifer Connelly opposite “Hamilton” and “Blindspotting” breakout Daveed Diggs. In a sign of confidence, TBS has renewed “Snowpiercer” for a second season. The show’s debut run will kickoff next year.

“Snowpiercer” has been in development for four years. The series was originally announced in 2015 with “Sarah Connor Chronicles” creator Josh Friedman attached as showrunner. TNT picked up the pilot in November 2016 but the project got stalled over creative differences between the network and Friedman. The showrunner left the series just as TNT announced in January 2018 it was picking up “Snowpiercer” straight to series. “Orphan Black” co-creator Graeme Manson replaced Friedman, but the hire led to drama as Friedman publicly bashed Manson for taking over without consulting him first.

Turner is shifting its troubled drama “Snowpiercer” from TNT over to sister network TBS and giving it a vote of confidence with an early second-season pickup.

The drama, an adaptation of Bong Joon Ho’s 2014 film, was first picked up to series at the beginning of 2018 will finally debut in the spring of 2020 during the network’s March Madness coverage.

“‘Snowpiercer’ is the perfect show to kick-off TBS’ entry into dramas with intricate storytelling, stunning visuals and first-class acting,” said Brett Weitz, general manager for TBS and TNT. “We believe in the longevity of this series and that audiences will be amazed by the fantastical world that brings to life such relevant social, political and environmental issues.”

Ever since its pickup, “Snowpiercer” has faced numerous behind-the-scenes drama, including both a showrunner and director change.

Kevin Reilly has addressed the showrunner changes behind TNT’s long-gestating sci-fi drama Snowpiercer. The chief creative officer of Turner Entertainment, who is also president of TNT, said the Jennifer Connelly-fronted drama should soon see the light of day and that the network is “just playing with the timing of when it airs.”

He also addressed the showrunner changes at the show, which is produced by ITV-backed Tomorrow Studios, Turner’s Studio T, along with Cj Entertainment. This is after things got ugly between former showrunner Josh Friedman, who was replaced by Orphan Black’s Graeme Mason.

Reilly admitted the situation got “very strange.”

“Quite often when you have a change, it signals that you didn’t really buy into their vision. We had a pilot that was very promising with some creative people behind it, and in that case it was a filmmaker [Friedman] who hadn’t really done TV before,...

Turner boss Kevin Reilly addressed the troubled production of TNT’s upcoming “Snowpiercer” adaptation during the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday.

The adaptation of the Bong Joon Ho’s 2014 film was picked up more than a year ago, but has been derailed by behind scenes the drama, including director and showrunner changes. The upcoming series still does not have a premiere date, nor has it shown any footage.

“We had a pilot that was really promising with some creative people behind it,” Reilly said Monday. “In that case it was a filmmaker who hadn’t really done television before; mounting a series was a different order.”

The “Snowpiercer” series at TNT has found its new director.

James Hawes has boarded the drama series as co-executive producer and director, Variety has learned exclusively, and will oversee reshoots on the show’s pilot.

Hawes joins the show less than two weeks after the pilot’s original director, Scott Derrickson, announced he would not return for the reshoots. Derrickson claimed that the decision was due to the “radically different vision” of the series’ new showrunner, Graeme Manson, from that of original showrunner and series creator Josh Friedman, who left the show in January.

“The 72-page Snowpiercer TV pilot script by @Josh_Friedman is the best I’ve ever read. The feature-length pilot I made from that script may be my best work. The new showrunner has a radically different vision for the show. I am forgoing my option to direct the extreme reshoots,” Derrickson tweeted on June 29.

Scott Derrickson, who directed the Snowpiercer pilot, is refusing to return for reshoots over the TNT series’ vision under its new showrunner Graeme Mason.

One of the most disturbing and engrossing movies of the 2010s, Bong Joon Ho’s Snowpiercer is finding new life as a TV series on TNT.

Back in 2016, TNT ordered a pilot episode based on Joon Ho's film (itself based on Jacques Lobabout's Le Transperceneige) about a constantly moving train holding humanity's last survivors in a frozen apocalypse. Now, as reported by Variety and numerous other outlets, TNT has officially green-lit the project to series.

While we'll have to wait and see how many episodes the series will receive in its first season, TNT's executive vice president of original programming, Sarah Aubrey, had this to say about the new addition to the network's slate:

Director James Wan has done it again and created another horror movie masterpiece with The Conjuring 2. Wan has made one great movie after another, and it seems like he’s perfected the craft of bringing horrific and nightmarish stories to life on the big screen. Wan is one of my favorite directors working in Hollywood today because he has yet to disappoint me.

I was already excited to see The Conjuring 2 before I saw this latest trailer, but this trailer takes the horrific insanity to a terrifying new level! The trailer premiered at WonderCon over the weekend and it scared the shit out of the people who were at the panel.

My take: Ever since I first saw The Conjuring (2013), it’s been one of my favorite horror movies. Inspired by the work of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, it was a smartly written, sharply directed film with good scares, a talented cast playing characters we actually cared about, and which made good use of its period 1970s setting.

After years of delays, the Snowpiercer TV show finally has a release date.

Snowpiercer, TNT’s upcoming hour-long TV show will adapt director Bong Joon-ho's 2013 South Korean dystopian sci-fi film of the same name. The Snowpiercer TV show will be headlined by an Oscar winner in Jennifer Connelly, who is joined by Hamilton stage standout Daveed Diggs. Plus, Doctor Strange helmer Scott Derrickson directed the pilot (sans reshoots). With Snowpiercer’s uniquely stylized dystopian premise, coupled with its overt political themes of class division, there will certainly be much with which to work when it comes to a prospective ongoing television series. TNT has ordered the project to series, although it always seemed likely, as they had backup scripts ready to go when they first ordered the pilot to production.
