Tell Me Lies star most likely won't be back in season 3 for this reason
Image
The season finale of Tell Me Lies season 2 came out back in October 2024, and you know we're itching to get more of our favorite toxic romance drama. That's a bit of a weird way to phrase things. But if you watch the show, you know! Thankfully, Hulu didn't make us fans wait too long to find out the show's future.

A couple of months later in December last year, it was made official that Tell Me Lies season 3 is coming back and the series had been renewed! Since then, we unfortunately haven't gotten many updates. It's not really clear when the cast will even start filming or whether they have started rolling the cameras on the next chapter of this story yet.

We do expect the main cast to reprise their roles, including Grace Van Patten as Lucy, Jackson White as Stephen, Sonia Mena as Pippa, and more. But, there...

What Happened To Drew In Tell Me Lies?
Image
This article contains discussions of addiction and mental health.

The Hulu original series "Tell Me Lies," which is based on a novel of the same name by Carola Lovering, mainly focuses on the extremely toxic romance between Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White) and Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) across two timelines, with the two doomed lovebirds meeting at Baird College in upstate New York in 2008 and reuniting at a mutual friend's wedding in 2015. Still, the show, helmed by showrunner Meagan Oppenheimer, does a great job of splitting its focus in ways that always feel natural. Despite the fact that it centers around Stephen and Lucy, everyone in their periphery has problems of their own.

That's where Drew Wrigley (Benjamin Wadsworth), the younger brother of Mike Wrigley (Spencer House), comes in. Before coming to Baird, Stephen was involved with a girl named Macy (Lily McInerny), who dies in a car accident during...

10 Best TV Shows Like Tell Me Lies
Image
It's been a strong year for Hulu, between their continued success with shows like "Only Murders in the Building" and "The Bear," as well as new hits like "Shōgun" and "Paradise." However, one original Hulu series that may have flown under the radar of most viewers is "Tell Me Lies," a drama series that premiered back in 2022 and returned for its second season in 2024. It might be the perfect new series to binge-watch if you can't find a movie to watch on Hulu right now, but its 18 episodes might be not enough for fans.

"Tell Me Lies" stars Grace Van Patten and Jackson White as two college students who fall in and out of love over the span of eight years. Based on a 2018 novel by Carola Lovering, the series has been lauded by critics for its performances, nuanced portrayal of toxic relationships, and its modern take on romantic drama.

Why Lucy Albright From Tell Me Lies Looks So Familiar
Image
Hulu's original series "Tell Me Lies" became a huge and somewhat unexpected hit after its first season released in 2022, and that's probably because its story of a deeply toxic college relationship is just so universal. Based on Carola Lovering's book of the same name and adapted by Meaghan Oppenheimer (who previously worked on "Fear the Walking Dead" and "Queen America"), "Tell Me Lies" splits its timeline in two, telling the twisted "love" story of Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White), who meet at Baird College in upstate New York and carry on an on-again, off-again relationship that ends up creating plenty of collateral damage. In 2008, Stephen and Lucy are carefree students at Baird, but in 2015, they're trapped together at a wedding ... and it's clear that things aren't quite finished between them.

Van Patten, like her co-star White, comes from a Hollywood family (White is...

Teen TV Migrates to Streaming While Shows Embrace Diversity to Talk to Gen Z
Image
Networks like the CW, Freeform and Fox were once a treasure trove of teen TV, with slates packed with series like “The O.C.,” “Gossip Girl,” “Pretty Little Liars” and “90210.” But as younger audiences completely shun linear, these networks have largely abandoned teen programming.

Ratings for the CW and Freeform, two networks that used to be teen-centric, dropped 30% and 22%, respectively, from 2022 to 2023.

Today streaming is a haven for YA programs viewers once found on network TV. Prime Video tested the waters with series like “The Summer I Turned Pretty” while Netflix produced young audience movies like “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” Now both streamers have bolstered their teen slates with Prime Video’s recent reboot of ‘90s cult classic “Cruel Intentions” and Netflix’s series “My Life With the Walter Boys,” “Heartstopper,” “Sex Education,” “Xo Kitty” and “Ginny and Georgia.”

Max also joined the fray with a focus...

