What happens when an animation power couple unintentionally creates two of the most beloved, genre-bending titles on Netflix? It’s rare for a couple to each lead their own hit animated projects, but it’s even rarer for both to top Netflix‘s charts at the same time. That’s exactly what’s happened with K-Pop Demon Hunters and Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts. Both are riding high on ratings, despite releasing in different years.
These two genre-defying stories have different tones but also have striking similarities. The parallels are impossible to ignore. And yes, they are created by animation power couple Radford Sechrist and Maggie Kang. They’re lighting up the streaming world with style.

South Korean pop culture continues to find success worldwide. That includes K-dramas, which encompass Korean scripted television of any genre. Romantic series from Korea, in particular, are quite popular globally and have become a growing staple in Netflix's library of acclaimed K-dramas. Even so, there are still plenty of overlooked or underrated K-dramas of this specific variety on the streamer. Case in point: 2022's "Twenty-Five Twenty-One," which was well-received both among South Korean audiences and abroad. Blending nostalgia with a coming-of-age love story, the show presents classic K-drama tropes in a fresh way, making them feel exciting and engaging all over again.
The plot begins with the narrative framing device of disillusioned teenage ballet dancer Kim Min-chae (Choi Myung-bin) finding her mother's high school diary in 2021. Flashing back to 1998, Min-chae's mother Na Hee-do (Kim Tae-ri) is a gifted fencer on her high school team. Because of the Imf financial crisis affecting South Korea,...

Despite its moniker, the term "K-drama" just refers to scripted television programming from South Korea and is not necessarily isolated to the country's weepy melodramas. There are countless comedy K-dramas that are genuinely hilarious, with a sense of humor that goes across cultures and language barriers. Indeed, some recent Korean romantic comedies and workplace sitcoms are among the best K-dramas of all time. An increasing number of Korean comedies are available to international audiences as the broader genre finds enormous success around the world.
Whether it's screwball workplace comedies or mismatched love stories where the laughs are just as potent as the romantic chemistry, there is a comedy K-drama for everyone. The nuances of South Korean culture obviously inform the context and gags, but the slapstick pratfalls and comical reactions are universal in their delivery. At the end of the day, funny is funny, and K-dramas are a testament to...

The Twenty-Five Twenty-One ending is a bittersweet completion of the 16-episode romantic arc between Na Hee-do (Kim Tae-ri) and Baek Yi-jin (Nam Joo-hyuk). One of the best Korean dramas streaming on Netflix, Twenty-Five Twenty-One is a one-season show that premiered in 2022. Set in the present day, Hee-do's daughter Kim Min-chae (Choi Myung-bin) finds her mother's old diary, and it's from this diary that the story is told in flashbacks, jumping back and forth to the present.
In the previous episodes of the K-drama, Hee-do and Yi-jin's lives are shown, first as they begin to fall in love in high school, then through an unseen breakup that pushes the pair far from each other. Both end up living successful lives, and Na Hee-do goes through a few relationships before ending on one that seemingly gave her a daughter, though who Min-Chae's father is, is carefully obstructed from the audience. Is the justice system enough? According to trainee police officer Kim Ji-yong (Nam Joo-hyuk), the answer is a resounding "no," particularly due to the traumatic tragedies of his childhood where the court of law failed him dismally. But Ji-yong decides to take matters into his own hands in the K-drama Vigilante, where he doles out his own perception of justice to those who have evaded it. The creator of the series, Yoo-seok Moon, is known for his projects Oh! My Ghost and The Devil Judge, but takes a more sinister and thriller-like approach to this drama. Based on Kim Kyu-Sam's webtoon series of the same name, Vigilante is a high-stakes, fast-paced narrative that explores the intrinsic limitations of the law and exploits them through the compelling characterization of a junior cop moonlighting as a vigilante on the weekends.

The best K-drama series can charm audiences with compelling conflicts and plot lines, but it all depends on how well the cast fits the characters. The K-dramas, like passionate romances and emotional storylines, risk falling flat when the actors aren't the right fit for the show. Incredible K-drama actors can elevate the show with their portrayals of their characters. From heartbreaking tragedies to action-filled thrillers, masterclass acting in K-dramas is essential to making the series believable and engaging.
K-drama actors and their performances are a major factor in whether a series is a hit or a flop. Not even immaculately planned and executed masterpiece K-dramas can be salvaged if the main cast's acting ability isn't compelling or doesn't quite match what the story needs. Ranging from lighthearted romantic comedies to thrilling crime dramas, shows with skilled actors and remarkable and authentic acting have skyrocketed the popularity of K-dramas.

Whether through bickering or heartfelt support, sibling relationships in K-dramas offer a unique and authentic portrayal of love and family ties.

