'Butterfly' Trailer Finds 'Lost' Star Daniel Dae Kim Taking the Lead as a Maverick Action Hero on Prime Video
Image
“Second chances don’t come twice.” While that may sound like a line from an action parody, the new action thriller series from Prime Video is no laughing, with this explosive new footage transforming a Lost fan-favorite into a bona fide action hero. Prime Video is excelling in the action department of late, largely thanks to the release of the smash-hit series Reacher, which is all set to spawn its own franchise. So, will the streamer’s latest foray into the world of explosions and shootouts continue the trend? See for yourself below...

The series in question is Butterfly. A seemingly gentle name for what looks like a rough-and-ready action spy thriller show. And the Lost star being transformed into the streamer’s latest action hero? None other than acclaimed actor Daniel Dae Kim, who leads the series as a maverick US intelligence agent who suddenly finds himself being hunted...

‘Severance’ stars Tramell Tillman and Zach Cherry are chasing Emmy history as the first Black Best Drama Supporting Actor winner
Image
In 2015, Viola Davis won the Best Drama Actress Emmy for How to Get Away with Murder, becoming the category's first Black winner. That left one acting category that had yet to produce a Black champ: Best Drama Supporting Actor. Ten years later, that remains the case — even the short-form acting categories, which were created in 2016 and consolidated into one in 2024, have awarded Black performers — but that could finally change in September with one of two Severance stars: Tramell Tillman or Zach Cherry.

Tillman and Cherry were among the seven supporting drama players tapped for nominations on Tuesday, alongside costar John Turturro, The White Lotus triumvirate of Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, and Sam Rockwell, and Paradise's president, James Marsden.

Neither Tillman nor Cherry was nominated for the first season in 2022, not surprising for unknown actors on a new show. With Severance leading all comers this year with 27 Emmy nominations, there's...

Every Game In Squid Game Season 3 Ranked
Image
Attention, players: This article contains spoilers for "Squid Game" season 3.

Netflix's "Squid Game" comes to an end with season 3, and the show pulls out all the stops on its bloody path toward the series finale. Not that it ever had any other options, because the show runs on escalating thrills: The games in "Squid Game" season 2 were just as sadistic as anything season 1 had to offer, and individual games -- the elaborate Mingle in particular -- showed just how big the show has become, with set designs that go above and beyond to amaze the viewer.

The high bar set by season 2 left "Squid Game" season 3 with the challenge of doing even better in order to impress the viewing audience, and the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and his organization have done just that. Since this particular round of games is divided over two seasons, "Squid Game" season 3 only features three major games.

Squid Game Season 3 Features A Surprise Cameo From A Beloved Character
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Squid Game" season 3, episode 5 -- "Circle Triangle Square."

In "Squid Game" season 3, episode 4 ("222"), the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) offers his philosophical nemesis Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) an olive branch ... or rather, a very sharp knife. During their clandestine meeting, the game organizer expresses absolute disdain at the fact that Kim Jun-hee's (Jo Yu-ri) baby has been forced to enter the game, and that the majority of the finalist players are more than willing to kill the newborn in order to save their own hides. Luckily, he has a solution: Gi-hun should take the offered blade and kill the other adult players while they're asleep, which would bring the player count under the minimum required to play the finale, forcing the game to an early end.

The opening moments of "Circle Triangle Square" strongly suggest that the Front Man's true intentions are far more nefarious.

Squid Game Season 3 Reveals The Cruelest Special Game Of Them All
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Squid Game" season 3, episode 5, "Circle Triangle Square."

So, that knife the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) offers to Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) in "Squid Game" episode 4, ostensibly to help him and Jun-hee's (Jo Yu-ri) baby -- aka the newly-minted Player 222 -- survive the game? Turns out that the villain's motives might not be as altruistic as he claims.

In episode 5, we discover through flashbacks that the Front Man received a similar gift from the game's creator, Oh Il-nam (O Yeong-su), back when he was a mere player waiting to participate in the final game with a handful of other players. Like Gi-hun, the Front Man embraced the gift. Unlike Gi-hun, however, he used it to kill the other finalists before the last game, thus allowing him to stand on the proverbial podium alone.

Since the games have clearly been going on for quite some time and it's...

One Squid Game Season 3 Episode Makes Gganbu Look Mild In Comparison
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Squid Game" season 3, episode 2, "The Starry Night."

