Ana de Armas Sets the John Wick Universe on Fire in Final Trailer for Spinoff Ballerina
Image
Lionsgate has released the final trailer for its hotly anticipated John Wick spinoff movie Ballerina. Ana de Armas headlines the upcoming spinoff, which takes place concurrently with 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

"When you think of me, you should think of fire," warns de Armas' Eve Macarro at the beginning of the trailer, which sees the young assassin staring at Keanu Reeves' John Wick, who is staring back at her through the scope of his gun. Past marketing for Ballerina has teased the fight sequence between Eve and John that promises to delight longtime fans of the action franchise. However, while the Wick vs. Eve fight is featured yet again, the final trailer is framed around the idea of "fire," with the title assassin shown wielding a flamethrower in one clip and fighting in a burning building in another. Check out the final Ballerina trailer below.

Leigh Whannell’s ‘Wolf Man’ to Begin Streaming on Peacock This Month
Leigh Whannell
Director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man shakes up the werewolf mythos with a new take on the Universal Classic Monster, and it’s heading to Peacock this month.

From Blumhouse and Universal Pictures, Wolf Man begins streaming exclusively on Peacock beginning April 18.

Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) stars as Blake, a husband and father who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes. With his marriage to wife Charlotte (Julia Garner) fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth). But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter.

Of course, there’s also the matter of Blake, who begins a harrowing transformation. Whannell’s reimagining of...

Wolf Man: Early Concept Sketch For Leigh Whannell's Reboot Reveals A More Lupine Creature Design
Image
In the build-up to Wolf Man's release, the design of the titular monster was seemingly unveiled when photos of a guy in a mask at Universal's theme park attraction found their way online.

Though this did turn out to be the basis for the werewolf that attacks our protagonists in Leigh Whannell's movie, the overall look came across a lot better on screen, and Blake (Christopher Abbott) ultimately transforms into a different beast altogether.

Even so, the "Hills Fever" wolfman's final design still proved to be highly divisive, and a lot of fans simply couldn't get on board with a near-hairless creature that looked far more man than wolf.

We've already seen some alternate creature designs from concept artist Constantine Sekeris, who has now taken to Instagram to share another early sketch. This take on the monster actually looks a little like the Wolfman from Monster Squad!

Wolf Man gets a digital release this week, reaches physical media in March
Image
The reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property The Wolf Man from Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell reached theatres last month – and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray wasn’t very impressed with it, giving it a 6/10 review that you can read Here and describing it as “well-acted, but not very scary.” Clearly, he wasn’t the only one who was unimpressed. While The Invisible Man made over $139 million at the global box office, Wolf Man has been crawling toward the $30 million mark. Now, it has been revealed that Wolf Man is set to receive a digital release tomorrow, February 4th, with a physical media release to follow on March 18th.

The leads of this version of Wolf Man are Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, both of whom were in the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene. Abbott is taking on the role of a man whose family...

Wolf Man Concept Art Reveals That Christopher Abbott's Monster Could Have Looked Very Different
Image
One of the biggest talking points among horror fans in the build-up to Wolf Man's release was the design of the titular monster, which was seemingly unveiled when photos of a guy in a mask at Universal's theme park attraction found their way online.

The werewolf that attacks our protagonists in Leigh Whannell's movie actually ended up looking a lot better, and Blake (Christopher Abbott) ultimately transforms into a different beast altogether.

Even so, the "Hills Fever" wolfman's final design still proved to be highly divisive, and a lot of fans simply couldn't get on board with a near-hairless creature that looked far more man than wolf.

Below, you'll find a number of alternate creature designs from concept artist Constantine Sekeris, and it seems there may have been early plans in place to have Blake change into a slightly more lupine-looking werewolf.

