‘Adults’ Takes A Strong Stance on Abortion: Everyone Deserves Access, Including Jerks
Image
From the start, the characters of Adults have taken strong political stances. They’re opposed to sexual harassment, particularly by Boomers against Zoomers. They’re anti-gun to the degree that they don’t want to live with one in the home they all share, but if they can sell it for profit, someone else having it is fine. If they weren’t in favor of single-payer healthcare initially, they probably changed their minds after Billie (Lucy Freyer) got that $15,000 medical bill. They’re not too worried about the surveillance state if tracking an AirTag dropped into a hot stranger’s tote bag could lead to a love connection. And — as we learn in the season’s seventh episode, “Annabelle” — they believe everyone should have access to safe and legal abortion, even someone who is kind of an asshole.

The housemates don’t just donate money to abortion funds, as we all should do,...

Owen Thiele Talks ‘Adults’ Love Triangle, ‘Overcompensating’ Ending
Image
Owen Thiele is having his moment. You might recognize him as Anton from FX’s “Adults,” whose friendliness and overly trusting nature leads to some sketchy situations, or as George from “Overcompensating,” who serves as a what he calls a gay fairy godmother for Benito Skinner’s Benny.

Both “Overcompensating” and “Adults,” which debuted within two weeks of one another, have served as an apt launching pad for Thiele, who has previously appeared in “Theater Camp,” “Dollface” and “Hacks,” to name a few.

“It’s really magical getting to work with your friends and then having people actually watch it and like it, because usually the work you do with your friends are little short films that only your parents see and tell you to scrap,” Thiele told TheWrap. “This has been … my dream, and I want to do it for the rest of my life.”

Thiele already knew “Overcompensating...

The Best Non-‘Daily Show’ Comedic Performances by ‘Daily Show’ Anchors and Correspondents
Image
“Theracide,” the first of this week’s two episodes of Adults to air* on FX, explores typically challenging territory for the show’s questionably adult characters. Samir (Malik Elassal) and Paul Baker (Jack Innanen) get too attached to a group of high schoolers who’ve convinced gig worker Samir to deliver them beer. Billie (Lucy Freyer) gets way too nervous meeting her older boyfriend’s adult friends and tries to overcompensate with bawdy jokes.

Anton (Owen Thiele) and Issa (Amita Rao) have the most grown-up problem, which they attempt to resolve by the most childish means: George, their mutual therapist, has suddenly died, and to determine whether their nonsense drove him to suicide, Issa hires a medium. Anton is right to doubt that Taryn is on the level, not only because she’s claiming she can communicate with the dead but because she’s doing so with a Ouija board...

“Adults, A Series Of Seriously Immature Pranksters’ Pecadillos” – A Subhash K Jha Review
Image
Adults, created by Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw , is a strange beast to grapple with, and even harder to tame. It is funny, sassy, risque (sometime to an embarrassing degree) and true to its 20-something aspirations.

But it also seems like much sound and fury signifying callowness. As our character-actor David Abraham Cheulker said in one of his films, “The problem with the young generation is that they have no problems.”

Unlike, say, the recent far superior Lafange where the young post-teen friends face severe unemployment challenges, in Adults the problems seem far less grave, and flimsy. For instance Billie (Lucy Freyer) loses her job after unintentionally insulting her boss. But she and her buddies are not overly worried: not the way their third-world counterparts would be.When her medical insurance bills are taken acre of by a benefactor she thanks him, though not in the way people usually do with their mouths.

6 best new streaming comedy shows that have kept us laughing in 2025 (so far)
Image
When we needed the laughs most, the new comedy series released so far this year really delivered. The best part about the comedies that have debuted on streaming in 2025 are that there's no debate about if they're actually comedies. Based on their sense of humor, overall tone, and ability to crack jokes a mile a minute, there's no confusing these shows with dramas.

