Acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan is reportedly set to make a Hindi remake of Mohanlal’s Malayalam thriller, Oppam, with Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, reports Filmfare. The original Oppam (2016), starring Mohanlal, was scripted and directed by Priyadarshan. It was based on a story by Govind Vijayan. But how many of you knew the film was inspired by two other films, one from Hollywood and another from Hallyuwood (Korea)?

At least, that’s what Wikipedia and other sources claim. And we can’t blame these sources, because Priyadarshan has a history of adapting Hollywood films. To determine whether Oppam was a direct copy or simply inspired, we watched all three films: Oppam, the Hollywood film Cape Fear (1991), and the Korean film Blind (2011). Let’s start our analysis with Cape Fear. Notably, this film doesn’t feature any blind characters.

I’m not averse to remakes: Shiva Rajkumar on starring in ‘Kavacha’
Sandalwood‘Kavacha’ is the remake of the hit Malayalam movie ‘Oppam’ which starred Mohanlal and was directed by Priyadarshan.Digital NativeKannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar is starring in a remake after nearly a decade and a half, and it has his fans and critics intrigued on what made him decide to do it. In a recent interview to the Times of India, the star spoke about starring in Kavacha, which is the remake of the hit Malayalam movie Oppam. When asked about it, Shiva Rajkumar said that though he preferred original scripts, he has never been averse to remakes. The star added that about 30 – 35% of the script was changed to suit Kannada film audiences and he was okay with it. On playing a visually challenged man in the film, the actor said, “When you have to act without any glasses, like I did in Kavacha, it becomes quite difficult. You have to be very sharp.
