Samara Weaving has carved out a niche for herself in Hollywood as an A-list scream queen by appearing in several recent acclaimed horror movies, including 2024's Azrael. After eight years as an actor, Weaving entered the horror genre with 2017's The Babysitter. Although she has landed dramatic roles in award-winning movies like 2017's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and 2022's Babylon, much of Weaving's filmography involves the horror and thriller genre. Many of her horror movie roles have been well-received by critics and audiences alike, giving her one of the most impressive resumes of any modern scream queen.
The talented actress' horror resume isn't limited to films, as she starred in season 1 of Starz's Ash vs. Evil Dead as Heather, a hiker who has to survive a demonic onslaught with the main characters. Weaving has been on several sides of the horror genre, playing the final girl heroine, a...

Ready Or Not 2 can bring back Samara Weaving back as a Final Girl after her quick death in Scream 6. Weaving's return in a sequel could reverse her Scream fate and showcase her horror skills. If Ready Or Not 2 happens, the sequel will allow Weaving to shine in a prominent role and could open the door for a clever redemption scenario inspired by her Scream character's death.
Samara Weaving was memorably killed as part of Scream 6's opening kill sequence, but that can be fixed in an upcoming horror sequel of hers. The Australian actress was no stranger to the horror genre before appearing in the Scream franchise. Her past work in horror includes Ash vs. Evil Dead, Mayhem, The Babysitter movies, and Ready or Not. The latter was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmakers behind 2022's Scream and Scream 6, explaining Weaving's cameo role, where...

Welcome to the Ghostface Glossary, a guide to every horror reference and nod throughout all six films in the Scream franchise thus far. Click the link to see previous articles.
After a lot of pausing, rewinding, and zooming in, as well as researching, we’re catching all of the many horror-specific references Williamson, Craven, and Co. included in this beloved postmodern slasher franchise. If we’ve forgotten any glaring ones, kindly let us know.
“Who gives a fuck about movies?!”
“Forget about the movies— the movies don’t matter.” Jason Voorhees, Patrick Bateman, Frank Zito. Now Ghostface. New York City may be the most exciting city in the world, but it can also be one of the scariest, and it was only a matter of time before Scream migrated from sleepy Woodsboro to the East Coast, giving much-needed kinetic energy and gritty set pieces to the long-running, postmodern slasher franchise.

This article contains major Scream VI spoilers.
Screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are somewhat superstitious. This is not to say the pair of scribes believe in things like spirits, jinxes, or Bigfoot. But when it comes to collaborating on the script for a beloved franchise, they refuse to tempt fate by discussing what their plans for the next one might be. Instead they treat each film, be it 2022’s Scream (aka Scream 5) or last month’s Scream VI, like potentially the last word on its series. For that reason, they didn’t even begin swapping ideas on VI until the project was greenlit and the pair were having their first story meeting.
So imagine their surprise, then, that as Busick began explaining his wild idea for the opening Scream VI kill—which involved the immediate unmasking of Ghostface after he finishes butchering a poor associate film studies professor...

Ghostface from the Scream franchise is a unique horror movie killer as new characters take on the persona with every Ghostface kill count differing. The reveal of who is behind the Ghostface mask is a big moment in every Scream movie, and it often turns out that there is more than one killer. That makes it fun to determine every Ghostface kill count separately and see which of the killers was the deadliest of all.
There are six films in the Scream franchise so far with but 13 Ghostface killers altogether. Aside from Scream 3, each entry had two killers that worked together to terrorize Sidney and murder everyone around her. As such, it can be messy trying to figure out who kills who in each film. By looking at the framing of scenes, their sequential order, and some clever filmmaking choices, it is possible to give a somewhat accurate count of each killer’s victims.

Despite its New York City setting, much of Scream 6 wasn't actually filmed in the Big Apple. The sixth installment of the Scream franchise left Woodsboro, where Scream 5 took place, and headed across the country for NYC, where Tara Carpenter and her friends attend Blackmore University. Setting the film in a huge city set it apart from all the other films. While not every Scream film took place in Woodsboro, none have set themselves in such a lively location. The large landscape allowed the franchise to reinvent itself as Ghostface could be hiding anywhere in the city, ready to attack when necessary.
One of the best scenes of Scream 6 was when Mindy Meeks-Martin gets attacked on the subway. It showcased the chaos of New York City and how most New Yorkers are unconcerned with what's going on around them. As Mindy panicked over the many Scream Ghostface costumes crowding the subway,...

Warning: Spoilers lie ahead for Scream 6!
Though propped up as a new final girl by the very same directors, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett reveal Scream 6 star Samara Weaving loved flipping her Ready or Not role. Weaving previously worked with the directing duo on the 2019 dark horror comedy and returned for the latest installment in the slasher franchise as film professor Laura Crane. Unlike her prior film, however, Weaving met her demise in Scream 6's opening at the hands of Tony Revolori's film student Jason, a fake-out for the typical Ghostface opening kill.
In honor of the film's recent release, director collective Radio Silence caught up with Fangoria to break down Scream 6. When asked about the film's opening, which saw them reunite with Ready or Not star Samara Weaving to kill her off, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett revealed that writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick specifically...

