The disappointing renewal update was shared during a wide-ranging interview with Deadline, who asked Dungey if she could see The Sex Lives of College Girls make the jump to Netflix, similar to how The Sandman spinoff Dead Boy Detectives moved from Max to Netflix during its production. It’s an abstinence-only ending for The Sex Lives of College Girls, after efforts to resurrect the canceled Max series have proved futile. Back in March, the network told the comedy drama to get off (not in a good way), axing it after a three-season run. Since then, Warner Bros. Television, the folks behind the project, started working hard to secure another set of episodes that would carry on the story of the young group of friends. Unfortunately, the Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble co-created title just can’t seem to seal the deal with any other prospective buyers, making this the end of the road.

Kaling, for example, has a working relationship with Netflix. She co-created the Kate Hudson-starring series Running Point, released on Netflix last month, and the popular drama Never Have I Ever.

The Sex Lives of College Girls has been canceled by Max.

On Tuesday (March 18), it was announced that Max will not pick up the show for a fourth season. The show’s producers are reportedly attempting to re-home the series with Netflix, according to Deadline.

Creator Mindy Kaling has an established relationship with Netflix, as she has co-created and executive produced shows Never Have I Ever and Running Point with the streaming service.

Co-showrunner Justin Noble, who oversaw the show with Kaling, insisted at the time that the episode wasn’t meant to wrap up the series.

Reneé Rapp may no longer be a series regular for “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” but she’s popping up in the first teaser for Season 3. The Max comedy officially returns Nov. 21. New episodes will premiere weekly on Thursdays at 9 p.m. Et and run through Jan. 23.

The first teaser for this upcoming season starts with Bela (Amrit Kaur) enthusiastically filming her roommates. “Oh my god, a double walk of shame? I need to record this historic moment in our suite. Say ‘d–ked down’ on three!”

As Kimberley (Pauline Chalamet) happily complies, Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott) sternly says, “Absolutely not.” That’s the fun-loving tone that carries throughout this initial teaser full of group hugs and parties. HBO has released the trailer for Seth Meyers’ new comedy special “Dad Man Waking,” which premieres Oct. 26 on HBO and Max.

According to an official logline, Meyers’ first HBO stand-up special sees him shift “focus to his personal life – from the chaos of raising three young kids, to navigating different communication styles in marriage, to the proper way to cross the street in New York City. Taped at The Vic Theatre in Chicago, ‘Seth Meyers: Dad Man Walking’ showcases Meyers’ effortless conversational style as he offers up hilarious reflections on family, generational legacies, and why his kids provide the best material for his comedy.”

Earlier this summer we had to endure the misbegotten Summer Camp which was yet another attempt by Diane Keaton, joined by Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard, to mix comedy and later-in-life drama in an older female bonding flick. Keaton had great success in the first film that announced this subgenre, 2018’s Book Club, which smartly matched four veteran actresses including Jane Fonda that led to a more mixed-results sequel set in Italy. Fonda also found real success in the subgenre with the entertaining 80 For Brady with Sally Field, Rita Moreno and Lily Tomlin along for the ride. Thus it seemed natural that other beloved female stars of a certain age would also want to jump on board in this game attempt to reverse Hollywood’s youth obsession and provide a little something-something for aging boomers everywhere.

Whether they travel in groups of three or four, accomplished women of a certain age and their wacky adventures are having a movie moment. The latest entry in this subgenre is a frothy outing that sometimes falls flat, but at least The Fabulous Four doesn’t oversell its theme of friendship or its aha moments of catharsis.

Whatever the feature’s shortcomings, its title is not false advertising; there’s nothing ho-hum about the central quartet of characters, longtime friends who gather when one of them decides, on very short notice, that she’s getting married. As with Book Club, though, the fabulosity is more about the actors — in this case, two true icons (Susan Sarandon and Bette Midler) and two supreme masters of quippery (Sheryl Lee Ralph and Megan Mullally). The opening credits are a valentine to all four.

Series creator, Mindy Kaling, confirmed Rapp’s exit by posting a screenshot of Deadline‘s report after the outlet broke the news.
