'The Reality War' has been. Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor is gone. But if you thought that a regenerating Doctor meant that the world has stopped turning in the Whoniverse, then you are very much mistaken. Right after Doctor Who's explosive Season 2 finale aired earlier this evening, the BBC dropped our first official teaser for hotly anticipated upcoming spin-off series The War Between The Land And The Sea, a new Doctor-less series poured from the pen of Who showrunner Russell T. Davies and A Discovery Of Witches' Pete McTighe. Led by the mercurial talents of Russell Tovey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and main show Unit regulars Jemma Redgrave, Alexander Devrient, and Ruth Madeley, the series looks set to serve up some tense-looking close encounters of the third — and briny — kind. Check out the teaser below and you'll see what we mean;

Though it's been more divisive than ever as of late, Doctor Who fans that are still in love with the show will be eating good this year as not only is Ncuti Gatwa set to return in Season 2 on Disney+, but a new limited spinoff series titled The War Between the Land and the Sea is also set to debut at some point in 2025. Now, ahead of the premiere of both, star Russell Tovey says the big difference between the main show and the new series is that the spinoff feels more like an independent production than anything else.
Speaking with Collider at this year's Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, Tovey called The War Between the Land and the Sea "its own special creation" while discussing the spinoff, which is set to bring back classic Doctor Who villains the Sea Devils for the limited affair. As someone who...

Russell Tovey has been teasing the upcoming Doctor Who spin-off The War Between The Land And The Sea. Find more about his comments below.
The War Between The Land And The Sea, a spin-off miniseries of Doctor Who, was announced last July to much interest. We’ve since heard very little about it, but star Russell Tovey chatted to Variety recently about his role in Carmen Emmi’s Plainclothes. Inevitably, the conversation turned to Doctor Who and what fans can expect from the spin-off.
“It has been one of the most joyful jobs I’ve ever done,” Tovey commented. He also mentioned he loves the character he plays, but wouldn’t expand on who that character might be. The actor previously played Midshipman Alonson Frame in two episodes in 2007 and 2010 respectively.
He did however reveal that the creatures in the series have appeared in the show previously.

Crews have started filming a new sci-fi drama set in the Doctor Who universe. The five-part miniseries, called “The War Between the Land and the Sea,” brings Unit into a conflict with an ancient sea-dwelling species. Showrunner Russell T. Davies revealed details about the project during a recent interview.
The series centers on an international crisis as an old species emerges from the ocean to endanger humanity. Unit, a military organization that investigates alien threats, works to stop the sea creatures. Filming started three weeks ago in Cardiff, Wales and will continue in a single block through December.
Davies explained the challenges of this approach, noting scenes from the first episode may not film until close to wrap. “Normally episodes would divide filming into blocks, but this is one continuous shoot. So an actor’s first appearance could be the last scene of the last episode,” he said. The production...

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies cannot guarantee a third-season renewal but is still hopeful the series will get the green light. The fan-favorite sci-fi show currently stars Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor.
Per GamesRadar, Davies told SFX magazine he does not expect news regarding a third-season renewal until at least after Doctor Who Season 2 airs. "Its an industry decision, it's like any business these things take time. I think the decision will come after the transmission of Season 2. That's what we're expecting, that's what we've always been heading towards," he said. The second season does not have a premiere date yet, but the installment is expected to arrive in early 2025. Gatwa's Doctor will be joined by a new companion, Varada Sethu's Belinda Chandra, in the upcoming season.

The BBC and Disney+'s Doctor Who partnership is well underway. The rebooted series aired earlier this year to mixed reviews; there were superb entries like "73 Yards" as well as more disappointing episodes like "Space Babies." The future of the partnership is up in the air. But at the least, Doctor Who will return for season 2 on Christmas Day, with Ncuti Gatwa in the lead role as the Fifthteenth Doctor. Also, a new spinoff, The War Between the Land and the Sea, has officially entered production.
The Whoniverse has had a number of spinoffs over the years. The most successful ones include the dark and gritty Torchwood and the child-friendly The Sarah Jane Adventures. This latest is the first spinoff produced that's able to access Disney's vast resources. Created by Russell T. Davies, The War Between the Land and the Sea is a Unit-focused show. Doctor Who will tap into its environmentalist history in the new five-part BBC One/Disney+ spinoff announced by showrunner Russell T Davies at Sdcc 2024. The long-rumoured Sea Devils show will concern “a race that lives beneath the oceans,” who awaken to see their underwater home in a perilous state due to humanity’s actions.
“We have wrecked the place,” explained Davies at last Friday’s Hall H Doctor Who panel, “and it is war.”
Fighting that war “on an epic scale” will be Unit, headed up in its current incarnation by Kate Lethbridge Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) and her secret honey/Squad Five colonel Christopher Ibrahim (Alexander Devrient). They’ll be joined by two as-yet-unknown lead characters played by Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, alongside others yet to be announced.