Wolf Man Defanged At Domestic Box Office With $10 Million Debut; Mufasa Retains Top Spot
Image
Horror fans were very excited when it was announced that Leigh Whannell had stepped in to replace the departing Derek Cianfrance as director on Universal/Blumhouse's Wolf Man reboot, since the filmmaker had previously delivered his own take on another classic Universal Monster which proved to be a big critical and commercial hit.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Whannell is going to be able to repeat The Invisible Man's success.

Wolf Man arrived in theaters on Friday amid mostly negative reviews (it currently sits at 54% on Rotten Tomatoes), and the movie has now come in well below its already modest opening weekend box office estimates.

The downbeat werewolf flick was on track for a $17M-$21M bow, but only managed to take in $10.6M over three days (analysts believe it'll hit $12M by Monday).

It's worth noting that Wolf Man did have a relatively low production budget of $25 million,...

Wolf Man Looks Set For $17M - $21M Opening Weekend After Landing C- CinemaScore
Image
Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man is now in theaters, and the Universal Monster reboot may be facing an uphill struggle after failing to take a big enough bite out of the box office over the weekend.

We're still waiting on international numbers, but the movie only managed to take in $4.45M on Friday (including Thursday previews) in North America, and is now on track for a $17M-$21M debut. This wouldn't exactly be a disaster for a film with a reported $25 million budget, but audiences really don't seem to be too fussed about this one.

Wolf Man has earned a C- CinemaScore, which is disappointing even for an R-rated horror movie. It's also dropped down to a "rotten" 54% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Again, overseas takings may be a lot better (and that relatively low budget has to be taken into consideration), but as things stand, Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King looks set to claim the No.

Blumhouse and Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man is set to hit theaters later this month, and tickets for the horror reboot are now officially on sale.

To accompany the announcement, we have some new posters, a TV spot and featurette giving us our best look yet at the other werewolf that Christopher Abbott's Blake will change into.

The new spot includes a (very) quick glimpse of the beast, but the featurette spotlights the full creature design via some concept maquettes. The video also features Whannell and the cast discussing this latest take on the classic Universal Monster.

It's entirely possible that what we've seen of the Wolf Man so far will not be the final form, as Blake could transform into a more lupine-looking creature towards the end of the movie.

See it. Fear it. Step into Leigh Whannell’s vision of #WolfManMovie. Only in theaters January 17. https://t.

Jamie Lee Curtis in line to lead Murder, She Wrote
Jamie Lee Curtis
Jamie Lee Curtis is looking likely to take over from the late Angela Lansbury in a new take on Murder, She Wrote. More here.

We’ve known for over a year now that a film version of the beloved 1980s TV series, Murder, She Wrote is heading our way courtesy of the writing team behind 2023’s Dumb Money.

The writers of the film, Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, revealed in September of that year that they were teaming with producer Amy Pascal to work on an adaptation of Murder, She Wrote, the classic 1980s US murder mystery show that made the late Angela Lansbury into a beloved star.

Of course, that announcement came at the very tail-end of the Hollywood writers’ strikes so just how quickly things got up and running, we can only guess, but accoring to Deadline, things are definitely moving. What’s more with none other...

‘Murder, She Wrote’ Movie Eyes Jamie Lee Curtis for Angela Lansbury’s Iconic Role
Image
Jamie Lee Curtis better bust out the doilies and contempo casual trench coats — it seems she’s headed to “Murder, She Wrote.”

Variety has confirmed that Oscar winner Curtis is in early talks to play the iconic Jessica Fletcher, a crime writer turned crack detective, who was at the center of the long-running original TV series that starred Angela Lansbury.

Universal Pictures is putting together an untitled feature film project together around Fletcher, via producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Amy Pascal (all have overall deals on the Donna Langley-run studio lot).

Early concepts around the character and any premise are currently unknown. The script is from Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo.

Representatives for Curtis and Universal had no immediate comment on the matter.

Universal holds a magnifying glass over Jamie Lee Curtis to possibly star in the studio’s Murder, She Wrote movie

Universal is looking to Jamie Lee Curtis to pick up where Angela Lansbury left off for the studio’s Murder, She Wrote movie. There’s no deal yet, but Curtis is the studio’s top choice to play Jessica Fletcher in a film based on the 12-season CBS series.

