Exclusive: Beth Iley, an ex-senior development exec at Amazon Canada, is heading to Law & Order Toronto maker Lark Productions.

Iley takes on the newly-created VP, International Series Development post at the Vancouver-based outfit, which also makes the Toronto and Vancouver versions of The Real Housewives.

Based in Toronto, she is tasked with overseeing Lark’s international development and co-production strategy, reporting to President Erin Haskett and VP Scripted Series, Nicole Mendes. As part of Lark’s first-look distribution deal with Universal International Studios (Uis), which is a division of Universal Studio Group, Iley will also work closely with the studio’s scripted team to develop new projects. Uis has a minority stake in Lark.

Comedy series Children Ruin Everything, from Schitt’s Creek’s Kurt Smeaton, has been renewed for a second season at Canadian broadcaster CTV.

The series, which stars Meaghan Rath and Aaron Abrams, will return for a second season with 16 half-hours, up from the eight episodes ordered for the first season.

Production will begin later this spring and the first season of the series will air on Roku in the U.S. later this year.

The half-hour comedy about living with children follows Astrid, played by Rath, and James, played by Abrams, who struggle to find a balance between being mom and dad to two kids and being who they were before offspring. It explores the ways kids can tear down your life and, if you’re lucky, replace it with something you have to admit is pretty okay, too.

In the latest expansion of its original programming slate, Roku has bagged its first non-u.S. title with Children Ruin Everything, from Letterkenny producer New Metric Media.

Commissioned by Bell Media’s CTV in 2020, the series was created by Emmy winner Kurt Smeaton, whose credits include Schitt’s Creek and Kim’s Convenience. It will come to the Roku Channel in 2022.

Children Ruin Everything is “about living with the worst roommates of all: young children,” per the official logline. The show’s lead characters, Astrid and James, look to find a balance between parenting and staying in touch with their pre-parenting selves.

Roku, in another opportunistic programming pickup, will bring comedy series “Children Ruin Everything” to U.S. audiences — streaming for free on the Roku Channel — in an exclusive pact with production company New Metric Media.

The new half-hour comedy is created by Kurt Smeaton and will air on Bell Media’s CTV network in Canada next spring. Under the multiyear deal, Roku will release all eight episodes of “Children Ruin Everything” on the Roku Channel following the full broadcast in the Great White North. Bell Media Distribution is the international rights holder for “Children Ruin Everything” and New Metric Media is the series’ exclusive sales agent.

“Children Ruin Everything” follows the harried parents of two young children as they struggle to hold on to their pre-kid life. The show is produced and developed by New Metric Media (the company behind “Letterkenny”) in association with Bell Media for CTV, with the participation of the Canada Media Fund.

Rath will front the Canadian half-hour series, which comes from Modern Family and How I Met Your Mother exec producer Chuck Tatham and Schitt’s Creek writer Kurt Smeaton. She will also exec produce.

Rath stars as Astrid, a smart, funny, and caring mother who is feeling the pull between returning to work and stay-at-home motherhood. Although she’s more than ready to leave the stained sweatpants and kid scheduling behind to focus more on her career, she also wonders what life would be like with a third child.