The state of television has become so vast that finding a true gem is a little like finding a needle in a haystack. Every studio has its platform, and not all platforms fire on all cylinders. At first glance, the college drama may seem like a typical romance that is not everyone's cup of tea. In reality, it is so much more.

Tell Me Lies Season 3: Cast, Story & Everything We Know
Image
Hulu's steamy college romance drama Tell Me Lies returned for its long-awaited second season in 2024, and fans will return to Baird College for season 3 soon. Based on Carola Lovering's eponymous novel, the series chronicles the turbulent relationship between Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and older student Stephen (Jackson White), as they both attend the fictional Baird College in Upstate New York in 2007. A dysfunctional romance for the ages, Lucy and Stephen's relationship is anything but stable, and the meat of the series is the ups and downs of their toxic coupling.

Season 2 continues the tale of star-crossed lovers, and they are on the outs following Stephen's shocking betrayal in the season 1 finale of Tell Me Lies. Though they aren't together in the sophomore outing, Lucy and Stephen can't stay away from each other and engage in a battle of emotions. Hulu Series With 75% Rotten Tomatoes Score Gets Season 3 Renewal
Image
A popular Hulu series has been renewed for season 3. The streaming platform, which debuted in 2007, was originally developed as a service for watching recent episodes of traditionally broadcast series online. While this aspect of the platform's original intent remains to a certain degree, thanks to their partnership with FX, they have since begun to operate as a more typical streaming service, offering licensed movies and television shows alongside original programming. The platform is now owned by Disney and their library features a great deal of crossover with Disney+.

It wasn't until 2011 that Hulu original series began to debut on the platform, followed by original scripted shows in 2012. Over the years, they have debuted many shows that were both critical and commercial successes. This includes the Margaret Atwood adaptation The Handmaid's Tale, which has won 15 Emmys and two Golden globes, the restaurant dramedy The Bear, which has 21 Emmys and four Golden Globes,...

'Tell Me Lies' Renewed for Season 3 By Hulu, Showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer to Return!
Image
Tell Me Lies has officially been renewed for a third season at Hulu after rumblings that it would be happening soon!

Executive producer Meaghan Oppenheimer will continue on as showrunner. Fun fact: Meaghan is married to Tom Ellis, who starred as Oliver in season 2.

Season two also starred Grace Van Patten, Jackson White, Cat Missal, Spencer House, Sonia Mena, Branden Cook, and Alicia Crowder, among others. We anticipate the main cast will all be back for season three, though nothing has been confirmed by Hulu at this time.

Season Two of Tell Me Lies picked up as Lucy Albright (Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (White) return to college, not speaking after their dramatic breakup at the start of summer. Yet, while very much at odds, they find themselves in a new version of their addictive dynamic – which is as infuriating as it is inescapable. Meanwhile, the story expands deeper into...

‘Tell Me Lies’ Renewed for Season 3 at Hulu
Image
“Tell Me Lies” will be back for another season at Hulu, and that’s the truth.

The soapy college-set drama series has been renewed for a third season, Hulu announced on Thursday, with showrunner and EP Meaghan Oppenheimer remaining at the helm.

First premiering in September 2022, “Tell Me Lies” tells the twisted love story between Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White), which extends years past their college graduation into another timeline eight years later. Season 2 picked up after their dramatic breakup at the end of summer and saw the pair fall into a new toxic dynamic as exes, while also following the relationship woes within their friend group.

Season 2 also added “Gossip Girl” actor Thomas Doherty as a love interest for Lucy, as well as “Lucifer” star Tom Ellis as Oliver, a married professor who becomes intertwined with the group through his relationship with Bree (Missal...

‘Tell Me Lies’ Renewed for Third Season at Hulu
Image
Hulu is going deeper into the tangled web of Tell Me Lies.

The streamer has ordered a third season of Tell Me Lies, which follows the twisted/toxic romance between two people (Grace Van Patten and Jackson White) in their college and young adult years. The renewal comes about two months after season two ended on a cliffhanger. Meaghan Oppenheimer, who created the series based on Carola Lovering’s 2018 novel, will continue as showrunner.