Warning: spoilers ahead for Scream 6.
Scream 6 did not keep its murders PG though some were more brutal than others. The sixth film went bigger with five Ghostface killers amid the New York City landscape. The first two killers were revealed as film students Jason Carvey and his friend Greg who plotted to murder their professor. However, they were soon murdered by another Ghostface, who at the end of the film was revealed as Detective Bailey working with his children Quinn Bailey and Ethan Landry.
Detective Bailey's other son was Richie Kirsch, the Scream 5 killer and Sam's boyfriend. Sam killed Richie out of self-defense in the previous film, and to avenge his death, the detective went after her with his family. Like all Ghostface killers, he didn't succeed, and his, Quinn, and Ethan's death were three of the many brutal murders that occurred throughout Scream 6.

This post contains spoilers for "Scream VI."
With Radio Silence (Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin) at the helm, the latest entry in the ongoing "Scream" saga goes for broke with a new setting and the most vicious iteration of its masked killer to date. When he isn't flaying bodies or shooting up a bodega, Ghostface is plotting an elaborate ruse to trap our heroes inside a hidden shrine. There's just something different about this Ghostface; even his sense of humor is unfamiliar.
With its rug-pulling opening, visceral brutality, and grittier tone, "Scream VI" often doesn't feel like a "Scream" movie. Still, as with every installment, the film is as much about cutting wit as it is bloody setpieces. In this chapter, Gillett and Bettinelli-Oplin delight with situational humor and ironic conversations while pouring the gore on thick. It's not "Scream 3"-level camp, but rather "Scream 2" with a straight-laced edge.

Warning: This story contains major spoilers for “Scream VI,” in theaters now.
Anytime a “Scream” movie drops, it’s safe to assume fans want to see it multiple times, especially to catch all the Easter eggs. The sixth movie, written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick and directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, picks up plenty of threads from the last film.
This time, Tara (Jenna Ortega) enrolls in college in New York City, attempting to leave the past in the past. Making it hard is her overprotective sister, Sam (Melissa Barrera), who struggles to move forward since the internet is convinced she actually orchestrated the last killings. Along with Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), “Scream VI” also marks the return of Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin and “Scream 4” survivor Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), who now works as an FBI agent and comes to New York after hearing about Ghostface’s return.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Scream 6!
Scream 6 explored new territory that the first five films never touched, one of them being a record number of Ghostfaces in one movie. One thing that sets Scream apart from other slasher franchises is that most Scream films have more than one killer, and the killer is different every time. Films like Halloween follow the same killer, Michael Myers, as he perpetually goes after Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis.) Scream's concept of several copycat Ghostfaces appearing has allowed the franchise to reinvent itself repeatedly. Scream 5 introduced a new generation, allowing Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) to fill Sidney Prescott's shoes.
This also allows Scream to switch things up constantly. The first two Scream films included two killers working together against Sidney and her friends. However, when the Scream franchise returned for its third film, there was only one Ghostface. The ever-changing Ghostface...

This article contains light spoilers for "Scream VI."
It's 2023, and the threat of spoilers still holds sway over the majority of the moviegoing and TV watching populace. On the one hand, it's not hard to see why this is the case: live commentary and reactions on social media platforms are as rampant as ever, and the disparity of people's viewing habits means that not everyone is able to see the thing at the same time.
However, while understandable, the weight that the whole "spoiler" concept maintains is not a healthy or necessary one. Yes, plot elements can be "spoiled," ruining an idealized first experience with a work. Any worthwhile story, however, should be truly spoiler-proof.
One of the earliest franchises to try and lock down spoilers during its production is the "Scream" series. Although writer Kevin Williamson spent years refining the original script for "Scream" without worrying about anyone revealing who the killers were,...

Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Scream 6!Scream 6 may have proved the biggest opening scene kill theory right, but a major twist still subverted expectations for the trademark sequence. The opening kill scene is one of the biggest moments in every Scream movie, beginning with the unexpected death of movie star Drew Barrymore’s Casey Becker in the original film. Since then, nearly every opening scene has included Ghostface attacking a character portrayed by a popular Hollywood star, including Omar Epps and Jada Pinkett Smith in Scream 2; Liev Schreiber as Cotton Weary in Scream 3; Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell, Lucy Hale, and Shenae Grimes in Scream 4; and Jenna Ortega in Scream (2022), though the latter survived.
Following tradition, Scream 6’s casting of scream queen Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) led to plenty of theories that she would be the major death in the 2023 sequel’s opening scene. Of course,...

After the success of last year’s “requel,” Scream VI has arrived to take this franchise to new storytelling heights, which is no easy feat when you consider what series we’re talking about here. But somehow, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (aka Radio Silence) have pulled off the impossible yet again with their latest entry in the Scream franchise. Not only does Scream VI successfully build upon the storytelling foundation established in last year’s Scream, but it also pushes some tried and true tropes in unexpected ways, provides the new Scream franchise players many opportunities to shine, and also features several jaw-dropping moments of brutality to boot.
