The untitled Deathstroke/Bane movie has received a promising update from the writer Matthew Orton. Having been initially tasked to pen the project for James Gunn’s Dcu back in September of last year, the writer, notable for his work in Moon Knight, has reportedly submitted the script to Gunn and Safran, according to Umberto Gonzalez (via The Outside Scoop).

Considering the Dcu has a strict clause that ensures no project will head into production until the script meets a certain standard, if this is up Gunn and Safran’s alley, this could very well be the next Major Dcu project.

With the trades reporting that DC Studios is finally fast-tracking a Wonder Woman movie, we're one step closer to seeing Diana Prince back in theaters where she belongs. 

It initially looked like we'd have to wait for the Amazon, with James Gunn and Peter Safran instead prioritising the Themyscira-set Paradise Lost. The TV series hasn't taken shape, though, and DC Studios appears to have listened to fans eager to see DC's A-Listers on screen, not just B-Listers like Booster Gold and Swamp Thing.

Appearing on The Box Office Podcast, The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez revealed that, when it comes to casting Wonder Woman, DC Studios is searching for an actress with a television background, similar to Supergirl star Milly Alcock. She was best known for House of the Dragon before being tapped to play Kara. 

In other words, they're searching for someone who isn't necessarily a household name with several big movies on their IMDb page.

Daisy Ridley will always be known for her role as Rey Skywalker in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but earlier this year, she starred in an action thriller likened to John Wick upon its release, which has been a sensation on streaming. Ridley stars alongside Taz Skylar and Ruth Gemmell in Cleaner, the action vehicle following an ex-soldier-turned-window-cleaner who has to rescue hostages after a gala is hijacked and its attendees fall into major trouble. Cleaner began streaming on Max at the end of last week, and the film wasted no time climbing to the top of streaming charts, sitting at #1 at the time of writing. Cleaner earned a “rotten” 52% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but a slightly kinder 66% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.

Updates have been few and far between since, but a (rumored) logline claimed to reveal the key team members: "The Teen Titans are further apart than ever before… until Damian Wayne recruits Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and the new Kid Flash to join him in a fight against his own grandfather, Ra’s al Ghul."

After a bumpy ride through production, Captain America: Brave New World reached theatres on February 14th – and over the last two months, it has earned about $413 million at the global box office. Now, SuperHeroHype has learned that the film is set to receive a digital release next week, on April 15th, with the 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD release to follow on May 13th.

The film went into production in March of 2023, with filming lasting through June. In December of ’23, another screenwriter was brought onto the project to write new material for reshoots, which seemed to be quite substantial. It was said that the reshoots were primarily done to rework three major action sequences – and this included adding Giancarlo Esposito into the mix as Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society, while also dropping a Serpent Society character that was played by wrestler Seth Rollins.

Somehow, it's already been two years since DC Studios head honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed the roadmap for their newly christened Dcu, announcing a wildly ambitious "Gods And Monsters" first phase comprising 10 projects. Now, as the first major movie from that slate, Gunn's own Superman, gets ready to take flight this July, Gunn and Safran have taken some time to give fans an update on their ever-evolving future plans — including Batman: The Brave And The Bold, a proposed live-action Teen Titans movie, Clayface, and much more besides.

There has been a lot of news from DC Studios in the past several days. Some of it has been great, some of it has been less than great, and some of it is somewhere in the No Man’s Land of interpretation and opinion that lies between the two. Some of it is a bit concerning when it comes to how this universe is coming together. Ideally, this universe will mimic what happens in the comics with standalone stories, crossovers, and huge Crisis style events. We don’t want a carbon copy of the MCU, but they are both based in comic books.

It’s been just over two years since James Gunn and Peter Safran mapped out their initial slate of projects for DC Studios and what would be the newly revamped Dcu, a new interconnected universe of superhero movies and films based on DC characters and kicking off in earnest with Gunn’s “Superman” arriving this summer.

So where do they stand? In a press event last week on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Gunn and Safran held court with journalists about all they had cooking, the stuff that’s moving forward and the stuff that has lost the wind in its sails or has hit a snag. That included everything from details on the studio’s Batman films — both the Dcu film “The Brave and the Bold” and updates on the non-canon “The Batman 2” from Matt Reeves — as well as a potential “Teen Titans” movie and the update...