Like most streamers, Hulu doesn’t release detailed viewing data about its programming. However, it notes that Tell Me Lies remained in the on-screen “Top 15 Today” list for more than 50 consecutive days during and after its season two run.

Following the season two finale, Oppenheimer told The Hollywood Reporter that she wasn’t sure whether a third season was in the offing — but if it ended up not happening, she’d be Ok with leaving some...

‘Tell Me Lies’ Renewed For Season 3 By Hulu, Creator Meaghan Oppenheimer Inks Overall Deal With 20th TV
Image
Hulu has handed a Season 3 renewal to Tell Me Lies, its popular drama series starring Grace Van Patten and Jackson White and produced by 20th Television. Additionally, Tell Me Lies creator, executive producer and showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer has signed an overall deal with 20th TV, a part of Disney Television Studios.

The pickup comes a little over two months after the release of the Season 2 finale, which, just like the Season 1 closer, ended with a cliffhanger twist that threatens to tear the friend group apart.

Why Stephen DeMarco From Tell Me Lies Looks So Familiar
Image
In the Hulu original series "Tell Me Lies" — adapted by Meaghan Oppenheimer from Carola Lovering's book of the same name — lead Jackson White is saddled with a difficult task: he has to play the worst boyfriend anyone's ever had. As a student at the fictional Baird College (located somewhere in upstate New York) who dreams of becoming a lawyer, White's character Stephen DeMarco is odious right from the very beginning ... and his worst qualities are out in full force as he pursues freshman Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten). Early in the show's first episode, "Tell Me Lies" establishes not one but two timelines; in 2008, Stephen and Lucy attend Baird and carry on a fraught on-again, off-again relationship, and in 2015, a grown-up Lucy and Stephen are stuck attending the wedding of their friends Bree (Catherine Missal) and Evan (Branden Cook), desperately trying to avoid one another.

So where have you seen White before?...

Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 7 Spoilers: Michael Emerson Makes The Switch From Evil To Elsbeth
Image
It will be a family affair in the next episode of Elsbeth. It’s excellent news for Carrie Preston because who doesn’t love working with their spouse, especially on a show as fun as Elsbeth?

That’s right. Everyone’s favorite psycho from Evil, Michael Emerson, is bringing his cold, dead smile to the courtroom. CBS sure does like to keep everything in the Paramount family.

Preston and Emerson are best known for their roles on shows like Elsbeth and Evil, which are not only Paramount+ residents but stem from the same showrunners.

(Michael Parmelee/CBS)

I wasn’t kidding when I called this episode a family affair. Both series have showrunners and married couple Robert and Michelle King’s hands working behind the scenes.

So, with two married couples in front and behind the camera, there’s bound to be a ridiculous amount of entertaining chemistry. Plus, don...

What Happened To Macy In The Tell Me Lies TV Series & Book?
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Tell Me Lies."

A lot of bad stuff happens on the Hulu original series "Tell Me Lies" — helmed by Meagan Oppenheimer and adapted from Carola Lovering's hit novel — and one of the very worst things happens to Macy Campbell (Lily McInerny). A young woman who ends up caught in Stephen DeMarco's (Jackson White) orbit (which is largely troubling because Stephen is terrible to women) and who has a connection to the series protagonist Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) in both the book and show, Macy meets a terrible and tragic fate, and in both narratives, it ends up creating huge consequences for everyone.

"Tell Me Lies," which mostly focuses on the tortured relationship between Stephen and Lucy in the book but devotes plenty of time to the supporting characters on the Hulu show, is pretty dark, and the story of what happens to Macy is no exception.

Tell Me Lies Season 1 Ending Explained (In Detail)
Image
The Tell Me Lies ending concludes with Stephen (Jackson White) shocking Lucy (Grace Van Patten) at two different points in time. Based on the novel by Carola Lovering, Tell Me Lies season 1 is mostly set in 2007-2008. This is during Lucy's freshman year at Baird College in New York while Stephen is a junior. The season is book-ended by Lucy and Stephen, who haven't seen each other in four years, attending the wedding of their friends, Bree (Catherine Missal) and Evan (Branden Cook) in 2015.

