John Mulaney and his team of writers came together for a special screening and Q&a for the three-time Emmy winner’s Netflix show, Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney, as part of the streamer’s Fysee LA screening series in Hollywood.
Ahead of the sit-down chat — moderated by Fred Armisen at the Egyptian Theatre on Saturday night — Mulaney spoke with Gold Derby about the show’s open-format style, which he described as a cross between doing Netflix specials and being on a comedy tour, along with the “electric” level of talent who joined the process.
“Conan [O’Brien] and [David] Letterman … I was so flattered they wanted to do it,” he told Gold Derby. “And Randy Newman, Tina [Fey]. And also the excitement of someone like Stavros [Halkias] or Robby Hoffman, Nikki Glaser, who I’ve known for so many years. The showrunner of What We Do in the Shadows has revealed the major goal they were able to accomplish in season 6. The FX mockumentary show, which stars Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, and Mark Proksch as Staten Island-based vampire roommates Nandor, Laszlo, Nadja, and Colin Robinson, alongside Harvey Guilln as the human familiar Guillermo, is based on the 2014 New Zealand movie of the same name by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement. What We Do in the Shadows season 6, which premiered with three episodes on October 21, will be the final season of the show.
Screen Rant had the opportunity to sit down for an interview with What We Do in the Shadows showrunner Paul Simms to discuss season 6. He revealed that the season was not necessarily fulfilling any long-term goals because each time they develop a season, they "use up everything we have." However, for the final season they got...

Plot: In the sixth and final season of the Emmy-nominated comedy, Nandor, Nadja, Laszlo, Colin and Guillermo will enter the workforce, visit New Hampshire, go to a human dinner party, fête The Baron and conjure a demon — all while trying to find their place and their purpose in this crazy, mixed-up world.
Review: Since it debuted in 2019, What We Do In The Shadows has consistently been one of the funniest television shows. Taking a cue from the mockumentary film of the same name starring Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, What We Do In The Shadows has followed the Staten Island-based vampires Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), energy vampire Colin Robinson (Mark Prosch), and Nandor’s familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillen) as they have explored the day to day life of the bloodsuckers and their interactions with the human world. The series has been consistent in tone and...

"You couldn't transcend without me! We need each other." Dark Sky Films has debuted the main trailer for an indie comedy called Let's Start A Cult, the first narrative feature from an indie director named Ben Kitnick. This has such an awkward and edgy premise that it kind of makes sense that not many would give this a look. After missing out on a long-awaited mass suicide, an obnoxious cult member (Stavros Halkias) teams up with his former leader (Wes Haney) to rebuild their group, gathering a gang of awkward outcasts determined to fulfill their transcendent destiny. It's obviously making fun of cults and how dumb they really are, but maybe that is a bit too off-putting or strange for some to deal with? Starring comedian / podcaster Stavros Halkias, plus Wes Haney, Sarafina Vecchio, and Leslie Zang. And appearances by Ethan Suplee, Cm Punk, and comedy duo Rajat Suresh & Jeremy Levick.

Beau Is Afraid posted the top per-screen average of the year so far and the best limited opening for distributor A24 since Uncut Gems, grossing an estimated $320,396 at four locations in New York and LA for a hefty per-screen average of $80K+ in sold-out shows on both coasts. (Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler had a $105k PSA on five screens in 2019 — a limited-opening record at the time.)
In Ari Aster’s surrealist black comedy-horror Beau, Joaquin Phoenix is a mild-mannered man riddled by paranoia, who confronts his worst fears on an epic journey to his hometown for his mother’s funeral. Presales had been looking strong and the numbers certainly came through for the distrib and the director beloved by fans of his previous films Hereditary and Midsommar. The ensemble cast includes Nathan Lane, Amy, Ryan, Parker Posey and Patti LuPone. Expanding in a regional Imax event on 4/18 ahead of...

New York-based comedy writers and actors Jeremy Levick and Rajat Suresh, who regularly satirize pop culture and the news in videos they share on Twitter, recently tackled a subject that hits close to home for us here at The Hollywood Reporter — the THR Actor Roundtable.
In early March, before the Oscars, Levick and Suresh launched The Hollywood Recorder Actors Roundtable, a 54-minute parody of the long-running THR franchise. For their fictional news outlet, The Hollywood Recorder, Levick and Suresh re-created the THR Roundtable experience in painstaking detail, from our starry and inclusive casts to our moderators’ hard-hitting questions (“Finish this sentence: I act because …”) to our use of a really, really, really big table. The Recorder’s Roundtable features Justin Theroux as a self-serious actor promoting an Oscar bait movie (for the record, we have never met anyone like that) and includes performances by actors Colin Stokes as the moderator,...
