Madonna Biopic Movie Gets An Update From Star Julia Garner After Initial Cancellation Reports
Image
The Madonna biopic movie receives an update from star Julia Garner after initial cancellation reports. The project was first announced in 2020 and has gone through two different scripts by Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody and Cressida Wilson. In 2022, the Madonna biopic cast Julia Garner as the pop icon after beating out several stars in an extensive audition process.

The upcoming biopic will be directed by Madonna herself, but in 2023, the project was reportedly scrapped as the singer embarked on her career-spanning world tour. At the time, the project was reportedly no longer in development at Universal, and while Madonna's priority was her tour, she remained committed to making a movie about her life sometime in the future.

Now, during a recent appearance on the SmartLess podcast, co-hosted by her former Ozark co-star Jason Bateman, Julia Garner said the Madonna biopic is "supposed to still happen" despite reports of its cancellation. She...

Image
Legendary film composer Hans Zimmer, known for his dozens of iconic movie scores in films such as The Dark Knight, Dune: Part Two, Top Gun: Maverick, and Gladiator, will provide the soundtrack for HBO's highly anticipated Euphoria season 3.

Beloved Euphoria Star Doubled Down on Season 3 Exit Rumors
Image
Euphoria is one of HBO's biggest shows, but the much-delayed Season 3 will feature a major cast shakeup. The series premiered in 2019 and has yet to confirm a release date for Season 3.

Production on the third and final season was delayed several times, as creator Sam Levinson focused first on his show The Idol, and then wanted to make sure the quality of the final season was impeccable. That led to multiple exits. In a new Instagram Story, per Men's Journal, beloved star Nika King confirmed she is not returning to the show.

King played Leslie Bennett in the first two seasons, Rue and Gia's mother, who struggled with her daughter's addiction. The psychological teen drama follows the lives of several teenagers, and it's centered around Zendaya's Rue. King was an integral part of the show, but she previously confirmed that she will not appear in the upcoming season.

‘Fantasmas’ Emmy Submissions Include Tilda Swinton as Water and Steve Buscemi as the Letter Q
Image
There are certain performances audiences need to see to believe, especially when it comes to the ones on the HBO series “Fantasmas,” from creator, director, and star Julio Torres. For instance, how can one properly describe Steve Buscemi playing the letter “Q,” or Oscar winner Tilda Swinton being the voice of water?

IndieWire has exclusively learned that the current Gotham TV Awards nominee will be submitting for several Emmys categories, including the Outstanding Scripted Variety Series. The actors on “Fantasmas,” however, will still be among the Comedy Series contenders, similar to “Saturday Night Live,” which Torres used to write for. They include Torres for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, breakout star Martine for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, and “Fire Island” star Tomás Matos for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

All three performers are part of the connective tissue of the series, which is...

John Oliver Delivers The “Hot Take” Wbd Was Expecting On HBO Max’s Rebrand, Comparing It To Gulf Name Change: “F— You, Don’t Tell Me What To Do”
Image
John Oliver does have a “hot take” on his home network’s decision to rebrand Max back into HBO Max — but he wants the head honchos at Warner Bros. Discovery to know that was his choice.

As Last Week Tonight addressed president Donald Trump’s antagonistic relationship with the press, he pointed to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s justification for banning the Associated Press from the Oval Office for its editorial decision to keep referring to the Gulf of Mexico as such rather than its renamed “Gulf of America.”

“It’s not as simple as you’re making it out there,” he began, “especially because it can take time for people to adjust to a stupid name change, sometimes, hypothetically, before we could even get used to one dumb name [here the screen flashed a logo of HBO Go], some genius comes along and only makes it dumber [the graphic then replaced HBO Go with HBO Now], then somehow it gets dumber still [a switch to HBO Max], and then against all the odds,...

Madonna Limited Series From Music Legend, Shawn Levy in Early Development at Netflix
Image
A Netflix limited series about music icon Madonna is in early development, Variety has confirmed.