The Tell Me Lies ending sees Lucy reeling from the fallout of the letter she anonymously wrote and sent to Baird College's administration, asking them to investigate her roommate Macy's (Lily McInery) car accident death. Lucy and Stephen are mired in their toxic relationship, with Lucy holding the fact that she is "protecting" Stephen because he was in the car when Macy died, while Stephen...

Taking place over the course of one day, Ambulance is a relentless, high-octane roller-coaster that quite literally never slows down but instead throws a number of wild plot, character and story devices at the audience in the midst of the chase.

The plot of Ambulance comes to a head when the diversion leads Danny and Will back to Papi's hideout, where Danny attempts to hand over Papi's share and move on. However, Papi wants to kill both Cam and Officer Zach, as they are now liabilities that have seen his operation. This leads to...

‘Tell Me Lies’: Meaghan Oppenheimer and Tom Ellis Dissect That ‘Heartbreaking’ Season 2 Finale
Image
[Editor’s note: The following interview contains spoilers for the “Tell Me Lies” Season 2 finale.]

In the wake of another delicious and devastating “Tell Me Lies” finale, creator Meaghan Oppenheimer had just one apology to make. “I’m sorry that relationships suck so much,” the showrunner and screenwriter told IndieWire. “I’m very sorry to the audience that it seems like everyone has been so traumatized by their own relationships. It feels like this universal and inescapable thing.”

You wouldn’t know it looking at Oppenheimer and actor Tom Ellis, who married in June 2019 and spoke at length about their experience collaborating on Hulu’s obsession-worthy fall drama. Adapted from Carola Lovering’s novel of the same name, “Tell Me Lies” Season 1 is a murder mystery investigated by way of an especially warped college romance. In Season 2, Oppenheimer exploded that concept to incorporate several new storylines — chief among them, a toxic love triangle that cast her husband as a predatory professor.

Tell Me Lies Season 3's Potential Time Jump Addressed By Showrunner
Image
The possibility of a time jump in Tell Me Lies season 3 has been addressed by series showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer. The Hulu drama, adapted from Carola Lovering's novel, follows Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White) through toxic relationships that span multiple years. The nonlinear narrative structure has balanced two timelines so far, one in 2008 during their college years and another in 2015, where long buried secrets come to light. Tell Me Lies season 3 has not yet been confirmed.

In a recent interview with Variety, Oppenheimer indicated that the next season of Tell Me Lies will likely focus on more events from 2015 rather than the 2008 timeline. She explained that although some of the college storylines will still have a role in the series, the narrative will gradually shift toward the future. Season 3 may also introduce a time jump to move the story beyond the events of the second season's finale.

How Meaghan Oppenheimer Made ‘Tell Me Lies’ the Most Dangerous, Sexy Primetime Soap in Ages
Image
Meaghan Oppenheimer is a Hollywood showrunner with a husband, an infant, three stepkids and a dynastic family polo ranch on the outskirts of Tulsa, Okla. Despite these dignified badges of adulthood, she can still tell you the last time she cried at a bar over a boy.

“It was here, 10 years ago,” Oppenheimer says, taking in the musk of Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood. The beloved local chain of dive bars has been usurped in recent years by Gen Z, looking for cheap well drinks and a staff that won’t call the cops if seven people are vaping under a table. “But I haven’t cried in bars since I got married.”

Thankfully, her memory is long. It’s what powers her sensational Hulu series “Tell Me Lies,” a sexually charged drama about college kids who play the devastating, consequential mind games of “Dangerous Liaisons” atop sheets by Bed Bath & Beyond.

Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “Tell Me Lies” Season 2 finale.

“Tell Me Lies” has come full circle, with its Season 2 finale seeing Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White) back together, and definitely not better than ever.

After Stephen declared his love for Lucy at the end of Episode 7, the finale picks up after the exes hooked up, leaving Lucy in a place so low all she can think to do is reach back out to Leo (Thomas Doherty) and make a plea for them to reconcile. Leo takes her back — and simultaneously Stephen breaks up with Diana (Alicia Crowder) — but their reconnection ends abruptly when Stephen throws his and Lucy’s hookup just hours before in Leo’s face, which arouses out an anger in Leo to beat Stephen bloody.