The script is by Dumb Money scribes Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, and Lord Miller and Amy Pascal are producing it. Plans to scope out a Murder, She Wrote film come at a time when whodunit stories are making a killer comeback. Rian Johnson’s Knives Out Mysteries series is a smash hit with audiences. At the same time, other titles like Netflix’s Enola Holmes, starring Millie Bobby Brown as the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill), and Kenneth Branagh’s revival of Hercule Poirot are great additions to the genre’s offerings.

Jamie Lee Curtis Rumored for Lead Role in 'Murder, She Wrote' Movie

In what is possibly the best news you’ll hear all day, it’s rumored that Jamie Lee Curtis is set to play the lead role in a new Murder, She Wrote film courtesy of Universal Pictures. Curtis will take over for the late Angela Lansbury, who portrayed the character of Jessica Fletcher in the original series that ran on CBS from 1984 to 1996, and in four made-for-tv movies.

Plot details remain thin at this point, but in the series, Lansbury’s character of Fletcher was a retired teacher-turned mystery writer who regularly inserted herself into Cabot Cove police investigations to help solve various murder cases, so we expect the movie to...

No deal yet, but we here she’s looming likely to play the Jessica Fletcher role popularized by Angela Lansbury in the hit series that ran 12 seasons on CBS series.

Script is by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the duo behind the Craig Gillespie-directed drama Dumb Money, about the GameStop short squeeze of 2021. Murder, She Wrote is being produced by Lord Miller and Amy Pascal.

Now, it’s early, but this makes a great deal of sense. Image
We're now just over a month away from the release of The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man reboot, and Universal Pictures/Blumhouse have shared a new TV spot.

Our first look at what was assumed to be the titular Wolf Man via an actor in a costume at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights was met with a lot of backlash, but the most recent trailer appeared to confirm that this will be the creature responsible for the initial attack, leaving Christopher Abbott's Blake to change into a different beast altogether.

This TV spot begins with Blake, Charlotte and their daughter Ginger narrowly escaping an attack from a mysterious creature after an accident leaves their car hanging precariously from a tree. The trio manage to make it to their cabin, but after being bitten by the werewolf, Blake begin to undergo a terrifying transformation.

Wolf Man: Leigh Whannell drew inspiration from The Fly for his monster revival
Lon Chaney Jr. and Evelyn Ankers in The Wolf Man (1941)
There’s a reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property The Wolf Man coming our way from Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell, aiming for a January 17, 2025 theatrical release – and while speaking to Empire, Whannell revealed that he drew inspiration from David Cronenberg’s remake of The Fly when he was crafting his take on this classic werewolf story.

Whannell said, “What The Fly did that a lot of other practical-effects-driven horror movies from that time did not do was bring the tragedy out of these practical effects. It wasn’t a joke in The Fly. It was there to illustrate someone who was dying of an illness. I was like, ‘I’ve got to do that.’ It’s not about being funny or icky or gory. This is about the tragedy of the human body falling apart.“

The leads of this version of Wolf Man are Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner,...

The next classic story Leigh Whannell would like to update: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Image
Back in 2020, director Leigh Whannell brought the world a well-received modern update of the classic Universal property The Invisible Man. On January 17, 2025, Universal will be releasing Whannell’s take on another classic Universal property, Wolf Man. There aren’t any plans in place for Whannell to continue making new versions of the Universal Monsters – but, if he were to given his pick of which character(s) to resurrect next, he has said that he would go with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Robert Louis Stevenson created the characters of Jekyll and Hyde in his 1886 novella Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which depicts the gripping struggle of two opposing personalities — one essentially good, the other evil — for the soul of one man. The story has received many cinematic adaptations over the years, with one being a 26 minute short film that was released in 1913 and came from companies that...
