Bel-Air Season 4 Updates & Renewal (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Bel-Air has grown to be one of the most popular shows on Peacock. It is a reboot of the 1990s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which in turn is a fictional retelling of actor Will Smith’s teenage years.

The comedy series follows Will’s journey from West Philadelphia to the luxurious neighborhood of Bel-Air. The series finished airing its third season in September 2024, and ever since, fans have been awaiting updates on a potential fourth season. So, is Bel-Air Season 4 happening? Let’s find out.

Will there be Bel-Air Season 4?

Bel-Air is returning for a fourth season. Peacock officially announced the renewal on December 3rd, 2024; however, the streamer also revealed that season 4 would be the last for the series. ‘Bel-Air’ Will Return for a Fourth & Final Season on Peacock
Image
Fans of Peacock's Bel-Air have a reason to celebrate and more today. The series, which offered a unique dramatic redo of the popular sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, will be back for a fourth season, but it comes with the announcement that it will be its last...and it will have a lower than usual episode count. So, alongside the celebrations also comes some bad news, sadly.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Peacock Premium has renewed Bel-Air for a fourth and final season that will consist of eight episodes, down from the typical ten episodes of previous seasons. The news of the renewal decision arrives three months after the Season 3 finale was released on the streaming service on Sept. 5. An exact reason for the decision to end the show with Season 4 wasn't given, but some reports say that budgetary reasons could be a factor, which is why the renewal news came later than usual.

Peacock’s Bel-Air is coming to an end with Season 4
Image
Peacock’s Bel-Air is doing “The Carlton” again after renewing the fan-favorite drama for a fourth and final season. Bel-Air is a contemporary reimagining of the beloved ’90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, starring a young Will Smith as a Philadelphia import learning to navigate the lap of luxury in Los Angeles, California. According to sources, Bel-Air Season 4 has eight episodes to end the series.

The evolution of Bel-Air is remarkable. The series comes from Morgan Cooper’s four-minute viral short, which presents a more grounded and grittier take on the characters and premise of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Bel-Air helped put Peacock’s name in the spotlight as one of the streamer’s most successful original series.

Set in the modern-day, Bel-Air is a dramatic reimagining of the Fresh Prince concept. The serialized, one-hour presentation follows “Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to...

Bel-Air's Future on Peacock Gets Both Good and Bad News
Image
Now, this is a story all about how the future of Bel-Air got flipped, turned upside-down. The series, which served as a more dramatic reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, is not going to have as long of a run as the show it's based on, which lasted six seasons.

Per Deadline, it has been revealed that Bel-Air has been renewed for Season 4. The update on the show's future comes three months after the third season concluded its run on Peacock, and as there were concerns about a cancelation, it should come as good news for fans to know the series will continue. However, the reveal comes with some bad news, as it's also being reported that Season 4 will serve as the final season of the show. Additionally, Season 4 will reportedly have a smaller episode count, expected to consist of eight episodes, two lower than the 10 featured in the three prior seasons.

Bel Air Renewed For Season 4, Will Be Fresh Prince Reboot's Last
Image
Bel-Air has been renewed for a fourth and final season at Peacock, although there will be one notable change. Back when the reboot debuted, in February 2022, the reimagined and more dramatic take on Will Smith's Fresh Prince of Bel-Air helped establish Peacock as a streaming service and was its most-viewed series at one point. But after having several showrunners at the helm, not to mention numerous twists and cliffhangers, another iteration of Fresh Prince is eying the exits.

Deadline confirms that Bel-Air has been renewed for season 4, which will be the last. The news, which comes almost three months after the season 3 finale, is accompanied by a significant shift. Sources note that season 4 will consist of eight episodes, rather than the usual 10. It's reported that the delay in the renewal occurred after conversations regarding the reboot's budget.

‘Bel-Air’ to End With Season 4 on Peacock
Image
Peacock will return to Bel-Air for one last time.

The NBCUniversal-owned streamer has renewed Bel-Air — a dramatic take on Will Smith’s 1990s NBC comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air — for a fourth and final season. The renewal comes about three months after season three concluded.