At the end of January 2023, DC Studios gathered select members of the press and announced plans for a Dcu slate dubbed "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters." Many fans pointed out the similarities to Warner Bros.'s ill-fated 11-movie Dceu slate reveal in 2014 and, unfortunately, some of these Dcu projects aren't moving along as well as hoped.

Talking to press, co-ceo Peter Safran said of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker spin-off Waller, "We’ve taken a couple of cracks at it but still haven’t been able land. Waller has been a bumpy road."

The Authority, meanwhile, is "not the furthest along" according to James Gunn and, subsequently, "hasn't been made much [of] a priority." Safran explained, "It is a very big movie, if you’re going to do it properly. Some of the story elements perhaps that are in Superman and some of the other films we fast-tracked, step a little on the Authority.

According to DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, the age of Gods and Monsters will soon be upon us. Like Marvel Studios’s “phases,” Gods and Monsters provides a roadmap for DC’s film and television initiative. Gunn and Safran shared an outline of their plan in January 2023, though, as we know, everything in Hollywood is subject to change, especially when the project is as vast as Gods and Monsters. According to the duo, they plan to release two live-action films and one animated film annually. In contrast, Max, the HBO-adjacent streaming service, wants two live-action and two animated series annually. However, 2025 is an exception, with Peacemaker Season 2 being the only live-action release this year.

“We’ve unified the brand, greenlit five theatrical films, made three live action-series and producing five animated series. We’ve also acquired and distributed a BAFTA and PGA winning documentary,” Safran said at a press conference on Friday.

In September, the trades revealed that DC Studios had tapped Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton to pen a Deathstroke/Bane team-up movie.

Many have wondered whether it's secretly a Secret Six project, though James Gunn has confirmed on multiple occasions that he has plans for DC's Terminator in the Dcu. What we don't know is who will play the fan-favourite villain, though Gunn likely has big plans for the character.

According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, "[DC Studios] already have someone in mind to play Deathstroke in the Dcu so casting should be not too far [away]."

This is a positive update and one that suggests we'll soon see another major character added to the Dcu. How Gunn casts Slade Wilson will be very interesting, particularly as the character has frequently been portrayed as different ages on the page.

Certain cinematic elements automatically pique my interest in a film. When it comes to Cleaner, the starring role of Daisy Ridley (Star Wars Sequel Trilogy), the direction of Martin Campbell, and a Die Hard-style premise all meet – if not exceed – the minimum requirements to get me to the big screen or, in this case, the comfort of my couch. However, these elements alone don’t mean expectations can’t be adjusted realistically.

‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is MCU’s most recent installment and Sam Wilson’s first solo adventure as Captain America as he faces Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus Ross, who over the course of the movie becomes the Red Hulk.

The film has allegedly faced its share of challenges, including reshoots, plot leaks, and mixed reactions from test screenings. Some reports suggested that test audiences found the political themes unengaging, the action underwhelming, and the romance lacking chemistry.

Captain America: Brave New World went into production in March of 2023, with filming lasting through June. In May, Rollins was spotted on set and appeared to be playing a member of the villainous Serpent Society. But in December of ’23, another screenwriter was brought onto the project to write new material for reshoots, and those reshoots seemed to be quite substantial, lasting from May 2024 through November. We know that the story still involves the Serpent Society; in fact, the reshoots added Giancarlo Esposito into the mix as Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society… but for some reason, Rollins’ character no longer fit into the reworked story.

‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is a highly awaited superhero movie that will see Sam Wilson taking on the mantle of Captain America in his first solo installment. It will be the fourth film in the ‘Captain America’ series, continuing from the TV series ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ (2021).

The film is directed by Julius Onah, who co-wrote the script with Peter Glanz and Matthew Orton. Anthony Mackie stars as Sam Wilson / Captain America, with other actors like Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, and Harrison Ford also starring.

In the movie, Sam Wilson finds himself involved in an international incident going up against several world powers and the Red Hulk. William Hurt had said he was "really excited" to return as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross for the fifth time in Captain America: Brave New World prior to his unexpected death in 2022.

Producer Nate Moore discussed the new Captain America movie and details about the Red Hulk with Entertainment Weekly (via The Direct), and how he spoke with Hurt about returning as Ross, who is now President in the new film.

