Plot twists are a necessary component of storytelling. These unexpected events assist in the story’s progression or contribute to the dynamic development of our favorite characters. In shojo anime, though, ingenious plot twists aren’t that common. Shojo anime are predictable enough that viewers can easily guess what will happen next. As a result, viewers mainly watch the series for the interesting characters rather than the romantic or slice-of-life storylines.
However, a handful of shojo plot twists have captivated audiences. These plot twists include unexpected love triangles or a sudden betrayal within a close-knit group of friends or family. Here are the best shojo anime plot twists that have entertained viewers for decades.

Love stories are foundational to anime, which is why it's no surprise that the best romance anime are also some of the best anime period. Whether it be understated and adult or loud and juvenile, romance anime are endlessly compelling and have a massive fan base for good reason. Even fans of straight-up action shonen series might want to give romance anime a try given how many solid series there are.
One advantage romance anime have over their more action-oriented counterparts is that a focus on characters is an absolute requirement. While a sci-fi or fantasy series might be able to get away with a forgettable cast of characters, a love story needs to pay extra attention to its characters or else the story will fall apart. It's this focus on characters connecting and growing together that end up defining the very best romance anime series.

The anime genre of isekai is a vast and varied one. In its simplest form, isekai is about taking a character or characters from one world - usually our own - to a completely new one. This latter world tends to be fantastical in nature, but doesn't always have to be. In fact, sometimes the fantastical is sent to our world instead.
Another way some anime subverts isekai tradition is through its protagonist. Usually, the main hero in these shows is a human when they're transported over, and remain as such throughout the series. Think KonoSuba or Re:Zero. They may be granted magical powers, but they're still just humans in the end. Other anime turn that tradition on its head by casting the protagonist as something as different as the world they find themselves in, creating a brand-new viewing experience for anime fans.

Anime with low ratings aren't always as bad as they seem - they may deserve a second chance. Keijo!!!!!!!! unapologetically embraces fan service but offers a fun and creative story. Shows like Watamote turn social anxiety into comedy, offering a unique perspective on the struggles faced.
Anime is more popular than ever these days, with one amazing hit after the next. But while most titles are well-received by fans, not every series manages to resonate with an audience. In fact, some anime are downright hated, earning an abysmally low score on sites like MyAnimeList or IMDb. These titles are often the most infamous out there, collectively accepted as the worst of their genres.
Theres no denying that anime has had its fair share of duds over the years. From poor production causing a dip in quality to series featuring a controversial premise, the flaws in these anime are often too glaring for most to overlook.

Wrestling has a surprising amount in common with anime. They both feature larger-than-life heroes, villains who are capable of the most evil acts, and ridiculous fight scenes that defy comprehension. Anime and wrestling are also environments where characters can freely move between wicked whims and pure intentions without necessarily facing real-world consequences.
There's significant crossover between the themes and values in both anime and wrestling, but the similarities go even deeper. Anime has established an impressive reputation for the diverse places that it's pushed wrestling. There are grounded, patient series that focus on the basics of the sport, while others bravely turn wrestling into a chaotic free-for-all solution to the apocalypse. Between these extreme examples, there's a lot for wrestling fans to explore.

Few anime subgenres are as distinctively niche as harem anime, where seemingly everyone is in love with the show's protagonist. Traditionally, this has been a young man surrounded by beautiful women, as in Tenchi Muyo!, but "reverse harems" like Ouran High School Host Club are some of the most popular examples of the subgenre.
While harem anime isn't for everyone, many shows transcend the limitations associated with this subgenre. It's possible to tell a complex, funny love story without relying on sexist tropes. The best harem series have plenty to offer their fans.
