5 great shows to watch if you like Loki
Image
Loki is one of those shows that can’t quite fit into one genre. Yes, it’s a Disney Plus series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it is so much more than that.

The TV series includes time travel, alternate worlds, saving universes, and so much character development that it’s hard to find something just as good. This is a story where the villain becomes the hero, continuing a journey started before his death.

With the series now seemingly at an end, there’s no doubt that you want to find something else to watch. Here are five great shows to check out next, and not all of them are Marvel!

The series aired for two seasons and 31 episodes, originally debuting in 2022.

Lee has also starred in shows like the critically-acclaimed AMC series “Kevin Can F*** Himself,” appearing in the series regular role of Sam, as well as the Alan Ball HBO series “Here and Now.” His other TV credits include “Made for Love,” “Prodigal Son,” “Mozart in the Jungle,” and “Scandal.”

4 NBC shows were canceled in 2024 (with another moving to Peacock)
Image
We know not all shows will make it through a year, but that doesn’t mean we have to be happy about cancellations. NBC opted to cancel four shows in 2024, and another one is on the move to a streaming platform. Let’s take a look back at what we won’t watch in 2025.

The 2023–2024 TV season was certainly an odd one. With the writers strike and then the actors strike throughout the summer and fall of 2023, it made it much harder to get our favorite shows back. Most of them were held for the midseason, but others were able to get fall slots.

You would think that the fall slots would allow for a success. Sadly, that wasn’t the case for one series in particular. Meanwhile, another was canceled even before the strike action started, but didn’t officially end until 2024.

6 broadcast TV cancellations in 2024 we're still salty about
Image
Some cancellations always hurt more than others. That was certainly the case for the broadcast TV shows in 2024. We are still salty about some of those decisions.

We know that some TV shows have to come to an end. The writing is usually on the wall for some of them. The linear ratings are down, or the show just isn’t getting great reviews. However, this year, there were some cancellations that were completely unjustified. Or we lost great shows that just didn’t have the chance to find their audiences.

We’re taking a look back at 2024 and the TV cancellations that hurt the most. We’re not just sad; we’re salty. This is for broadcast only. There are some streaming cancellations that I absolutely hate!

Not Dead Yet

There are very few comedies on TV now. This year has seen a few hits on NBC, but other networks have struggled.

New Terminator Series' Time Travel Was Inspired by Quantum Leap
Image
SkyNet isn't done yet. The monstrous AI will terrorize the time stream again in a new Terminator comic. This time around, the genocidal robots have a surprising inspiration. During an interview with Dynamite Entertainment, writer Declan Shalvey spoke about his inspiration for his new comic, The Terminator. Set across space and time, the story features a desperate SkyNet sending various Terminators to kill the ancestors of the resistance. In that vein, Shalvey compared the tale to Quantum Leap, the '90s series starring Scott Bakula:

Once I was asked if there was a license I'd like to do, what would it be? And my answer was Quantum Leap, because I love that show. And I realized the other day that actually I'm kind of doing that with Terminator, except it's Quantum Leap from hell. And that's just interesting, the one thing I'd like to do I've kind of made it into something else.

Quantum Leap: Why the Cancelled Sci-Fi Series Isn't Moving to Peacock Like Law & Order: Organized Crime
Last month, NBC cancelled Quantum Leap after two seasons, and many are wondering why the series was not moved over to Peacock, like Law & Order: Organized Crime. The procedural drama is moving to the streaming service for its fifth season instead of remaining on NBC.

Raymond Lee, Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, Nanrisa Lee, Eliza Taylor, and Peter Gadiot starred in the Quantum Leap series, which follows Ben Song (Lee) as he relaunches the Quantum Leap project and finds himself traveling through time much like his predecessor Sam Beckett did in the original series.

Quantum Leap Star Ernie Hudson Reacts To NBC Show's Cancellation After 2 Seasons
Image
Ernie Hudson is disappointed that Quantum Leap had to end so soon. Hudson loved working alongside the cast and felt that the show provided him with stable and ongoing work. The Quantum Leap revival was canceled after two seasons, leaving the entire cast shocked by its sudden ending.

Ernie Hudson has much to say about the surprising cancelation of Quantum Leap. The show premiered in 2022 as a revival of the hit 1989 show. It starred Raymond Lee as Dr. Ben Song, a scientist left leaping across time as he desperately tries to find a way to stabilize his leaps. Hudson played Herbert "Magic" Williams, the man in charge of the Quantum Leap project. The show ran for just two seasons before its cancelation.

