Artists Equity, the independent studio founded by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Gerry Cardinale, has signed an overall theatrical feature film agreement with Sony Pictures. Under the three-year agreement, Sony will distribute the theatrical films globally, which will be developed and produced by Artists Equity. Sony will finance the films and handle all ancillaries, with Artists Equity having the option to co-finance individual projects.

“Artists Equity, in the short span of its existence, has proven remarkably adept at developing and producing high quality commercial films,” said Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group chairman and CEO Tom Rothman. “This is not a surprise to me as I have known the two creative ‘Pros from Dover’ for many years and always admired their smarts, talent and moxie. Now that Ben and Matt and their team have set their sights firmly on the high bar of the theatrical market, Sony is lucky as hell to be partnering with them.

Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen Swing Into Action With New ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ Funko Pops
Image
We’re more than two years removed from the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but the film continues to prove it still has more to give. Funko has officially unveiled two new limited edition Pops, one for Miles Morales’ Spider-Man and another for Gwen Stacey’s Spider-Gwen. The former is voiced by Shameik Moore in Sony’s Spider-Verse movies, and the latter is voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. The new collectibles show a vibrant finish that gives the impression that a bright neon light is shining on the figures. Only 7,500 of each will be made, and they went on sale Friday, June 20, at 9 am. Both retail for $20, and official images of each new figure can be found below, along with pre-order links.

While fans have argued and will continue to debate for years about who is the best live-action Spider-Man, the Spider-Verse movies have offered a bit of an escape from the discourse.

Shameik Moore Teases A Third Miles Morales Variant In Spider-man: Beyond The Spider-verse
Image
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was announced for a March 2024 release. Unfortunately, what was once only a one-year wait for the resolution to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's big cliffhanger will now be four years by the time we sit down to watch the threequel.

Concerns about a release date delay started when the movie's cast admitted they hadn't seen a script or recorded any lines while promoting the second movie. A delay seemed inevitable, and details about what to expect from Beyond the Spider-Verse have been few and far between since that came.

Shameik Moore plays Miles Morales in the animated franchise, and during a brief red carpet interview, he revealed that we'll see three versions of his Spider-Man in the movie.

The interviewer seemed to be under the impression that Moore voices Miles G. Morales, a.k.a. Earth-42's Prowler. In reality, Jharrel Jerome plays him, so...

New Prime Video Movie Has Set A Major Streaming Record Following Trailer Release
Image
A new movie trailer on Prime Video has broken a major streaming record. In 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine's movie trailer went viral, garnering 365 million views across platforms in the first 24 hours, and became the most-viewed movie trailer of all time in the first 24 hours, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home's record. Original streaming movies, which began to emerge in recent years, have been quietly making history.

Prime Video, in particular, has a lot of exciting new projects in store for 2025. Based on the true story of Anthony Robles (Jharrel Jerome), Unstoppable stars Jennifer Lopez as a devoted mother and became the most popular movie on the platform. April saw the release of G20, headlined by Oscar-winner Viola Davis as U.S. President Danielle Sutton, being targeted by attackers. This was followed by the Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick co-led sequel, Another Simple Favor, in May.

‘Last of Us’ star Bella Ramsey would be the youngest Best Drama Actress Emmy winner, knocking down Zendaya
Image
The Best Drama Actress Emmy race could be one for the ages this year. Kathy Bates would become the category's oldest winner at 77 if she prevails for Matlock, but one the other end of the spectrum, Bella Ramsey would be the youngest winner with a victory for The Last of Us.

Ramsey, who'd also be the first non-binary performer to win an Emmy, will be 11 days shy of their 22nd birthday at the time of Emmy ceremony on Sept. 14. They would dethrone Zendaya, who was 24 when she won her first of two trophies for Euphoria in 2020. Ramsey could've set this record on their first nomination for the HBO drama at 20 at the delayed 2023 ceremony, but they lost to Sarah Snook (Succession).

Recent trends favor Ramsey to make history more so than Bates. Zendaya broke the record just a year after Jodie Comer set it with her Best Drama Actress win...

'There's 1 Thing I've Learned': Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Gets an Exciting Update From Star Hailee Steinfeld
Image
Hawkeye and Sinners star Hailee Steinfeld has delivered a positive update regarding the long-gestating, eagerly anticipated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. A sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and 2023's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the upcoming final series installment is slated to hit theaters in June 2027.