The BBC has confirmed that Doctor Who spin-off The War Between The Land and the Sea will begin filming later this year. Here are the details.
When Russell T Davies came back to Doctor Who, one of the first things he mentioned was the idea of building a Whoniverse, where Doctor Who and associated spin-offs would all come under one banner.
The Whoniverse launched on iPlayer last year, and it included all surviving episodes of Classic Who and every episode of New Who, plus all the spin-offs like Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures and even K-9 and Company. Every episode of Confidential is available to watch, along with a wealth of material from the BBC archive. Tales of the Tardis was a lovely treat too.

Flush with new cash thanks to The Walt Disney Company, Doctor Who is getting another spinoff.
The BBC and Disney+ have ordered The War Between The Land And The Sea, a five-part spinoff series starring Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw alongside existing Doctor Who stars Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient.
The War Between The Land And The Sea focuses on military organization Unit. Per the logline, when a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, Unit steps into action as the land and sea wage war.
Doctor Who showrunner and executive producer Russell T Davies wrote the spinoff with Pete McTighe (A Discovery of Witches) and it features the return of the Sea Devils, classic Doctor Who villains first seen in 1972. It comes after the spinoff was alluded to in the 73 Yards episode,...

Warning: contains spoilers for Doctor Who episode “Dot and Bubble”.
Alongside the Sutekh reveal, the “Rogue” dance, and Ruby’s 73-yards-away mystery woman, any montage of Doctor Who series 14’s most memorable moments would have to include the “Dot and Bubble” ending. The episode five twist made an impact. It transformed “Dot and Bubble” from a comedic satire on the dangers of social media absorption, into a statement on the self-harming ignorance of white supremacy.
Written by Russell T Davies and directed by Dylan Holmes Williams (“73 Yards”), the story was set in Finetime, an off-world colony peopled exclusively by the young, beautiful, and – as made obvious in the final scenes – white. Enormous slug creatures were picking off the airhead population, and though the Doctor wasn’t able to break through the colony’s firewall to help on the ground, he and Ruby coached influencer Lindy Pepper Bean (Callie Cooke) on...

Warning: Contains some spoilers for ‘Dot And Bubble’
For anyone who might’ve found last week’s folk horror-inflected episode of Doctor Who, ‘73 Yards’, a little too ambiguous, you’ll have no such quibbles with the series’ follow-up offering, ‘Dot And Bubble’. A candy-coloured cautionary tale about the perils of tech dependency and online echo chambers set in a world where everybody lives in literal social media bubbles, the fifth episode of Russell T. Davies’ Who reboot is about as subtle as a flatulent Slitheen. But unsubtle doesn’t necessarily mean ineffective, and despite the heavy-handedness of its opening throes, Davies’ Black Mirror-riffing latest eventually builds to a flooring sucker punch of a finale that would stop even Charlie Brooker in his tracks.
After the darkness of ‘Boom’ and the wintry chill of ‘73 Yards’, ‘Dot And Bubble’ sees Davies whisk viewers away to Finetime, a pastel-paletted, domed-in alien idyll populated by rich-kid human colonists.

Warning: contains spoilers for Doctor Who episode “73 Yards”.
Doctor-Lite stories have so far been very good, which raises the possibility that the thing that′s really holding back Doctor Who is Doctor Who.
As you may know, Ncuti Gatwa was finishing filming his last series of Sex Education for Netflix while “73 Yards” was being filmed, and so the episode was pushed onto the array of ′Doctor-Lite′ stories (put simply: ones in which the Doctor doesn′t appear very much). The idea of doubling up the filming of episodes and balancing the cast accordingly has been in place since the show returned in 2005, with it formally being named as a budget-saving strategy in 2007 with “Blink”. They may also be referred to as “double-banking” episodes where two episodes are filmed simultaneously and so the regular cast can’t substantially appear in both.

