Blue Bloods wrapped up in December, but the finale still feels fresh. Fans are still determining how they feel about the last chapter of the Reagan family as we knew them. The thing is, there's a new show coming, and it'll be here faster than you think.

CBS confirmed plans for a Blue Bloods spinoff titled Boston Bloods in February, and despite only one month having passed, the network has released a promo. It's a brief promo, and only features clips of the character we know, Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), but we have to admit we weren't prepared. CBS is not messing around with this franchise.

Blue Bloods is a CBS institution. The show lasted a whopping 14 seasons on the network, and proved to be one of its steadiest ratings draws. So much so, in fact, that the cast voiced frustration when the show canceled.

Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan and Donnie Wahlberg made it clear they didn't want to call it quits just yet, and each of them expressed an interest in continuing via spinoff or sequel series. Well, one of the actors got their wish. Wahlberg will be heading up Boston Bloods, a spinoff that follows his character as he relocates to the Athens of America.

Blue Bloods may be offer, but the lives of the characters are not. CBS recently announced plans for a spinoff titled Boston Bloods, which will follow Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) as he relocates to the City on a Hill. It's very exciting news, but it was not an easy conclusion to arrive at for the network.

Deadline broke news of the spinoff, and additionally revealed the plans that didn't make the cut. CBS wanted to make sure they put their best foot forward when it came to extending Blue Bloods as a TV brand, so they cycled through different versions of what a spinoff could look like. One of them had a different Reagan, Frank, at the helm.

Danny's father, played by Tom Selleck, was originally pitched as the star of a spinoff series. There are no additional details provided by Deadline, but the notion of Selleck's character taking the reins is an intriguing one,...

Donnie Wahlberg loves Blue Bloods. We know it, he knows it, it's a fact of life. He has been one of the most ardent supporters of the show since day one, and his documentation of the show's final season has been a treat for fans. Albeit, a bittersweet one.

Wahlberg has made it clear that he's going to miss playing Danny Reagan on the long-running police drama. He's going to miss it so much, in fact, that he took time out from his other job to wax poetic on the Reagan character's possible future.