Sony initially planned to release Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2024 before pushing to 2025, with fans still having to wait a couple more years at least. In an interview with MTV's Josh Horowitz to promote her new movie Sinners, Steinfeld stated her trust in the movie's producers and teased that the final product will be "masterful," amply rewarding fans of the franchise for their patience. "You gotta trust the process," she said. "If there's one thing I've learned with that is that - you put it in their hands, you're going to end with something masterful." The fan-favorite actor voices Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman in...

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Gets A Release Date, And Fans Are In For A Long Wait
Image
In 2023, Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) asked if we wanted in on the new band she was putting together before jumping into "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse," the final chapter in the beloved and groundbreaking animated trilogy chronicling the adventures of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore). Well, after two years, we finally know when we're headed back to that wonderful multi-verse of wall-crawling action -- we're just going to have to wait another two years to see it.

Among the slew of announcements at CinemaCon this week, Sony finally set a new release date for the highly-anticipated third chapter in Morales' story. The film is now set to reach theaters on June 4, 2027, which is quite a shift from its originally-announced launch date on March 29, 2024. Of course, this change has been a long time in the making, what with Sony having initially yanked "Beyond the Spider-Verse" off its calendar all the way back in...

Spider-man: Beyond The Spider-verse Trailer Description Revealed As Filmmakers Share New Story Details
Image
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally set to be released in theaters last year; unfortunately, what looked like a one-year wait for the resolution to that big Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse cliffhanger will now be resolved after four years on June 4, 2027.

A first look at the movie has been released (you check out those stills below if you missed them last night), but those attending CinemaCon were fortunate enough to see a brief teaser trailer.

Here's how Variety described what sounds like a largely unrevealing sneak peek:

"In the footage, which again showcased the franchise’s bold, stylized animation, Miles Morales declares that he’s doing things 'his way' after everyone lamenting that everyone has been telling him how his own story is supposed to go. Gwen Stacy and other Spidey friends also made appearances in the brief teaser, which hasn’t yet been released to the public."

Conclave, Anora And The Brutalist Score Big At The 2025 BAFTA Film Awards –– See The Full List Of Winners
Image
The Ee BAFTA Film Awards happened this evening at the Royal Festival Hall in London, hosted once more by David Tennant.

Poking fun at Trump during his monologue, Tennant also offered the usual celebrity gags and had several stars singing part of The Proclaimers' "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)".

Cautioning audience members that there would not be an intermission as with nominated epic The Brutalist, Tennant also admonished winners to "keep your speeches the opposite of your films: nice and short."

A somewhat surprising addition to the night (though perhaps not given their presence on the soundtracks for both Better Man and Anora) was a performance of "Greatest Day" by Take That.

As for the winners, it was a good night for Conclave, which won Best Film, another Adapted Screenplay trophy for writer Peter Straughan, Best British Film and Editing and A Real Pain, which went home with Original Screenplay for...

Miles Morales may be stuck in the Spider-Verse indefinitely
Image
Maybe it wasn't such a good idea for Sony Pictures to venture into the Spider-Verse because they appear to be stuck, lost, or worse yet, can't find directions toward a release date for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Can someone please get them a Gps or something?!

Initially slated for March 2024, there have been repeated delays and bad news from Sony related to the Spider-Verse. Unfortunately, the SAG-AFTRA strike delays affected that original date. Then, last September, fans were told that Beyond the Spider-Verse may not be released until 2027, citing a traffic jam of Spider properties on the calendar. Also, insider Jeff Sneider reported, "Sony scrapped most of Beyond the Spider-Verse for creative reasons.

Now, we have another update from Jharrel Jerome, the voice behind the Spider-Verse's patriarch, Miles G. Morales. He was interviewed by Decider about his new emotional triumph movie, Unstoppable. Following his chat about the film and co-star Jennifer Lopez,...

Kevin Costner's 11-Year-Old Sports Drama Is Getting Rebooted for TV (With 1 Big Change)
Image
A take on Ivan Reitman’s 2014 sports movie, Draft Day, is coming to television. The movie, which starred Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner, and the late Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) focused on an NFL football general manager, but the new series will be set in a different sports world - the NBA.

Per Deadline, Lionsgate TV, SpringHill, and Madison Wells are developing the Draft Day series that will “capture the drama and excitement of watching basketball players get drafted and fulfill their dreams,” in a similar fashion to the Reitman film. The film version currently has a 60% on Rotten Tomatoes and made $29.8 million at the worldwide box office.