The series, which counts Smith among its executive producers, grew out of a YouTube video by Morgan Cooper that reimagined the sitcom as a gritty drama. Peacock ran with the idea and gave the project a two-season order in September 2020; Bel-Air premiered in February 2022.

Season three followed Will (Jabari Banks) and Carlton (Olly Sholotan) becoming closer as Carlton looked to put his life of addiction behind him and rebuild his reputation — but the newfound partnership also revealed fundamental differences in their experiences and worldviews.

“I think the most rewarding thing has been watching people be on the journey with us and start...

‘Bel-Air’ Renewed For Fourth & Final Season By Peacock
Image
Exclusive: Bel-Air, which helped put Peacock on the original series map, will be coming to an end. The modern-day drama reimagining of the popular ‘90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has been picked up for a fourth season, which will be its last. According to sources, the final season will consist of eight episodes, fewer than the 10 episodes in each of the first three seasons.

The renewal comes three months after Bel-Air, produced by Universal Television and Westbrook Studios, released its Season 3 finale on Sept. 5. According to sources, it was preceded by behind-the-scenes budget conversations, which could explain the delay. The most recent Season 3 renewal came ahead of the series’ Season 2 finale.

Peacock stepped up in a major way to land Bel-Air in a very competitive situation when the project was taken out in 2020, handing the drama, based on Morgan Cooper’s viral four-minute spec trailer, a two-season pickup.

10 More WandaVision Spinoffs We Want To See After Agatha All Along & Vision
Image
It's possible that even more WandaVision spinoffs could be developed for the MCU after Marvel Television's Agatha All Along and the upcoming Vision series. WandaVision not only kicked-off the McU's Phase 4 and the Multiverse Saga, but also marked the first time Marvel Studios had branched out into the television format. WandaVision's huge success paved the way for subsequent MCU Disney+ shows, and led to the development of two spinoffs, but the series may have set up even more exciting spinoff shows.

Agatha All Along premiered in September 2024, catching up with Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness in Westview, New Jersey, while Terry Matalas' upcoming Vision series will bring back Paul Bettany in 2026, returning as White Vision from WandaVision's dramatic finale. Aside from setting up Agatha Harkness and White Vision, WandaVision also teased many more potentially-exciting storylines that deserve to be explored in the McU's future. It would be...

Bel-Air lead actor Jabari Banks portrays the modern-era version of Will Smith in Peacock's fresh take on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Should his show get a Season 4, Banks hopes to see the man who played Will's cousin from the '90s series appear.

As the summer takes hold, so too does a new season of the Banks family’s story. Bel-Air transports us back to their wealthy Los Angeles enclave, though changes are underway. This reimagining of the classic sitcom still honors the roots but thrusts the characters into fresh situations that are sure to bring both fun in the sun and thought-provoking drama.

Will Smith remains the show’s anchor, now played with charisma and nuance by Jabari Banks. In Season 3, we follow Will through his first summer away from home in Philadelphia. No longer a student, he navigates life among the country club set alongside new allies. Rapper Vic Mensa steps in as Quentin, an entrepreneur aiming to open doors for other black youth. Bel-Air Season 3 Review: Introspective New Season Needs More Lighthearted Moments To Balance Its Drama
Image
Bel-Air season 3 brings more obstacles for the Banks family to navigate. The show crafts engaging storylines but occasionally pushes characters to act out of character. Despite minor flaws, the emotional depth and introspection of Bel-Air make it worth watching.

After its explosive season 2 finale, with Carlton's addiction coming to light and Will's future seemingly secured, Bel-Air season 3 kicks off the summer for the Banks family. Bel-Air may have been inspired by Will Smith's groundbreaking The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but it has firmly established its own distinct identity and characters, regardless of shared names and settings. In the first three episodes, season 3 continues to deliver thought-provoking, enthusiastic, and authentic stories that provide insight into the diverse array of obstacles that people of color run into, regardless of where they come from and who they are.

As Season 3 of “Bel-Air” lands on Peacock on Thursday, star Olly Sholotan reflected on the series’ success and those who initially doubted how well the show would do.