Even by "Squid Game" standards, the Hide and Seek game in "The Starry Night" is a problem for everyone involved. As the fourth official event in the 2024 Squid Game, this cruel contest where the blue player team has to scramble for survival while the red team chases them with knives comes at a key point of the season. The first three games and the armed revolt at the end of "Squid Game" season 2 have culled the majority of the nameless supporting players, and the viewer has spent plenty of time getting to know many of the remaining folks. Since Hide and Seek is designed to kill at least half of the remaining contestants, this inevitably results in a number of absolutely horrifying, gut-wrenching deaths and betrayals. Doesn't all this sound a bit familiar, though? It should: Hide and Seek is a bloody,...

‘Squid Game’ Season 3 Star Park Sung-hoon On How A Career In Theater Prepared Him For The Biggest Role Of His Life
Image
This article contains light spoilers from Squid Game Season 2 that impact the plot of Season 3.

Before starring in Squid Game seasons 2 and 3, actor Park Sung-hoon spent six years on South Korea’s theater circuit, appearing in over 15 shows and musicals.

He tells Deadline that his theater training and experiences prepared him for some aspects of his role in Squid Game as Hyun-ju — in particular, an emotional and revelatory soliloquy that he delivers in the series.

The theater world also brought him into the orbit of fellow actor Park Hae-soo, who starred in the first season of Squid Game as Cho Sang-woo (Player 218) — with whom he shares a special connection offscreen.

“Park Hae-soo is in the same agency that I am in, and we go way back from when we were in theater together,” says Park. “I’ve never been in a series which had this kind of universe before, so...

After taking the world by storm in 2021, the curtain is about to close on Hwang Dong-hyuk’s “Squid Game.”

Where Season 2 premiered over three years after its predecessor, “Squid Game 3” hits Netflix barely six months on the heels of that. Season 2’s characters, stakes, and cliffhanger might be fresh in the minds of many, but it’s worth revisiting details all of “Squid Game” ahead of its final hurrah.

In case you haven’t made the time to re-binge all of Season 1 and 2 (or even if you have!), here’s a refresher on what happened in “Squid Game” and what might be critical to Season 3. While most of the characters from Season 1 are dead, Season 2’s key players are still at large — but in terrible danger unless Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) succeeds in his master plan.

‘Severance’ star Tramell Tillman could make Emmy history as the first Black Best Drama Supporting Actor winner
Image
In 2015, Viola Davis won the Best Drama Actress Emmy for How to Get Away with Murder, becoming the category's first Black winner. That left one acting category that had yet to produce a Black champ: Best Drama Supporting Actor. Ten years later, that remains the case — even the short form acting categories, which were created in 2016 and consolidated into one in 2024, have awarded Black performers — but that could finally change in September with Severance star Tramell Tillman.

Tillman is currently in third place in Gold Derby's Best Drama Supporting Actor odds, trailing Walton Goggins (The White Lotus) and Severance costar John Turturro. Tillman is the only Black performer in the top seven. Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus), Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), Sam Rockwell (The White Lotus), and Patrick Schwarzenegger (The White Lotus) round out the predicted field.

Tillman was not nominated for the first season in 2022, not surprising for an...

Squid Game Season 2 Ending Explained: Who Died, What's Next for Season 2, and More
Image
The bloody competition of Squid Game has taken just about everything from its protagonist, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) — other than his life. During his first foray into the competition, his mother (Kim Young-ok) died. In order for Gi-hun to win the game in Season 1, his friend Cho Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo) had to die. Yet it isn’t until the final scene of Squid Game Season 2 that we see Gi-hun at his absolute lowest. He closes out Episode 7 wailing on the ground, looking into the lifeless eyes of his best friend, Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), who’s just been murdered by Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). To make matters even worse, Gi-hun has no idea that Front Man is actually Young-il, the player who Gi-hun thought was one of his closest allies in the new game.

How Lee Jung-jae and the rest of the Season 2 ‘Squid Game’ squad are submitting for Emmy acting categories
Image
The latest batch of Squid Game contestants is ready to try their luck at the Emmys. Seven actors from the second season of the hit Netflix series are being submitted across four categories, Gold Derby has learned.