NBA star LeBron James and Maverick Carter founded SpringHill, which will executive produce the TV series. Madison Wells, which produced 2014’s Draft Day, will produce the show. No writer has been attached to the project.

The multi-hyphenate touched down in Park City, Utah this weekend ahead of the world premiere of her festival selection Kiss of the Spider Woman from filmmaker Bill Condon. But before Sunday night’s showing at the Eccles, Lopez reminded fest-goers and revelers of her other talents by jumping into the DJ booth at Tao Park City.

Jennifer Lopez & Jharrel Jerome's 'Unstoppable' Reaches #1 on Prime Video

Unstoppable is living up to its title, to say the least. The heartwarming story of a real-life wrestler has reached the very top spot on Prime Video's streaming chart in the United States (via Flix Patrol). 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse' Voice Actors Have Yet to Record Lines
Image
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and the entire Spider-Verse franchise revealed that there are an infinite number of multi-verses, all with their own canon events. Unfortunately, our canon event is for Beyond the Spider-Verse to never hit theaters. The third installment in the Spider-Verse trilogy (which began with 2018's Into the Spider-Verse) was already meant to be released in theaters in early 2024, but was delayed indefinitely by Sony. Reports on the movie's status are conflicting, but one of its stars just gave a sour update.

During an interview with Decider, to promote his new movie, Unstoppable, Jharrel Jerome gave a disappointing update on Beyond the Spider-Verse's production. The actor, who plays the Earth-42 variant of Miles Morales, was asked if he had begun recording his lines for the movie yet. "No, I wish," was his honest response. Jerome said that pre-production is still underway on the third installment in the trilogy,...

Jennifer Lopez’s New Sports Drama Soars To Top Of Streaming Charts Just Days After Releasing
Image
Jennifer Lopez does not have the best reputation in the film industry. Several of her acting performances have been considered abysmal, as she has been a part of some really bad films. Most infamously this includes Gigli, a 2003 Ben Affleck movie that achieved a mere 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. Other Lopez films, such as The Boy Next Door, Feel the Noise, Jack, and The Wedding Planner have also managed to get Tomatometers that are under 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. In critics' eyes, Lopez has had a very rotten streak.

This is not true of every Lopez movie, however, as she has been in some projects that were critical darlings. Her music documentaries are generally fairly well-received, including The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which has a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. The 1998 crime drama Out of Sight got a universally positive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Lopez's performance in Hustlers was also praised back in 2019, and it got an 88% Tomatometer.

Here’s The Touching True Story Behind Amazon’s ‘Unstoppable’
Image
“Unstoppable” is now streaming on Prime Video, telling the story of Anthony Robles, a boy born with only one leg who goes on to become an NCAA wrestling champion. And yes, the film is based on a true story.

In the film, Robles is played by Jharrel Jerome and his mother Judy is played by Jennifer Lopez. But these are indeed real people, who were even involved in making the film — Anthony Robles even did Jerome’s wrestling for him on-screen — and have seen the final product.

The thing with true stories is, sometimes only parts of it are true. Here’s what we know about the real Anthony Robles.

Was Anthony Robles really a high-school all-star?

Yes, he was. The real Anthony Robles won two state wrestling championships by the time he finished at Mesa High School, going 96–0 in his junior and senior years combined. Robles also won a national championship as a senior.

“No, I wish. We haven’t started up yet”: Devastating Beyond The Spider-Verse Update is The Final Nail That Seals Sony’s Marvel Dream in a Coffin
Image
With Kraven The Hunter‘s dismal box office returns (many consider it to be one of the worst Comic book flicks of all time) the future of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe hangs in the balance. The people at the helm have realized that they need to turn away from villain origin stories and work on something that has worked for them in the long run.

When considered in this light, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse takes on increasing importance. The movie will mark an end to a trilogy that has actually managed to keep its head high even when other superhero movies were struggling to remain afloat. But not everything is going right for the animated flick as well.

Spider-man: Beyond The Spider-verse Star Says They Still Haven't Been Contacted To Record Their Lines
Image
On December 17, Sony Pictures announced that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has found its directors in Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson. And yes, that news came our way nine months after the threequel was meant to swing into theaters.

Persichetti was part of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse directing team and executive produced Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Thompson, meanwhile, was a production designer on the first movie and graduated to the directing team on the sequel alongside Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers.

