The evolution of Bel-Air is remarkable. Bel-Air has been renewed for a fourth and final season at Peacock, although there will be one notable change. Back when the reboot debuted, in February 2022, the reimagined and more dramatic take on Will Smith's Fresh Prince of Bel-Air helped establish Peacock as a streaming service and was its most-viewed series at one point. But after having several showrunners at the helm, not to mention numerous twists and cliffhangers, another iteration of Fresh Prince is eying the exits.
Deadline confirms that Bel-Air has been renewed for season 4, which will be the last. The news, which comes almost three months after the season 3 finale, is accompanied by a significant shift. Sources note that season 4 will consist of eight episodes, rather than the usual 10. It's reported that the delay in the renewal occurred after conversations regarding the reboot's budget.

Peacock will return to Bel-Air for one last time.
The NBCUniversal-owned streamer has renewed Bel-Air — a dramatic take on Will Smith’s 1990s NBC comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air — for a fourth and final season. The renewal comes about three months after season three concluded.
The series, which counts Smith among its executive producers, grew out of a YouTube video by Morgan Cooper that reimagined the sitcom as a gritty drama. Peacock ran with the idea and gave the project a two-season order in September 2020; Bel-Air premiered in February 2022.
Season three followed Will (Jabari Banks) and Carlton (Olly Sholotan) becoming closer as Carlton looked to put his life of addiction behind him and rebuild his reputation — but the newfound partnership also revealed fundamental differences in their experiences and worldviews.

Exclusive: Bel-Air, which helped put Peacock on the original series map, will be coming to an end. The modern-day drama reimagining of the popular ‘90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has been picked up for a fourth season, which will be its last. According to sources, the final season will consist of eight episodes, fewer than the 10 episodes in each of the first three seasons.
The renewal comes three months after Bel-Air, produced by Universal Television and Westbrook Studios, released its Season 3 finale on Sept. 5. According to sources, it was preceded by behind-the-scenes budget conversations, which could explain the delay. The most recent Season 3 renewal came ahead of the series’ Season 2 finale.
Peacock stepped up in a major way to land Bel-Air in a very competitive situation when the project was taken out in 2020, handing the drama, based on Morgan Cooper’s viral four-minute spec trailer, a two-season pickup.

It's possible that even more WandaVision spinoffs could be developed for the MCU after Marvel Television's Agatha All Along and the upcoming Vision series. WandaVision not only kicked-off the McU's Phase 4 and the Multiverse Saga, but also marked the first time Marvel Studios had branched out into the television format. WandaVision's huge success paved the way for subsequent MCU Disney+ shows, and led to the development of two spinoffs, but the series may have set up even more exciting spinoff shows.
Agatha All Along premiered in September 2024, catching up with Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness in Westview, New Jersey, while Terry Matalas' upcoming Vision series will bring back Paul Bettany in 2026, returning as White Vision from WandaVision's dramatic finale. Aside from setting up Agatha Harkness and White Vision, WandaVision also teased many more potentially-exciting storylines that deserve to be explored in the McU's future. It would be...

As the summer takes hold, so too does a new season of the Banks family’s story. Bel-Air transports us back to their wealthy Los Angeles enclave, though changes are underway. This reimagining of the classic sitcom still honors the roots but thrusts the characters into fresh situations that are sure to bring both fun in the sun and thought-provoking drama.

Bel-Air season 3 brings more obstacles for the Banks family to navigate. The show crafts engaging storylines but occasionally pushes characters to act out of character. Despite minor flaws, the emotional depth and introspection of Bel-Air make it worth watching.
After its explosive season 2 finale, with Carlton's addiction coming to light and Will's future seemingly secured, Bel-Air season 3 kicks off the summer for the Banks family. Bel-Air may have been inspired by Will Smith's groundbreaking The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but it has firmly established its own distinct identity and characters, regardless of shared names and settings. In the first three episodes, season 3 continues to deliver thought-provoking, enthusiastic, and authentic stories that provide insight into the diverse array of obstacles that people of color run into, regardless of where they come from and who they are.