Netflix in particular has been on a hot streak with new original comedies, led by the success of Nobody Wants This and A Man on the Inside late last year. The streamer has kept the laughs going with two of the funniest new shows of 2025 featuring even more stars everyone loves. Meanwhile, two new young adult series have hit everyone's funny bone, Apple TV+ hit it out of the park with a hilarious Hollywood send-up, and a Hulu hidden gem hit us in the feels.

Sabrina Carpenter shares love for Adults, and that gives me an idea for season 2
Image
Since its premiere on FX and binge drop on Hulu in late May, Adults has been one of the new shows everyone has been talking about. There are edits up and down social media as viewers ship various characters and talk about the funniest moments from the too short eight-episode first season. The cast has also gotten in on the fun of the social media blitz.

Adults gets love from Sabrina Carpenter, who should be in season 2

Following the release of the show, cast member Owen Thiele, who plays Anton, shared a video on TikTok set to the hit single "Taste" by Sabrina Carpenter. Playing on the song's meaning and music video, in which Jenna Ortega's male love interest keeps turning into Carpenter, the video features Jack Innanen dancing with Amita Rao, but when the camera spins, Thiele is in Rao's place.

Adults season 2 hasn't been confirmed, but FX on Hulu needs to take a chance
Image
There are two new streaming comedy series that everyone seems to be talking about right now, and those are Prime Video's college-set Overcompensating and FX on Hulu's hangout comedy Adults. Both series have a stuck a chord with not only Gen Z audiences but widespread age group that has become obsessed with new voices entering the comedy world and creating something great.

As someone who's almost a decade older than the characters in Adults, it's one of my new favorite comedy series. The series has shades of iconic shows before it, like Broad City, Girls, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (and those aren't demeaning or reductive comparisons). Adults even feels like the punchy little sister of New Girl, who can curse and push the envelope even more.

That's all to say that Adults has all the makings of a long-running, beloved hit series, and that was apparent when...

“Wait, I’m Slapping a Teenager Who’s Getting An Abortion?”: How the Cast of ‘Adults’ Pulled Off Their Boundary-Pushing Comedy
Image
FX’s newest series, Adults, is a hangout comedy that follows a group of 20-somethings sharing a house in Queens. It follows the tradition of Friends for obvious narrative reasons. Also, like Friends, its cast is made up of (relatively) new-to-the-scene young actors who were painstakingly chosen from across the comedic spectrum (standup, improv, sketch, and TikTok) and then asked to perform the chemistry of longtime friends. In the case of Adults, the group was essentially perfect strangers.

The show’s creators, Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw are twenty-somethings themselves, former Tonight Show writers who partnered with executive producer Nick Kroll to bring the story (loosely based on their own friend group) to life. The cast — Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Owen Thiele, Amita Rao and Malik Elassal — credits the showrunners for fostering an environment that allowed them to become best friends in a matter of weeks and also become comfortable...

‘Adults’ Team Breaks Down Dinner Party Chaos With Charlie Cox’s Dancing & That Raw Chicken Reveal
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Adults Season 1, Episode 6, “Roast Chicken.”] FX‘s new comedy Adults has landed on Hulu, and with it, a potential new classic dinner party episode. The sixth installment of this first season is aptly titled “Roast Chicken,” which is served up in quite a state by guest star Charlie Cox. The episode revolves around Billie (Lucy Freyer), who has decided to throw a dinner party to impress her new boyfriend, referred to by her pals as Mr. Teacher (Cox). Eager to enter the “roast chicken phase of life,” Billie tasks her friends Samir (Malik Elassal), Anton (Owen Thiele), Issa (Amita Rao), and Paul Baker (Jack Innanen) with helping her put the event together by dressing up, serving hors d’oeuvres, and chatting up the guests. FX on Hulu's hilarious new comedy Adults lives up to its title (parents guide)

If you're a millennial who has been longing for a good, old-school hang-out sitcom about 20-somethings bumbling their way through New York City and making all kinds of mistakes, FX on Hulu has quite the treat for you. How ‘Adults’ Creators Drew From ‘Broad City,’ ‘Friends’ and ‘Girls’ for FX’s Messy Comedy
Image
When “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” writers Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw were growing up, they fell in love with shows like “Broad City,” “Friends,” “Girls” and “Living Single,” whose familial-like friendships became a blueprint to ease the strains of navigating your 20s.