Millie Gibson this weekend offered her heartfelt thoughts on the Doctor Who episode that stirred opinions in fans of the long-running sci-fi franchise.
The “fifth” episode (including “The Church on Ruby Road”) of “Season 1” (or Season 14) opened with the Doctor (played by Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Gibson) setting foot in Wales, immediately after which the former accidentally stepped his foot on a fairy circle comprised of string, charms and notes. Witchcraft ensued, abruptly disappearing the Doctor and leaving Ruby tethered to a mysterious and spooky af old woman who always stood exactly 73 yards away.

“We waited for the technology to catch up. And the technology has broken us.” So Russell T Davies told the latest edition of Doctor Who Magazine about series 14, episode five “Dot and Bubble”. Tech breaking people sounds fitting for an episode Davies describes as Doctor Who’s “clearest step into Black Mirror territory.”
Set in a colony on an alien planet, “Dot and Bubble” is the story of Lindy Pepper Bean (Callie Cooke), a citizen of the happy, harmonious and social-media-absorbed world of Finetime. When Lindy’s friends start disappearing and mysterious monsters appear to be in operation, will Ruby and the Doctor be able to convince Finetime’s residents of the truth before it’s too late?
The idea for the episode first came to Davies 15 years ago, he told Dwm’s Benjamin Cook. During an LA lunch ahead of the series 11 launch, he pitched it to Steven Moffat,...

A spoiler-free review of Russell T Davies’ Doctor Who episode, 73 Yards. Still don’t read it if you want to know absolutely nothing.
I’ve got a little out of the habit when it comes to writing spoiler-free reviews of Doctor Who. Back in my Den Of Geek days, I was turning these out weekly. These days? Less so, as I get older, and get even more conscious of not wanting to spoil any of an episode for someone.
Still, I’ve read some of the discourse surrounding this current run of Doctor Who, and thought it might be worth jumping back in for Russell T Davies’ latest penned episode, 73 Yards. He’s made the point in interviews building up to the current series of the show that one of the delights with Doctor Who is it can be something new each and every week. If you thought Ruby Sunday's (Millie Gibson) declaration that one of the situations she and The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) find themselves in for Doctor Who's new season is "so Bridgerton" was the only reference to the Netflix period romp, you would be mistaken. Because Queen Charlotte herself, Golda Rosheuvel, is also among the guest stars for the new season.
Rosheuvel will appear in the first episode of the latest run, playing a character named Jocelyn who collides with our dynamic duo. No one’s ever really gone when it comes to a timey wimey show like Doctor Who, including past showrunner Steven Moffat, who is back penning a new episode of series 14. We still know very little about his new story except that it’ll be the third episode of the series, will feature Hitchcock-style suspense, and is the second episode directed by Julie Anne Robinson after the series 14 premiere.
And now add a new detail: the episode’s title, which is simply “Boom.” Sounds explosive, indeed.

“No job. No boss. Just fun.” That was the offer the Fifteenth Doctor made to Ruby Sunday in the Doctor Who series 14 trailer. ‘And’, he should probably have added, ‘quite a lot of mortal peril,’ – but when has the Doctor ever been upfront with companions about the not-insignificant dangers of travelling in time and space? He probably doesn’t even fill in a risk assessment.
We else do we know about series 14? The first episode will arrive on BBC One, iPlayer and Disney+ on a Saturday in May 2024, and there will be eight episodes in total followed by a Christmas Day special. We also know that the currently-filming series 15 will follow in 2025 with a rumoured new companion.
Aside from that, verified info about the new series is summarised below (catch up on the valiant work of the @set_dw account for non-official but useful clues). We’ll update it all...

‘Servant’ Star Nell Tiger Free Talks M. Night Shyamalan’s “Mystical Hold” and Her ‘The Omen’ Prequel
[This story contains spoilers for Servant’s season three finale, “Mama.”]
Servant star Nell Tiger Free, much like her character, gained a family throughout the course of filming the M. Night Shyamalan-produced series.
Free, who’s also known for her tragic turns on Game of Thrones and Too Old to Die Young, plays Leanne Grayson, a mysterious young nanny whose presence or power somehow brings the Turner family’s deceased baby back to life. (Or so we think.) But in the process of making a darkly comedic thriller about a highly dysfunctional family, Free formed a family of her own with the likes of Servant writer-director Ishana Night Shyamalan (M. Night’s middle daughter) and co-leads Toby Kebbell, Rupert Grint and Lauren Ambrose.
With the fourth-and-final season premiere releasing Jan. 13th on Apple TV+, Free is now reflecting on the show’s ending and how it compared to her own speculation.
