Ruby's recent roles include role of Granny Gayle in "For What It's Worth" 2024 feature film BET+(Plus); an upscale, bourgeois Mother in "Trophy Wife" (BET Cable TV and BET+); a blues singer in "Bernie Problems" (Amazon Prime); role of Cindy "A Stone Cold Christmas" (Amazon Prime); a grandmother in a Walmart TV commercial in 2018; and a lead role in "The Baker," a comedy short, is now in production in Maryland.
Prior to pursuing a TV/Film acting career in LA, she performed her own original one-woman show "Ruby Hayes sings Bessie's Blues" directed by Brian Rasmussen at the Whitefire Theater, Sherman Oaks, CA and under the direction of Phyllis Kelley at the NYX Club, Glendale, CA.
Ruby has 25 years live stage experience as a jazz & blues singer performing in thousands of concerts and has headlined shows from East to West Coast USA including performing in the 2009 President Barack Obama Inaugural Ball at the prestigious Willard Hotel. She has entertained diverse audiences in Thailand, Japan and entertained the U.S. Troops in Puerto Rico and Honduras. Ruby sang at the Los Angeles National Cemetery for the 2018 Veteran's Memorial Day Service with Mayor Eric Garcetti, Congressman Ted Liu and many other dignitaries in attendance. Ruby landed a role as a singer on the roster of Jackie "PinkLady" Goldberg's Star Productions Company, CA. She performed in the company's shows such as the 2015 Star Search at the Barnsdall Gallery Hollywood and 2016 Razzle Dazzle Broadway at The Whitefire Theatre, Sherman Oaks, CA. Ruby has opened shows for James Cotton (former harp player for Muddy Waters); the Late Little Milton; the Four Tops; and Cab Calloway III.
Ruby studied Piano with Mrs. Oka at the Pasadena City College; Training and Human Resource Management at Georgetown University, Wash., DC; Business Management at University of the Potomac, Wash., DC; and Miesner Acting Technique with Jessica Morris at Houde School of Acting, Ohio.
Ruby was born and raised in Arkansas to parents, John Robert Hayes and Bettye Jewel Hayes. After graduating from High school, she moved to Washington, DC and continued her education and work life. While performing in top clubs and festivals in the Washington, DC area, at age 21, Ruby met the late great Linda Hopkins (Tony Award winner and Broadway Star) who became her mentor. After spending 12 years acting in TV/Film and recording her second album on BayFront Records in Los Angeles, CA, Ruby returned to the East Coast, Washington, DC area and is continuing to book roles in feature films, short films, and commercials. She enjoys studying metaphysics, meditation, water aerobics, walking, watching documentaries and foreign travel.