Left at a standstill, Lucy is pushed back into Stephen’s orbit when, after Drew’s sudden death in the finale,...

[This story contains major spoilers from the season two finale of Tell Me Lies, “Don’t Struggle Like That, Or I Will Only Love You More.”]

As viewers wrap their heads around the season two finale of Tell Me Lies — which saw twist after twist — stars Grace Van Patten and Jackson White are unpacking some of the shocking moments.

Following arguably a more toxic season than the first, the second finale of the hit Hulu series featured tragic, surprising and jaw-dropping moments from beginning to end, including Wrigley’s (Spencer House) younger brother Drew’s (Benjamin Wadsworth) death, Oliver’s (Tom Ellis) open-marriage reveal, Diana’s (Alicia Crowder) orchestrated breakup with Stephen, and Stephen dropping a bombshell on Bree (Catherine Missal) and Evan’s (Branden Cook) wedding day in the 2015 timeline, among others.

‘Tell Me Lies’: Spencer House Breaks Down Season 2 Finale’s Devastating Tragedy
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Tell Me Lies Season 2 finale “Don’t Struggle Like That, Or I Will Only Love You More.”] Tell Me Lies viewers finally found out what happened to Drew (Benjamin Wadsworth) in the Season 2 finale, and our worst fears came true. Drew returned to Baird to check on Wrigley (Spencer House), who’d been struggling with depression. Drew had been avoiding Wrigley’s calls after being kicked out of school last year. Lucy (Grace Van Patten) wrote a letter to the school — to save Stephen (Jackson White) — claiming Drew was responsible for the car crash that killed Macy (Lily McInerny). The brothers reconnected and spent the night drinking at a local bar. When Wrigley popped one of his painkillers, he offered one to Drew, who decided to split the painkillers in half throughout the night. Drew and Wrigley didn’t realize they were time release capsules, so the combination of drinking...

Tell Me Lies Season 2 Finale Review: Don’t Struggle Like That, Or I Will Only Love You More
Image
Let’s get this out of the way now. For anyone who read my review for Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 7, I had no idea someone was actually going to die!

I was as shocked as everyone else! There was so much that happened in this finale that it’s hard to keep track of who’s life is on fire and who’s isn’t.

Suffice it to say, Tell Me Lies Season 2 Episode 8 dropped nuclear bombs on the story. Not everyone is walking away unscathed.

(Disney/Screenshot)

However, there is one character who deserves the title of Mvp of Tell Me Lies Season 2. This girl put in the work, and she came out on top. I can’t wait until Stephen finds out.

‘Tell Me Lies’ Creator Answers Finale Burning Questions, Hints at Season 3 Time Jump and Responds to Leo and Stephen Tattoo Theories
Image
Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from the Season 2 finale of “Tell Me Lies,” now streaming on Hulu.

Season 2 of “Tell Me Lies” came crashing to an end — in both the 2008 and the 2015 timelines. In an attempt to sum up everything that happened: Stephen (Jackson White) and Diana (Alicia Crowder) broke up — an idea she made him think was his doing, but she’d been planning all along to get him away. There was no sadness at all for Stephen, who immediately slept with Lucy (Grace Van Patten). Right after that hookup, Lucy went back to Leo (Thomas Doherty) and slept with him — without even changing her underwear. That tidbit came in hand for Stephen later when he brought up what she was wearing to prove to Leo they’d hooked up hours before and led to Leo punching him repeatedly until his face was unrecognizable.

Then there were Bree...

After watching Jackson White’s Stephen torment Grace Van Patten’s Lucy all throughout the second season of “Tell Me Lies,” Stephen switches up his behavior at the end of Episode 7 in what White calls a “desperate” decision.

Reckoning with whether he’s a good person or not, Stephen turns his attention from Diana (Alicia Crowder) back to Lucy as he arrives at her dorm room and asks her candidly if she knew he was a bad person while they were dating — which she replies “yes” — and if, even still, she loved him then, which she also replies “yes.” He then confesses that he, too, despite knowing the worst things about Lucy, still loves her and makes a proposition for the pair to be together.

“It’s very desperate and guttural,” White told TheWrap of Stephen’s decision to go back to Lucy.