Since Quantum Leap season 3 was canceled, the cast has slowly been offering their own opinions about the show's ending. In an interview with Screen Rant's Owen Danoff about Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,...

Why ‘Organized Crime’ Is Moving to Peacock & Canceled ‘Quantum Leap’ Isn’t
Image
NBCUniversal organized a move from NBC to Peacock for Law & Order: Organized Crime, but that’s one leap that Quantum Leap isn’t making. Last month, Quantum Leap fans learned that NBC had canceled the sci-fi drama after two seasons, bringing Dr. Ben Song’s (Raymond Lee) time-traveling adventures to an end. And last week, Organized Crime followers learned the Law & Order spinoff would be moving from NBC to Peacock for Season 5, meaning Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) will be solving cases (and perhaps swearing up a storm) in streaming. Now Jeff Bader, President of Program Planning Strategy at NBCUniversal Entertainment, has revealed why Quantum Leap didn’t get the Peacock treatment like its former network sibling. “Organized Crime is a very successful show; this isn’t a show that was on the bubble,” Bader told TVLine in a new interview. “It’s a show that works across the board,...

Why I'm So Disappointed Quantum Leap Was Canceled Before Season 3
Image
Warning! Spoilers for Quantum Leap's season 2 finale!

Quantum Leap was canceled by NBC more than a month after its season 2 finale. The cancelation was due to declining ratings, despite the potential for a strong third season. The series' cliffhanger ending left many disappointed as it set up intriguing story possibilities for future seasons.

The cancelation of Quantum Leap after its season 2 finale is disappointing due to the lost story potential, with the series setting up new, exciting ideas that would amplify the premise. A revival of the original 1989 show by the same name, Quantum Leap follows Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee), who replicated the experiments done by Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula). This causes him to become untethered to the present, replacing people from the past as he tries to simultaneously get back home and assist those around him.

The series premiered in 2022 and was written by Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt,...

Image
NBC has chosen to officially cancel the Quantum Leap revival series after only two seasons, marking the second time the franchise has ended a TV show with a frustrating cliffhanger. Among those who are feeling disappointed are the main stars of the series, Raymond Lee and Caitlin Bassett.

After the news broke, Raymond Lee took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the unfortunate revelation. The actor took the high road by focusing on the positives of the situation, noting how "proud" he is of the two seasons that were made along with how appreciative he is of the "awesome friends" he's made. He also expressed some hope that these characters may get more closure one day if the franchise somehow gets revived by another team in the future.

‘Quantum Leap’ Revival Officially Canceled by NBC!
Image
Back in 1989, the original Quantum Leap sci-fi series was one of the more popular shows on TV. Created by Donald P. Bellisario, the series consisted of a total of 97 episodes spread through five seasons. The original show starred Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. Bellisario revived the show in 2022, setting it 30 years after the end of the original series. The series ran for two seasons (31 episodes in total) on NBC, and we are sad to report that the series has now been canceled after two seasons on NBC.

This news doesn’t really come as a major shocker to anyone, as the series had been on the bubble ever since its two-hour season finale that aired on February 20, 2024. In contrast to this, the series had been renewed for a second season in December 2022, while the season was still being broadcast.

The new series starred Raymond Lee as the new lead protagonist Dr.

Quantum Leap canceled by NBC after two seasons
Image
Has Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee) made his final leap? It would appear so, as Deadline has reported that NBC has canceled Quantum Leap after two seasons. The series had been on the bubble, so the news isn’t a complete surprise, but it’s sure to be disappointing for fans.

The follow-up to the original series takes place nearly 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now, a new team, led by physicist Ben Song (Lee), has been assembled to restart the project. Everything changes, however, when Ben makes an unauthorized leap into the past, leaving the team behind to solve the mystery of why he did it. The second season finale aired on February 20th. While it wasn’t written to be a series finale, Quantum Leap showrunners Martin Gero and Dean Georgaris hoped it could provide some closure while also setting the stage for new stories.

'Quantum Leap' Reboot Canceled by NBC After Two Seasons
Image
NBC has canceled the reboot of Quantum Leap after just two seasons.

