‘Anatomy of Lies’ Directors Unpack How Former ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Writer Elisabeth Finch’s Lies Affected Her Family, Tease “Tons More” to Story
Image
Vanity Fair writer Evgenia Peretz likes to take her time when reporting out a story. But in March of 2022, when she first met Jennifer Beyer — the then-wife of former Grey’s Anatomy writer Elisabeth Finch, who was later revealed to have fabricated stories about her life — Peretz knew she had something really big to get out.

“I knew that this was going to be a hot story, so it was one of those situations where I felt like I needed to report this very quickly — and there was a lot of reporting that needed to be done,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Jump ahead two months and her story landed as a two-part feature for Vanity Fair that would expose Finch as having conned one of the longest-running writers rooms in television. But the writer and executive producer’s betrayals went beyond the walls of ABC’s beloved hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy,...

Former ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Writer Elisabeth Finch Admits to Having “Lied About So Much”
Image
Former Grey’s Anatomy scribe and co-executive producer Elisabeth Finch is copping to having “lied about so much” on the same day that a docuseries about her Hollywood rise and fall is dropping on Peacock.

In a statement posted to Instagram on Tuesday afternoon, Finch apologized for what she described as multiple falsehoods that affected friends, family and others close to her. Admitting that she had “given no one any reason to believe a word I say,” Finch said, “‘I’m sorry’ feels like the smallest words compared to what I’ve done, yet they are the truest. I trapped myself in the addiction of lies, betraying and traumatizing my closest friends, family and colleagues.”

The writer, whose compelling backstory as an alleged survivor of bone cancer inspired a storyline on the ABC medical procedural but was later thrown into doubt, added, “I’m making amends and expressing my genuine...

Grey’s Writer’s Horrific History of Falsehoods Gets a Full Dissection in Peacock Doc Anatomy of Lies
Image
We knew that the story of disgraced Grey’s Anatomy writer Elisabeth R. Finch was bad. But we had no idea just how horrible it really was until we screened Peacock’s three-episode Anatomy of Lies documentary (now streaming).

Over the course of the three hours, the limited series hits us with one whopper after another, foremost among them being the lie that Finch was treated for chondrosarcoma, the type of cancer that she gave Debbie Allen’s Catherine Fox on ABC’s long-running medical drama. To sell her hard-luck story, Finch — who on Tuesday issued another mea culpa on social media — shaved her head,...

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Veteran Zoanne Clack Named ‘Station 19’ Head Writer
Image
Exclusive: Grey’s Anatomy executive producer Zoanne Clack, MD, Mph, has been named executive producer and head writer of spinoff Station 19. Clack, who has started her new duties as #2 to executive producer/showrunner Krista Vernoff on first-responders drama Station 19, will remain an exec producer on medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, also exec produced/showrun by Vernoff.

On Station 19, Clack is succeeding Kiley Donovan who has stepped down. Donovan also had dual responsibilities across the two Grey’s Anatomy franchise dramas and will continue as co-executive producer on the mothership series.

The change follows a recent upheaval in the Station 19 writers room following an incident involving racial slur use by a racist character in a draft of an outline that exposed long-simmering racial issues on the show and prompted producer Shondaland to act swiftly, using the situation as an opportunity “to reimagine the structure of leadership in the name of...

‘Station 19’ Writers Room Incident Involving Written Racial Slur Sparks Inclusive Workplace Discussion, Leadership Structure Changes
Image
Exclusive Updated: In April 2021, ABC’s first-responders drama Station 19 aired an episode hailed as one of the most powerful reflections of George Floyd’s murder on television. It was written by executive producer/showrunner Krista Vernoff, with contributions from the show’s writing and support staff as well as the cast.

More than a year later, an incident involving the depiction of racism on the page has left the writing team of the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff reeling. According to sources, it had to do with a writer’s recent draft of an outline for an upcoming Season 6 episode that included numerous uses of a racial slur by a racist character. I hear the script was assigned to a white writer, and the word in question was b—-r, a derogatory reference to people from Latino descent.

The outline was met with shock and disbelief when shared with the writers room,...

‘Station 19’: Will Andy & Sullivan Reach a ‘Boiling Point’ in the Winter Finale?
Image
It’s a bittersweet Christmas for Station 19, the first since their firehouse brother Dean Miller (Okieriete Onaodowan) died in a gas line explosion. The episode’s title, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” will mean something different to each character—all at a crossroads, teases executive producer Kiley Donovan. Andy (Jaina Lee Ortiz) does “some soul searching” about her history with her mother and her future with estranged husband Sullivan (Boris Kodjoe). “We’ll reach a boiling point,” Donovan reveals. Vic (Barrett Doss) and her boyfriend Theo (Carlos Miranda) unpack the fact that Dean was in love with Vic. Maya (Danielle Savre) and Carina (Stefania Spampinato) share their excitement about adding a baby to their marriage, while Travis (Jay Hayden) isn’t quite sure how to feel about his boyfriend Emmett’s (Lachlan Buchanan) “grand gesture” gift. Ben (Jason George) bears the heaviest weight, having promised Dean that he...