Executive producer and writer Chris Miller later explained that the duo had been attached to the movie from the start, though the late announcement did little to ease the minds of fans concerned over just how long it will take to get Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse into theaters.

Today, we have another disappointing update from Miles G. Morales voice actor Jharrel Jerome. Talking to Decider, he...

However, things have been moving slowly ahead for the finale of the Miles Morales trilogy, with fans waiting patiently for the third and final installment in his story.

Jharrel Jerome’s Incredible Story Of The Five Years It Took To Get ‘Unstoppable’ To The Screen
Image
What was it with Amazon MGM Studios sports movies and the pandemic? Rachel Morrison’s “The Fire Inside” took five years to make through fits and starts. Star Ryan Destiny, who portrayed real-life Olympic boxer Claressa “T-Rex” Shields, trained on and off again for five years as the movie was almost killed two different times. Jharrel Jerome’s story was almost more arduous. To portray champion wrestler, Anthony Robles, Jerome persevered through Covid, stopped training for three years, started again, and then saw all his work come to a halt 10 days into shooting “Unstoppable” due to the 2023 guild strikes.

Unstoppable – Review
Image
A scene from Unstoppable. Courtesy of Amazon MGM

Generally, sports films aren’t for me but Unstoppable is an exception, because this remarkable true story is more that an inspiring sport film but also a true story of human character, strength and determination, and even love and family. It is more than it seems at first. The true story of champion wrestler Anthony Robles, born with only one leg but with an unstoppable drive to succeed in the sport he loves, is inspiring but so is the personal story that goes with it. Robles faced a lot of challenges from the start but had one stroke of really good luck of having a supportive, loving parent in his teenaged mother. Actually, Unstoppable is not really about sports (although it does have impressive wrestling scenes), but about human courage and drive, and well, heart.

Anthony Robles faces challenges beyond just having been born with one leg,...

Unstoppable's Jharrel Jerome & Anthony Robles Share Stories Of Strength
Image
Anthony Robles's hero's journey is brought to cinematic life by Jharrel Jerome in Unstoppable. The William Goldenberg-directed film chronicles Robles's career as an amateur wrestler, from his state-wide successes in high school to his nationally recognized achievements in college, all the while he is attempting to fulfill the fatherly role of his household for his mother and his siblings.

Unstoppable represents Jerome's biggest role to date. He first broke out as a member of the ensemble of Moonlight, 2016's Best Picture winner, and joined the ever-expansive Spider-Verse world in 2023, voicing Miles G. Morales in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's final scene. He is set to have a pronounced role in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Unstoppable Review: Jennifer Lopez Lifts Amazon's Predictable Sports Movie
Image
The following contains spoilers for Unstoppable, now streaming on Prime Video.

“Dreamers are only as big as the dreams they chase," Judy Robles tells her son, future wrestling champion Anthony Robles, in Unstoppable. That's the underlying message behind the Prime Video movie, which stars Jennifer Lopez as Judy and Jharrel Jerome as Anthony. With the cast also including Don Cheadle, Bobby Cannavale from Amazon's thriller Homecoming and Michael Peña, the film has a little more going for it than the countless other feel-good sports movies.

On paper, Unstoppable is as archetypal a sports film as one can expect. It relies on some common tropes and editing tricks, and cannot keep from throwing unnecessary drama into its earthy narrative. In practice, however, it's a respectable example of both the modern biopic and the underdog sports story, and a surprisingly tender tribute to both Anthony Robles and his family. Audiences who enjoy...

‘Unstoppable’ Director William Goldenberg on Making the Transition from Editing
Image
William Goldenberg has been working as an editor for over 30 years, during which time he has collaborated with A-list directors like Michael Mann, Kathryn Bigelow, and Ben Affleck, whose “Argo” won the Oscar for best editing. Yet when the time came to direct his first feature, the inspirational sports drama “Unstoppable,” there was still one thing made Goldenberg apprehensive: working with actors.

“That was the thing I was most nervous about,” Goldenberg told IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “Luckily for me, I got my first choice for everybody, and they’re all spectacularly good actors, so it’s not like I’m taking a first-time actor and trying to mold the performance. It was about making sure we’re all making the same film, that we all have the same goals and are trying to interpret the scenes in the same way.”

Goldenberg quickly realized that there was a direct...