“[I was like] I really hope, not only do I have these jobs, but that I have this friend group, these people to pick me up when I fall,” Shaw told TheWrap, noting the comfort in knowing even her favorite characters didn’t have it all figured out. “They’re still in the process of adolescence and figuring out what your life looks like at this time of life.'”

That ride-or-die loyalty is at the heart of FX’s new comedy series, “Adults” — but just without the dream jobs, as a group of friends — Samir (Malik Elassal), Issa (Amita Rao), Anton (Owen Thiele), Billie (Lucy Freyer) and Paul Baker...

Why FX’s ‘Adults’ Team Has Been Partying at Laundromats

FX’s new comedy series Adults gave a unique spin to its promotional plans.

The show’s launch was celebrated last week with “Suds and Sounds,” an activation and party at two laundromats: Laundry Room in Culver City and LaundryBee in Sunnyside, Queens. Premiering on FX on Wednesday and available for streaming the following day on Hulu, Adults centers on a group of twentysomething friends who live in a house together in New York City and do their best to become good people.

Both locations kicked off the immersive festivities with an opening night party, with the spaces then opened to the public the following day. Guests received laundry cards and snagged free T-shirts and laundry bags from branded vending machines, while there were also bodega snacks, espresso drinks, themed cocktails, tarot readings and DJ sets.

Adults stars Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Amita Rao and Owen Thiele attended the L.

Dave Nemetz Reviews Adults: FX’s Hilarious Gen Z Sitcom Gives TV a Much-Needed Youth Infusion
Image
Young people are an endangered species on TV these days. Broadcast TV has given up on them entirely, and even cable and streaming shows rarely focus on people in their 20s unless it’s through a sci-fi or supernatural lens. It’s as if TV has thrown up the white flag and surrendered an entire generation to YouTube and TikTok. That’s why it’s a relief to see a show like FX’s Adults hit our screens. (It debuts tonight at 9/8c on FX and streams in full on Hulu starting tomorrow; I’ve seen the first three episodes.

There's a new group of friends arriving in the television world this week, and they are loud, unique, memorable, and the perfect escape for our watch lists. FX on Hulu debuts the laugh-out-loud hilarious comedy series Adults, which comes from executive producer Nick Kroll and should be among the funniest and best new streaming comedy series of the year so far.

‘Adults’ Review: FX’s Gen Z Hangout Comedy Still Has Some Growing Up to Do
Image
There’s a moment in FX’s Adults when Billie (Lucy Freyer), in an effort to win over an older boyfriend’s friends, joins in on their good-natured roasting of one of their own. Only, her joke doesn’t land. It’s too lewd and too loud; the middle-aged moms and dads listening are not just perplexed but offended. As they shuffle away, one mutters to another: “She is 24.”

At the risk, then, of sounding like the geriatric millennial I am: Adults, like Billie, feels very 24, at least in the sense that I remember myself at that age — bursting with energy but not always confident in its own perspective, not that it lets that keep it from shouting every passing thought at top volume. It can be a little exhausting, in a way that occasionally made me want to pull it aside and suggest it take a breath. But it’s also bright enough (and,...

But does it succeed? Oh yes, it does.

Adults, previously titled Snowflakes, follows five friends who live and exist in New York City while trying to navigate that pesky little thing called adulthood.

The five friends are Samir, Billie, Issa, Anton, and Paul Baker (whom you must refer to by his full name because those are the rules!). And they all live together in Samir’s childhood home.

