It’s been 14 years since Portgas D. Ace died in One Piece, and it still tugs at our heartstrings. We think of numerous ways in which he could’ve lived, and Luffy would be spared the trauma. However, no matter what, we can’t change history or Ace’s personality.
Like every character in One Piece, Ace had his flaws. He might have been an incredible friend, brother, and a loyal and protective comrade, but to a fault. He never knew how to quit and pick his fights. Any insult to his loved ones and he will enact revenge. That’s how Akainu got to him.
Why couldn’t the Whitebeard Commander just ignore him and turn back? It puzzles fans to this day, but there is an intriguing reason why, and it’s something that Luffy has learnt early in his life. Ace never received guidance like his brother did,...

Warning: spoilers ahead for Netflix's One Piece and the original anime and manga.
Netflix's live-action One Piece hints at a game-changing twist regarding Luffy's Devil Fruit. The addition of Shanks insisting that the Gum Gum Fruit is worth more than all his other treasure adds depth to the mystery behind Luffy's Devil Fruit in the live-action adaptation. The live-action series can continue dropping hints and clues about the true nature of Luffy's Devil Fruit without contradicting the original manga story.

The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1090, "Kizaru," by Eiichiro Oda, Stephen Paul and Vanessa Satone, available in English from Viz Media.
The news of Garp's capture has reached his hometown, Windmill Village, in Chapter 1089 of One Piece. Naturally, Makino and the other villagers are worried about his well-being, though the mayor assures them that the legendary Marine won't be taken down easily. However, Garp's capture isn't the only thing that shocked the world. An earthquake that is strong enough for the entire world to feel hit, resulting in the worldwide sea level rising by one meter. Consequently, many shores across the globe have vanished, with some low islands even sinking into the seas. Most of all, what used to be the Kingdom of Lulusia has become a massive never-filling hole.
Chapter 1089 also brings a much-awaited update regarding the situation on Egghead. Sentomaru confronts his uncle over the Marines' invasion.

The live-action One Piece series will bring the original manga and anime's East Blue saga to life in spectacular fashion. The live-action One Piece story may be one of the best live-action anime adaptations in years, and fans are confident that their favorite characters like Monkey D. Luffy, Zoro, and Nami will look great. Still, the minor characters shouldn't be left behind in the process. Some of them desperately need a second chance to be more relevant and interesting.
Some of the East Blue saga's weakest characters didn't get a fair chance the first time around, and were simple, shallow, or boring, or all three. That means the live-action One Piece series is these characters' best and last chance to become more impressive and substantial characters who contribute more to the story.