As Season 3 of “Bel-Air” lands on Peacock on Thursday, star Olly Sholotan reflected on the series’ success and those who initially doubted how well the show would do.
“There’s a lot of weight to a show like this. Even when we were coming into the first season, a lot of people didn’t think it was going to work,” Sholotan told TheWrap. “I think in order to find that, in order to have it work, it’s so important that we have a cast that feels like a family.”
Morgan Cooper’s reimagining of NBC’s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” has carved out its own lane next to the original series. In May 2022, the series was crowned Peacock’s most-watched original after it reached a total of 8 million accounts following its series debut in February 2022. And even with Season 3, faithful fans are still cheering the show on.

Bel-Air reimagines The Fresh Prince with a new cast, darker tone, and deeper character development. Anticipation was high for “Bel-Air” two years ago, the dramatic flip of the beloved classic comedy “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Kansas City native Morgan Cooper’s re-imagining of the pop culture fixture started as a fan film he uploaded to YouTube in 2019 that generated so much buzz that Will Smith himself jumped aboard as an executive producer. And the success of the first season, not to mention glowing reviews of the show’s depiction of class tensions — and changes like fresh takes on Hillary as a culinary influencer and Carlton as a struggling, undercover addict — beget a second season and now a third.
But the latest installment takes a somewhat greater departure from the first two seasons. Instead of taking place during the school year, Season 3 takes over the summer, placing Will (Jabari Banks) and Carlton (Olly Sholotan) in a country club setting that television has typically reserved for young white kids.

Jabari Banks is still a fish out of water in ritzy Los Angeles in the third season trailer for Bel-Air, Peacock’s dramatic take on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 1990s sitcom that starred Will Smith.
“You always told me I was in control of my own destiny,” Banks, who plays Smith’s iconic role in the dramatic reboot, says at one point in the trailer as the street-smart Philadelphia teen continues to grapple with life in steamy, summertime Los Angeles as he bumps into his estranged father, Lou, played by Marlon Wayans.
“I left behind basketball. That was my way out the hood. That was the only good thing in my life and see my son making the same damn mistakes as me and there’s nothing I could do about it,” Will’s frustrated father tells his son as he sits next to Uncle Phil, played by Adrian Holmes.

In Season 3, school’s out for the summer, and Will (Jabari Banks) is doing Bel-Air his way. Being a part of the Banks family has given him a new perspective – it isn’t just about wealth, it means that Will now has options to lean into other things that excite him and has the privilege to dream bigger. As Will makes an exciting pivot, he finds a partner in Carlton (Olly Sholotan), who desperately wants to leave his life of addiction behind and rebuild his damaged reputation. And while the dynamic duo has a lot of exciting wins, working together also reveals fundamental differences in their backgrounds and worldviews. Can a partnership of such extremes work?...

The Drake-Kendrick Lamar showdown will continue — at the 2024 BET Awards.
The rappers will compete in two categories at the June 30 show: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is nominated for “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sza and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is nominated for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”
Drake is the show’s top contender with seven nominations, thanks to his album For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition). Lamar didn’t release an album that was eligible this year. The Canadian rapper’s other nominations include album of the year, best male R&b/pop artist and viewer’s choice for “Rich Baby Daddy.” He’s nominated twice in the video of the year category: “Rich Baby Daddy” and his guest verse on J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” the late 2023 track that reignited his feud with Lamar.

Monica Rambeau's journey from a child to a powerful superhero in the MCU has been a significant evolution. Monica Rambeau's abilities include spectral vision, intangibility, energy absorption, enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, and flight. Monica Rambeau's fate in 2023's The Marvels make her one of the most important superheroes in the McU's Multiverse Saga.
Phase 5's The Marvels marked Monica Rambeau's first feature film appearance as Photon in the MCU, taking inspiration from the powerful superhero from Marvel Comics. Monica Rambeau was initially portrayed by Akira Akbar, though Teyonah Parris debuted as the adult Monica in 2021's WandaVision. After making her first appearance on Disney+, Parris made the move to the big screen to star alongside Brie Larson and Iman Vellani in 2023's The Marvels, making up one-third of the titular team. Despite being a relatively underdeveloped character in the MCU, Monica Rambeau is one of the most important heroes of the Multiverse Saga.