Image
Are you missing the buddy ensemble comedy? FX has you covered with its upcoming series, Adults, from creators Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw. Stepping in to executive produce are Stefani Robinson, among many others, including Nick Kroll. After having worked on FX’s other hit comedies, Atlanta and What We Do in the Shadows, Robinson brought her skills over to Adults to help Kronengold and Shaw shape their vision for this silly and relatable series. Set in New York, the show follows pals Samir (Malik Elassal), Billie (Lucy Freyer), Paul Baker (Jack Innanen), Issa (Amita Rao), and Anton (Owen Thiele), who are all crashing in Samir’s childhood home together. While their day-to-day lives are fairly down-to-earth, the challenges and hurdles they face are approached with a certain level of anxiety that anyone who went through their twenties is sure to recognize. “Our goal with this friend group was we...

‘Adults’ Is a Hangout Cringe Comedy for the Next Generation
Image
Into every generation, a hangout sitcom is born — light on plot, and heavy on the chemistry of a group of young adults spending way too much time together in the big city. Gen X had Friends. The millennials had too many to count, including New Girl, How I Met Your Mother, and Happy Endings. Gen Z hasn’t quite had its own moment yet, in part because most show creators are at least in their thirties, in part because the TV business assumes that most of Gen Z is getting their video on nontraditional platforms.

Adults Season 1 Review: Gen Z’s Riotous Roommate Romp
Image
Adults drops us straight into the cluttered living room of Samir’s childhood home in Queens, where five twenty-somethings attempt what might be called “affirma-limbo” (that awkward phase of seeking adult validation while clinging to adolescent certainties). From the pilot’s subway scene—equal parts social-justice parody and cringe-comedy—to a dinner-table meltdown worthy of ancient Roman farce, the series stakes its claim as a breezy comedy with absurdist edges.

Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, whose Yale-era speech went viral in 2018, steer the show for FX and Hulu with a quiet confidence that belies its occasional chaos. Their writing team sprinkles social commentary—healthcare mishaps, whistleblower spectacles—into the day-to-day misadventures of Issa, Paul, Billie, Anton and Samir.

What sets this sitcom apart isn’t merely its setting in less-gentrified Queens but its self-aware Gen Z gaze: the characters wield smartphones like modern-day lances, staging protests on social media as...

FX’s New Sitcom ‘Adults’ Is A Very Good, Very Silly Time
Image
The cold open of FX’s new sitcom Adults shows its cast of adorable twentysomethings in a subway cuddle puddle, relying on each other to keep track of their keys and bag and bragging about getting discounts via suggestive Instagram DMs with the Papa John’s account. Later in the episode, one of the housemates tries to get her way by putting on a flirtatious persona called “Titty Baby”; another doesn’t have a checking account or know his Social Security number. Yet, despite a cast of characters I should find extremely grating, Adults is a hangout show I really enjoyed hanging out with.

Like all the best shows in this sitcom sub-category, Adults — which premieres next Wednesday on FX before dropping its whole eight-episode season on Hulu the following day — barely has a premise. Samir (Malik Elassal) lives in his childhood home in “the shit taint of Queens.” His...

‘Adults’ Review: FX Comedy Finds the Fun in Gen Z Messiness
Image
Welcome back to shows about messy twenty-something groups of friends! It’s been a while, and FX’s new comedy “Adults” is a strong addition to a sub-genre that has been experiencing a major shortage since shows like “Girls,” “Good Trouble” and “Search Party” went off the air. Created by writing duo Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw in their first television creation since writing for “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the show follows five codependent housemates as they navigate various early adulthood misadventures amid student loans, precarious jobs and a lack of health insurance in Queens, New York.

The recently post-college quintet is made up of Samir (Malik Elassal), whose parents own the house his friends are crashing at, rent-free; Anton, a gay remote worker whose superpower of befriending literally anyone gets him into trouble later in the season; Billie (Lucy Freyer), a journalism major who’s struggling to...