The new series, starring Raymond Lee as physicist Dr. Ben Song, served as a follow-up to the 1989 series of the same name.

The season two finale aired back in February and it will now serve as the series finale as well.

The show’s co-showrunners Martin Gero and Dean Georgaris previously confirmed that the season two finale was not intended to be a series finale, but they had written it in a way to wrap up the storylines that had been followed in the season.

“When we got the early renewal for Season 2, we knew we were not going to end it on a cliffhanger,” Georgaris told Deadline. “We were going to end it on the first scene from Season 3, and we’re going to end it with the two characters together, but in a way that you never expected.

Quantum Leap Sequel Series Gets Canceled After Two Seasons at NBC
Image
Bad news has been revealed for fans of the Quantum Leap sequel series at NBC. It has just been revealed that the network has pulled the plug on the series after a two-season run, following the second season wrapping on NBC in February.

The news was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter on Friday. Reportedly, the show was one of the lowest-rated scripted originals on NBC, and this most likely played the biggest part in the show getting canceled. Even so, some fans may still be shocked to hear about the renewal, and this is bound to be disappointing for those who've been watching. Of course, it's always possible that the series could be saved by moving to another network or streaming service, but it's not yet clear if the show will be shopped around, or if this is truly the end.

‘Quantum Leap’ Canceled at NBC After Two Seasons
Image
“Quantum Leap” has been canceled at NBC after two seasons, Variety has confirmed.

The show served as a followup to the 1989 show of the same name starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. The revamped version starred Raymond Lee as physicist Dr. Ben Song, whose attempt to restart the Quantum Leap project pioneered by Dr. Sam Beckett leads to him being trapped in different people’s lives in the past just like Beckett. As he seeks to put right what once went wrong in those lives, he “leaps” to different lives while hoping that each leap will be the leap home.

The cast of the series also included Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee. Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt developed the series and served as executive producers alongside Martin Gero via Quinn’s House, Dean Georgaris, Deborah Pratt, Chris Grismer, and Alex Berger. Why One Quantum Leap Season 2 Character Death Was Important (Even If It Was Reversed)
Image

Jenn's death in the Quantum Leap season 2 finale was important due to her security role and the need for risk. Showrunner Martin Gero says she was chosen for the impact and danger, knowing she would be brought back. Gero clarified that Jenn's death was selected strategically as the show values the core cast.

Quantum Leap showrunner Martin Gero has opened up about why a major character death in season 2 was important, even if it did get reversed. Quantum Leap Season 2 Ended With a Bang! What's Next for Ben and Friends?
Raymond Lee in Quantum Leap (2022)
Quantum Leap's action-packed, double-episode finale was a fitting end to a season that was heavy on explosions, paradoxes, and the 1970s.

Perhaps to make up for a second season that stumbled at times in its pacing, the finale kicked things into overdrive with non-stop action set pieces and bombshell revelations.

So! Let's dig into what happened this season, where it left, and what it all means for Ben and the rest of the Quantum Leap team.

The majority of Quantum Leap Season 2 took place in or around the 1970s, but the episodes featuring Hannah moved beyond that decade and were almost cinematic in their look, feel, and subject matter (Aliens in New Mexico! Nazis at Princeton! Spycraft in Cairo!).

Ben and Hannah may not have enjoyed much time together during his leaps, but they more than made up for that in adrenaline.

The finale finally brought together this season's...

Quantum Leap's HQ Team Talks Geekiness, Daring to Hope, and Loyalty
Raymond Lee in Quantum Leap (2022)
When Quantum Leap returned to television in 2022, the difference noted immediately between Dr. Ben Song's and Dr. Sam Beckett's adventures was their support team.

Where Sam had only Al Calavicci as his holo-guide, Ben enters the accelerator knowing a team of friends (and one secret conspirator) has his back.

Having that team -- specifically, computer specialist Ian Wright, Security Chief Jenn Chu, and team leader Herbert "Magic" Williams -- has imbued the new series with a life and tone all its own.

Speaking exclusively with TV Fanatic over Zoom, the actors who play the HQ Trio -- Mason Alexander Park, Nanrisa Lee, and Ernie Hudson -- open up about their personal connections to the show and how Quantum Leap Season 2 adds depth and nuance to their characters and the narrative.

When TV Fanatic spoke with Ernie Hudson before the series premiere, we asked about his own history with the franchise.