Gone are the days when K-dramas almost exclusively meant love stories, period pieces and family dramas. Today, South Korea produces some of the most chilling and outrageously violent TV shows you’ll ever see—while also continuing to release the more traditional, wholesome fare that longtime K-drama fans fell in love with years ago.
The diversification of genres in recent years can largely be attributed to the rise of global streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+. In the past, most K-dramas were aired on broadcast TV, which comes with certain guidelines around what can and cannot be shown. By contrast, streamers aren’t bound by such rules around content.
The result? More extreme and graphic K-dramas, with Korean original series on Ott services like Netflix, often featuring plenty of gore and violence, and sometimes some sex and nudity as well. This year saw a host of Korean thrillers and horror series,...

Nam Joo-Hyuk’s first action drama has proved that he is capable of it all. The actor does a fantastic job of being a broody young man with a purpose. On the other hand, the show doesn’t quite bring in anything new to the world of action-thriller K-dramas, which we’ve seen too many of, especially recently. Vigilante is one of those that can be watched in the background, and even if you skip a few seconds, you won’t be missing a lot. There’s no disappointment when it comes to action, and the hand-to-hand combat is impressive, as always. But the problem with this story is that it comes across as unfinished and half-baked. In Vigilante episode 7, Jiyong asks Jo Heon to show him the justice he told him about. What will Jo Heon’s final decision be?

The Disney+ Korean drama Vigilante has ended with 8 episodes, ready for a quick binge-watch. The show, starring Nam Joo-Hyuk and Yoo Ji-Tae in pivotal roles, is an action thriller about a police officer who decides to take justice into his own hands in a country where the law always sides with criminals. Within the first six episodes, Jiyong is recognised as the Vigilante by Jo Heon, the head of the police force tasked with finding the anonymous man, but he gives Jiyong a chance to stop what he’s doing. In episode 6, Jo Heon is severely injured after some thugs try to break into Miryeo’s office, but his life is saved thanks to Jiyong. Will he recover? and what will he do when he wakes up? Additionally, Jiyong has finally decided to team up with Gang-Ok, his fan and supporter. Together, how much of a difference will the two of them really make?...

Nam Joo-Hyuk and Yoo Ji-Tae’s Vigilante is one of those highly anticipated K-dramas with an ensemble cast, but the premise is one that we’ve seen numerous times this year alone. While we wonder if this show will do anything different or new by the end, we can’t help but watch it anyway for the sheer star power. At the end of episode 4 of Vigilante, we learn that Jo Heon already knows Jiyong is the vigilante. Jo Heon tries to persuade Jiyong to take a step back and stop trying to take the law into his own hands. Miryeo and her friend are getting closer to the truth about Sewool, and this might end up becoming problematic for them. What is Jo Heon playing at? Let’s learn in episodes 5 and 6 of Vigilante.

It’s fascinating to see Nam Joo-Hyuk’s facial duality in the show Vigilante. How he goes from an innocent and righteous police officer to a crime-fighting law enforcer, and how he’s able to capture both sides of the character in a fantastic way (or maybe it’s our bias talking). It seems the Korean media loves the subject of law and justice, specifically how it’s a terrible matter in the country. In episodes 1 and 2, we are introduced to Jiyong, a student at the police academy who lost his mother at a young age. As he grew up, not only did he choose to become a police officer, but he also took justice into his own hands, making sure he was able to get revenge on the people who pretty much get away scot-free for their violent crimes, like the person who killed his mother. There’s also...

The Ott platform has recently had some gems like Moving and Worst of Evil, which are highly successful with big names and great plots. Vigilante seems to be in a similar category of “webtoon adaptations” or something to do with law enforcement. Earlier, The Killing Vote had a similar storyline, but with no buzz, the show didn’t do very well. This kind of storyline is quite overdone in the K-drama world, but somehow people continue to make them. Hopefully, the Nam Joo-Hyuk starrer will be entertaining and do well. The first two episodes are nothing new, and if it continues this way, there’ll be nothing exciting about the show except the lead’s performances.

With Nam Joo-Hyuk enlisted in the military, we were under the impression that we’d have to wait two whole years to see him again, but here we have a new TV show with the actor as the leading man. The actor is known for his slice-of-life roles that are both adorable and emotional, and he does a fantastic job of balancing pain and humor that really makes you root for him, whatever the role may demand. The actor’s last show was Twenty-Five Twenty-One, which was widely beloved, even though the ending received a lot of backlash for being too realistic. Vigilante will see the mostly romantic actor in a completely new light, and we’re excited to see him try something new. The show is based on a webtoon of the same name and follows a very “Batman” tale, where a young man sets out to take revenge...