Leading the way is star Lee Jung-jae, looking to repeat his Best Drama Actor win from Season 1. Lee, who plays returning champion Seong Gi-hun, aka Player 456, is on the bubble for the 2025 best actor race, sitting at No. 9 in the current Gold Derby odds — the highest position of any of the Squid Game gang.

Lee Byung-hun, another who survived the first season, will be submitted for supporting actor for his role as the Front Man, the show’s big bad. Joining him are the two biggest breakouts of Season 2, Choi Seung-hyun, who plays disgraced rapper Thanos (aka Player 230), and Park Sung-hoon, who plays heroic trans ex-soldier Hyun-ju (Player 120).

Netflix K-Drama Karma(Photo Credit –Netflix)

Netflix has unleashed a storm with Karma, the latest Korean crime thriller that’s grabbing attention for being just the right kind of unhinged. It dropped like a bomb this month, and fans haven’t looked back ever since. Tension, blood, betrayal, it’s a wild carousel that keeps spinning, dragging six strangers into a grim waltz of cause and consequence.

Six Strangers, One Vicious Cycle, and Zero Escape

At the center of the series is a broke man who suddenly sees dollar signs in his father’s life insurance and hatches a dangerous plan. Meanwhile, a woman is cornered by her own worst fears, while a hit-and-run driver finds himself at the mercy of a blackmailer who saw too much. It’s less about who they are and more about the terrible choices that lock them into a shared spiral of destruction.

Karma Season 1 Review: Intersecting Lives in a World of Debt
Image
Karma Season 1 emerges as a Korean thriller reimagined from a well-known webtoon, offering viewers a blend of gritty storytelling and philosophical musings. Under the careful hand of director Lee Il-hyung, the series presents a cast of memorable actors whose performances add unexpected textures to the narrative (one might compare their subtle nuances to brushstrokes on a sprawling urban canvas).

The plot centers on the intertwining of several lives through a murder-for-money scheme, setting off a cascade of events that bind each character in a tight, morally charged knot.

The narrative employs a multi-timeline structure that shifts between a present marred by irreversible consequences and earlier moments that reveal the seeds of ambition, desperation, and regret. This method allows the viewer to witness how actions, often rooted in the lust for quick gain, ripple outward with severe repercussions.

The themes of fate and the inescapable weight of human greed resonate strongly,...

Karma Review — Dark and Twisted Thrill Ride Could Be Netflix’s Hottest Surprise Hit
Image
When the Coen Brothers released Fargo, it was one of the best dark thrillers in recent memory. Few shows or movies are willing to tackle stories with so much death and darkness, yet every once in a while, one breaks through in a big way. Karma, a South Korean drama premiering on Netflix, should be one of those exceptions. Featuring a stellar cast and an ever-shifting plot, Karma delivers on mystery and intrigue from beginning to end. While only six episodes long, it’s among the most satisfying watches of 2025.

‘Karma’ Netflix Review: The Loan Sharks Need To Go
Image
After an unforgettable March thanks to When Life Gives You Tangerines, it’s honestly hard to top that with anything new on Friday. Yet, the K-drama industry is ready with a dark 6-part thriller starring some of the industry’s biggest actors and still failing to deliver anything actually exciting. What I find really interesting is how we went from having some Webtoon/web novels/graphic novels turned into K-dramas, which was fun and exciting, to having a dozen of them come out every month. Are we really going into the quantity-over-quality zone for K-dramas now? I would hope not, but if that is the case, Karma might be a victim of the curse of overdoing it. On average, I might be watching 4 K-dramas a month at the very least, so if you’re new to Dramaworld, then take what I say with a grain of salt because you’re...

The 10 Most Underrated K-Dramas Of All Time
Image
K-dramas, South Korean scripted television of any genre, are gaining in popularity worldwide without showing any signs of slowing down. But while shows like "Squid Game" and the chart-topping "Bloodhounds" are certainly deserving of their place in the spotlight, quite a few K-dramas stand overlooked and under-appreciated in their shadow. While these series might not get the international streaming success or buzz like their more prominent counterparts, they are worthy of being recognized as some of the best K-dramas ever. Like so much television programming that comes out of Korea, there are shows for every genre fan that go by without their time in the global sun.

Whether it's shows on streaming services little known for K-drama content or stories that go against the expected norms, there are a variety of reasons why these series are overlooked. Fortunately, many are still available to international audiences who may have missed them upon their initial debuts.