"He was very excited to come back, to be quite frank. When he passed, it was a surprise. You figure out if it's worth proceeding with the story you have or trying something else."

Hurt played "Thunderbolt" Ross in five MCU movies, starting with The Incredible Hulk in 2008, when he was a General. He returned as Secretary of State Ross eight years later in Captain America: Civil War. He followed that up in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: End Game, and Black Widow.

Following the resounding success of HBO's The Penguin series, new details about the Bane and Deathstroke movie, the next ambitious villains project, have emerged from recent reports.

A new report from Production Bulletin has revealed DC Studios' planned start date for the production of the untitled Bane and Deathstroke film, with a fall 2025 production start in the works. The movie was officially announced in September 2024; however, no information about potential filming dates was available at the time—until now. Filming on the project is now expected to begin almost exactly one year after the initial announcement.

Back in September, we got word that two of the Dark Knight's most formidable foes are set to forces for a new live-action Dcu movie, with a Bane and Deathstroke project officially in development at DC Studios.

Details were few and far between and no director was attached at the time, but Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton was said to be working on the script.

A follow-up report suggested that other characters might also appear, as it wasn't clear whether Bane and Deathstroke "would be the central figures of the project." This led to speculation that it could actually be another supervillain team-up, possibly even a Secret Six movie.

James Gunn never actually commented on the report, but he has now confirmed that plans are in place to introduce Slade Wilson (at least) to the Dcu at some point.

Marvel unveiled the latest trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World” at the first-ever D23 Brazil fan event on Saturday. Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/Captain America, and Danny Ramirez, who portrays Joaquin Torres/Falcon, were there to greet fans before the new trailer was shown.

The film includes Mackie as Sam Wilson, Harrison Ford’s U.S. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Ramirez as the new Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Shira Haas as the Israeli superhero Sabra, Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross and Tim Blake Nelson as the Leader.

Mackie took over the Cap mantle from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, who famously starred in the previous three Captain America movies and the four Avengers films. At the end of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” Steve bids farewell to his fellow superheroes and goes back in time to spend a new life with his beloved Peggy Carter.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in a holding pattern of late. The once all-powerful franchise that dominated the box office for a decade plus to the delight of comic book fans and disdain of cinephiles started experiencing turbulence in 2021 with the mixed response to "Eternals" before finding the ditch a year ago with "The Marvels." When Jonathan Majors, who'd been cast as Kang (aka the franchise's next Thanos), was convicted of assault and harassment, Marvel Studios was forced to find a new way forward.

The MCU hit a throwing save this summer with "Deadpool & Wolverine," an inherited franchise from what is now known as 20th Century Studios. The film didn't push the overall narrative forward, but it made a barge-full of cash and bought them some time as the prepare to take their first step forward post-Majors with "Captain America: Brave New World."

A new trailer has been released for Captain America: Brave New World. The trailer, unveiled at D23 Brasil, reveals the best look yet at Harrison Ford as Red Hulk, teasing the big battle he'll be having with Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson.

Also released was a new poster that further teases the confrontation between the characters. The poster showcases Red Hulk's fist smashing into the iconic shield that was bestowed upon him when he became the new Captain America. Beyond the Red Hulk battle, the trailer showcases other action scenes featuring Captain America along with teasing a major mystery at the heart of the story. The production of Captain America: Brave New World has not gone without its fair share of problems, to put it mildly. The film, which wrapped production in 2023, headed for reshoots after reportedly poor test screenings and saw the story totally overhauled, following the hiring of Matthew Orton, who worked as a writer and consulting producer for Moon Knight. Orton had been hired to write additional material which was set to be filmed in the first half of 2024.

New action figures have been revealed for Captain America: Brave New World. The unveiling comes ahead of the movie's release in theaters in 2025.

At McM Comic Con in London, the Hasbro Marvel team officially showcased new action figures for Captain America: Brave New World. Along with Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson, who has become the new Captain America following the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the figures include Red Hulk and Marvel's Falcon. The figures are available for pre-order now on Hasbro Pulse along with fan channel retailers. Additionally, new Hasbro products for kids (and kids at heart) have been revealed for the Titan Hero series line; these will be hitting store shelves in Winter 2024.