K-dramas have become increasingly popular lately, thanks to their expansion into various genres. For instance, we’ve had a slew of exciting dramas this year, ranging from a soothing romantic love story to a gripping revenge-themed thriller starring Song Hye Kyo (Descendants of the Sun). Furthermore, we’ve also had some surprises, such as Bloodhounds, which cast two unexpected actors in complex characters, which we thought wouldn’t be as easy to pull off.
If K-drama fans are delighted to see these developments in the industry and are eager for more, they have one waiting right around the corner of 2023 in the form of the crime drama Vigilante. The series follows a young man named Kim Ji Yong (Nam Joo Hyuk), a student at the police academy who lost his mother at the hands of a gangster when he was young.

Korean dramas have evolved beyond our expectations over the years, ranging from romance to thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat. Furthermore, they frequently feature exciting action scenes to provide a surprise element, which has now become a standard in every thriller drama. Dramas such as Taxi Driver, Vincenzo, and K2 have particularly taken the concept to the next level, tackling social issues to the extreme.
The upcoming Korean drama Vigilante is one such example, offering a new perspective on a vigilante who fights criminals both under the law and outside the law. Such concepts aren't new, though, as various superhero TV shows like Arrow and films like Batman have been doing them for years, but it's uncommon to see one from the Korean industry. That being said, here's everything we know so far about the new crime thriller K-drama Vigilante, including the plot, cast, trailer, and release date.

Multifaceted Korean film company Acemaker Movieworks will unveil four titles at this year’s Asian Contents & Film Market, which operates alongside the Busan International Film Festival. Action and revenge feature prominently as unifying themes.
The Covid pandemic continues to have a delayed impact on the Korean production and film releasing scenes. Last year’s prolonged theatrical drought meant funds for reinvestment were in short supply and releases postponed. Many of Acemaker’s movies were shot in 2020, but are only now confirming completion and new release dates.

The Japanese occupation was no doubt a terrible time for Korea. The medium of film has portrayed this period often. ”A Violent Prosecutor” director Lee Il-hyeong takes a unique approach for his sophomore feature by telling a modern-day set revenge story rooted very much within the emotional scars left behind by the Occupation.
Synopsis
Pil-joo, a retired soldier of his 80s with dementia, goes in search of the people he believes to be responsible for the death of his family in the past. With 5 names tattooed on the fingers, and pieces of his collapsing memories, Pil-joo tracks down his target and kill them one by one. A young innocent guy In-gyoo unintentionally gets involved in his revenge, and eventually becomes the prime suspect of the murder that Pil-joo committed. To prove his innocence, and to stop this old man’s rush, In-gyoo can’t help but accompanying Pil-joo’s revenge journey.

The finale of "Twenty-Five Twenty-One" is nearly here, and fans are still wondering whether Na Hee-Do (Kim Tae-Ri) and Baek Yi-Jin (Nam Joo-Hyuk) will end up together. The series, which primarily takes place between the years 1998 to 2001, focuses on the pair's relationship as they go from friends to lovers. However, since their love story takes place in the past and we learn about it from Hee-Do's present-day daughter, Kim Min-Chae (who obviously has a different family name than Yi-Jin), fans can't be sure how things will ultimately play out.
There are a couple of theories to help explain how Yi-Jin could still be Min-Chae's father (and Hee-Do's husband), but just when fans were starting to believe Hee-Do and Yi-Jin were definitely endgame, episode 14 of "Twenty-Five Twenty-One" threw a curveball. Netflix's latest Korean romance drama "Twenty-Five Twenty-One" has us hooked already! The series follows Na Hee-Do (Kim Tae-Ri), an 18-year-old high-school fencer, and her budding love story with Baek Yi-Jin (Nam Joo-Hyuk), a diligent 22-year-old college dropout who's struggling amid a sudden financial crisis that bankrupted his formerly ultra-rich family.
The story begins in 2021 as a present-day Hee-Do's teenage daughter, Kim Min-Chae (Choi Myung-bin), learns about her mother's high-school life in 1998 through her old journal. While there's a lot we don't know about the present-day Hee-do, the biggest question on fans' minds is who's Kim Min-Chae's father? Did Hee-Do and Yi-Jin make it throughout the years, or did "the times" pull them apart? Is Baek Yi-Jin still in the picture?! Tell us already!

Remaking highly regarded works is often a difficult, and occasionally a thankless task. It requires a level of staying true to the material it is based on, but nonetheless an original spin, and a narrative which takes the audience to a place it has not been to before. In that regard, “Josee”, the remake of the 2003 Japanese film “Josee, the Tiger and the Fish”, both of which are based on the award-winning short story of the same name, works to a degree, but in a similar fashion to a large portion of remodelled movies, fails to lack the ultimate punch that its predecessor so succinctly offered.