“There’s a lot of weight to a show like this. Even when we were coming into the first season, a lot of people didn’t think it was going to work,” Sholotan told TheWrap. “I think in order to find that, in order to have it work, it’s so important that we have a cast that feels like a family.”

Morgan Cooper’s reimagining of NBC’s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” has carved out its own lane next to the original series. In May 2022, the series was crowned Peacock’s most-watched original after it reached a total of 8 million accounts following its series debut in February 2022. And even with Season 3, faithful fans are still cheering the show on.

Bel-Air Cast & Character Guide
Image
Bel-Air reimagines The Fresh Prince with a new cast, darker tone, and deeper character development. Familiar names, different stories: Bel-Air explores the Banks family dynamics in a grittier, more dramatic way. Jabari Banks shines as the new Will Smith in Bel-Air, adding his own flair to the West Philly-raised character.

Bel-Air is a reimagined version of The French Prince of Bel-Air, with a new ensemble cast taking on the familiar, beloved characters. There are some differences between the Bel-Air characters and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air characters, even though they may share the same name. The 2022 Peacock series is much darker and more dramatic than the 1990 sitcom. Yet, even when approached differently, they share some similarities in storylines and character traits.

Both series focus on the Banks family and their cousin Will, who moves to Bel-Air after, as the original theme song states, got in one...

‘Bel-Air’ Season 3 Review: Peacock Show Juggles Too Much Drama
Image
Anticipation was high for “Bel-Air” two years ago, the dramatic flip of the beloved classic comedy “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Kansas City native Morgan Cooper’s re-imagining of the pop culture fixture started as a fan film he uploaded to YouTube in 2019 that generated so much buzz that Will Smith himself jumped aboard as an executive producer. And the success of the first season, not to mention glowing reviews of the show’s depiction of class tensions — and changes like fresh takes on Hillary as a culinary influencer and Carlton as a struggling, undercover addict — beget a second season and now a third.

But the latest installment takes a somewhat greater departure from the first two seasons. Instead of taking place during the school year, Season 3 takes over the summer, placing Will (Jabari Banks) and Carlton (Olly Sholotan) in a country club setting that television has typically reserved for young white kids.

“You always told me I was in control of my own destiny,” Banks, who plays Smith’s iconic role in the dramatic reboot, says at one point in the trailer as the street-smart Philadelphia teen continues to grapple with life in steamy, summertime Los Angeles as he bumps into his estranged father, Lou, played by Marlon Wayans.

“I left behind basketball. That was my way out the hood. That was the only good thing in my life and see my son making the same damn mistakes as me and there’s nothing I could do about it,” Will’s frustrated father tells his son as he sits next to Uncle Phil, played by Adrian Holmes.

Set in modern-day Los Angeles, Peacock’s drama series imagines the beloved sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air through a new, dramatic take on Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. As these two worlds collide, Will reckons with the power of second chances while navigating the conflicts, emotions, and biases of a world far different from the only one he’s ever known.

In season three, the school’s out for the summer, and Will is doing Bel-Air his way. Being a part of the Banks family has given him a new perspective – it isn’t just about wealth, it means that Will now has options to lean into other things that...

Kendrick Lamar
Drake, Kendrick Lamar to Compete at BET Awards; Nicki Minaj, Sza, J. Cole Earn Multiple Nominations
Kendrick Lamar
The Drake-Kendrick Lamar showdown will continue — at the 2024 BET Awards.

The rappers will compete in two categories at the June 30 show: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is nominated for “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sza and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is nominated for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”

Drake is the show’s top contender with seven nominations, thanks to his album For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition). Lamar didn’t release an album that was eligible this year. The Canadian rapper’s other nominations include album of the year, best male R&b/pop artist and viewer’s choice for “Rich Baby Daddy.” He’s nominated twice in the video of the year category: “Rich Baby Daddy” and his guest verse on J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” the late 2023 track that reignited his feud with Lamar.

Who Is Photon? Monica Rambeau's Origin & Powers Explained
Image
Monica Rambeau's journey from a child to a powerful superhero in the MCU has been a significant evolution. Monica Rambeau's abilities include spectral vision, intangibility, energy absorption, enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, and flight. Monica Rambeau's fate in 2023's The Marvels make her one of the most important superheroes in the McU's Multiverse Saga.