The rocky current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is partly due to its over-extension into too many streaming shows of varying quality — but at the same time, the best of those series have introduced some of the current MCU’s most promising characters. Nia DaCosta survived the roller coaster of making “The Marvels,” but London’s rush hour traffic threatens to make her sick.
It’s late October, weeks from the Nov. 10 release of the $250 million superhero movie, and DaCosta is conducting a Zoom interview from the back seat of a car as it inches toward her home. “I apologize for the motion,” she says.
The setting is apropos for how DaCosta’s life has played out over the past seven years — racing from one project to the next. Marvel Studios had its ups and downs with MCU movies this year. Well, one down and one up, to be precise. ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ was released in February, and despite being promoted as the first real step towards the upcoming crossover event ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ ‘Quantumania’ grossed only $476 million. Although it isn’t the lowest-grossing MCU movie, it is one of the few movies in the franchise that failed to break even during its theatrical run. On the other hand, James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ was released last May to critical and commercial success.

The 23rd BET Awards were given out on Sunday evening, in a five hour-plus (!) ceremony held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
This year’s host-less BET Awards had a lot going on, including a star-studded celebration of 50 years of hip hop (featuring musical medleys curated by DJ and producer Kid Capri); a tribute to the late Tina Turner, led by the legendary (if teleprompter-challenged) Patti Labelle; the recognition of Busta Rhymes with the Lifetime Achievement Award; and performances by nominees Coco Jones, Ice Spice, GloRilla and Latto, plus Doechii, Lil Uzi Vert and Mad Lion.

With 2023's The Marvels, Marvel Studios has the perfect opportunity to correct one major missed opportunity from Avengers: Endgame. Scheduled for release on November 10, 2023, The Marvels will feature Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani in an epic space-faring adventure as Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, find their abilities mysteriously entangled. Forming the McU's first all-female superhero team, the trio will provide Marvel Studios' best chance at recovering from one hugely underwhelming moment in Avengers: Endgame.
In the early days of the MCU, Marvel Studios came under scrutiny for not putting enough attention on their female superheroes, with only one female hero on the original Avengers team: Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow. Male heroes such as Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor saw the most development, while Black Widow was only gifted her...

It wasn't that long ago that Marvel Studios' plan to create a closely interconnected movie and TV universe sounded like poppycock. What if one of the films bombed or nobody tuned in for a particular show? For over a decade, the House of Ideas managed to avoid these roadblocks thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's domination of the box office, coupled with the loose -- and, if we're being honest, almost completely one-sided -- ties between the McU's movies and the live-action series produced under the now-defunct Marvel Television banner. It's why few panicked when ABC's "Inhumans" died on the way back to its home planet or Netflix's "Defenders" shows were casually picked off, slasher-style, in the lead-up to Disney+ launching.
However, now that Marvel has consolidated its movie and TV divisions under one roof, we're beginning to see the drawbacks of this approach. It was often near-impossible to...

Bel-Air has been renewed for season 3, making history at Peacock. Leading up to its final episode on April 27, Bel-Air season 2 continues its dramatic take on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but it has changed things from its first installment. Rather than center conflict, the fictional character of Will Smith (Jabari Banks) is at peace with his relatives and his new life of wealth. That shift has allowed some tension to shift over to the show's other relationships, deepening the relationships and the character dynamics.
That will continue for the foreseeable future, as Peacock has announced that it has renewed Bel-Air for a history-making season 3.
Bel-Air's renewal is significant in many ways, as it comes just weeks after the premiere of the show's sophomore season. It's also the first scripted series to get a season 3 confirmation at Peacock. Peacock says that Bel-Air is its most-watched season 2 so far, and it...

Jones, and Simone Joy Jones. Tatyana Ali, who played the original Ashley Banks from The Fresh Prince sitcom, recurs on the reboot.
Set in modern-day America, the story follows young Will Smith’s (Banks) complicated journey to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. When a couple of guys (who were up to no good) started making trouble in his West Philadelphia neighborhood, Will is sent to stay with his...