Phase 5's The Marvels marked Monica Rambeau's first feature film appearance as Photon in the MCU, taking inspiration from the powerful superhero from Marvel Comics. Monica Rambeau was initially portrayed by Akira Akbar, though Teyonah Parris debuted as the adult Monica in 2021's WandaVision. After making her first appearance on Disney+, Parris made the move to the big screen to star alongside Brie Larson and Iman Vellani in 2023's The Marvels, making up one-third of the titular team. Despite being a relatively underdeveloped character in the MCU, Monica Rambeau is one of the most important heroes of the Multiverse Saga.

The Marvels Makes MCU Disney+ Series Essential Viewing
Image
The Marvels is partly a sequel to Captain Marvel and partly a continuation of various Disney+ series. Both Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan got their superpowers on MCU shows on Disney+. Audience members who haven't been following Marvel's streaming releases may struggle to keep up with the latest MCU movie.

The following contains spoilers for The Marvels, now playing in theaters.

When the first MCU Disney+ series were announced, Marvel fans had questions about how essential these shows would be to understanding new MCU movies. The interconnected nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has often placed a certain amount of pressure on audiences to keep up to date with the entire franchise, as any one entry may reference any other. While there was clearly excitement to see MCU storytelling extend to television in a form that was more integrated with the movies than had been seen before, there were also...

‘The Marvels’ Star Teyonah Parris Cried When She Learned She Was an MCU Superhero
Image
The rocky current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is partly due to its over-extension into too many streaming shows of varying quality — but at the same time, the best of those series have introduced some of the current MCU’s most promising characters. In the just-released The Marvels, the brightest spots are the new teammates who join Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers: Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) of Disney+’s Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau, first played by Teyonah Parris on the single best MCU show, WandaVision. (The character,...

How ‘The Marvels’ Got Its Blerd Girl Energy
Image
Nia DaCosta survived the roller coaster of making “The Marvels,” but London’s rush hour traffic threatens to make her sick.

It’s late October, weeks from the Nov. 10 release of the $250 million superhero movie, and DaCosta is conducting a Zoom interview from the back seat of a car as it inches toward her home. “I apologize for the motion,” she says.

The setting is apropos for how DaCosta’s life has played out over the past seven years — racing from one project to the next. DaCosta was 28 when her debut feature, “Little Woods,” starring Tessa Thompson and Lily James, won the Nora Ephron Award for female filmmakers at the Tribeca Film Festival. Then, with 2021’s “Candyman,” she became the first Black female director to hit No. 1 at the box office on opening weekend. When that milestone was announced, she was already on set for “The Marvels.” At 31, DaCosta became...

‘The Marvels’ Receives Unsurprising Age Rating
Image
Marvel Studios had its ups and downs with MCU movies this year. Well, one down and one up, to be precise. ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ was released in February, and despite being promoted as the first real step towards the upcoming crossover event ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ ‘Quantumania’ grossed only $476 million. Although it isn’t the lowest-grossing MCU movie, it is one of the few movies in the franchise that failed to break even during its theatrical run. On the other hand, James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ was released last May to critical and commercial success.

In 15 years of its existence, the Marvel Cinematic Universe spawned 32 feature movies, and this November, we’re going to watch the 33rd installment of the franchise, ‘The Marvels’ This is a direct sequel to 2019’s ‘Captain Marvel,’ and the follow-up to ‘WandaVision,’ ‘Ms. Marvel,’ and ‘Secret Invasion’ shows that...

Rumor: The Marvels Cut a Major Monica Rambeau Scene
Image
Despite marketing and toy merchandise for The Marvels using the superhero name 'Photon' for Monica Rambeau, a new rumor has stated that the character will not actually use the alias in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

According to trusted scooper CanWeGetSomeToast on Instagram, The Marvels includes a scene aboard Carol Danvers' ship featuring Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Monica (Teyonah Parris) trying to brainstorm a superhero name for the latter. However, the part where Monica decides to actually take on the alias Photon has reportedly been cut from the theatrical copy of the film.