The singer is partnering with Netflix and director Shawn Levy to develop a limited series about her life and music. The show is unrelated to the previous Madonna feature film that was set at Universal Pictures, with Julia Garner attached to star as the singer, before being scrapped in January 2023. It’s unclear which part of Madonna’s life the limited series would portray or who would play the musical legend.

Madonna put the Universal film on pause in favor of embarking on her worldwide “The Celebration Tour” from October 2023 to May 2024, but sources told Variety at the time of the move’s hiatus that “she remains committed to making a film about her life one day.” She co-wrote two drafts of the film’s script with Oscar winner Diablo Cody and Cressida Wilson about...

Barbie Ferreira Says ‘Euphoria’ Exit Was “Mutual Decision”: “I Never Walked Off Set”
Image
With Euphoria finally in production on the long-awaited third season, Barbie Ferreira is addressing the online speculation about her exit from the HBO series.

After announcing her departure in 2022, the actress recently clarified that she “never walked off set,” explaining her decision not to reprise her role as Katherine “Kat” Hernandez in the Sam Levinson series.

“I think instead of me kind of lingering around for nine months, I think it was best for both of us that we just ended it there,” she said on The Viall Files podcast. “Of course it’s hard — I love Euphoria. I love Kat. Kat means the world to me. I spent so many years pouring everything into her, but it’s like, you don’t want to ruin a good thing.”

‘He showed he can play a villain type character’: Zack Snyder Proved Ty Burrell Can Play a Scary Villain but That Is Yet to Happen After ‘Modern Family’ Run
Image
It’s pretty common in hit TV shows or sitcoms for the actor everyone expected to skyrocket to fame to surprisingly fade from the spotlight. Take Euphoria, for example, many thought Alexa Demie was destined for long-term stardom, yet it was Sydney Sweeney who ended up stealing the spotlight.

Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy | Credits: ABC

The same goes for Ty Burrell from Modern Family. While he’s a comedy genius who’s clearly proven his acting skills, he’s rarely ventured beyond comedic roles and has largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent years. So why hasn’t he explored more dramatic or diverse roles post the hit sitcom aired?

Fans miss seeing Ty Burrell on screen, especially the evil Ty Burrell!

Ty Burrell may be best known as the lovable goofball Phil Dunphy from Modern Family, but anyone paying attention could tell from the start, that this guy can act!

Young and Powerful: Industry, Euphoria, and TV’s Ruthless New Young Adults
Image
For decades, young adult television focused on coming-of-age stories — characters figuring out who they are through romance, friendships, and personal growth.

We had the hopeful struggles of Felicity Porter (Felicity) and the aspirational drama of Gossip Girl, where ambition was wrapped in designer clothes and witty banter. But things have changed.

Today’s young adults on TV aren’t just dreaming — they’re fighting, hustling, and sometimes clawing their way to the top. Shows like Industry, Euphoria, and The Bold Type don’t just show ambition — they make it a survival game.

(Courtesy of HBO) A New Kind of Young Adult Protagonist

Let’s be real — today’s young adult characters aren’t just looking for meaning; they’re looking for power.

Industry, HBO’s financial drama, throws us into the world of high finance, where fresh-out-of-college grads are expected to sink or swim. Harper Stern (Myha’la Herrold) isn’t...

Florence Pugh Says ‘Thunderbolts*’ Is an ‘A24-Feeling Assassin Movie with Marvel Superheroes’: ‘It Ended Up Becoming This Quite Badass Indie’
Image
Florence Pugh thinks the upcoming Marvel film “Thunderbolts*” feels less like a major Hollywood tentpole and more like an arthouse indie.

“It ended up becoming this quite badass indie, A24-feeling assassin movie with Marvel superheroes,” Pugh, who plays Yelena Belova in the film, told Empire.

Pugh’s comments are backed by “Thunderbolts*” marketing, which has recently emphasized its cast and creative team’s ties to A24. A new teaser points out Pugh, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sebastian Stan’s roles in A24 films “Midsommar,” You Hurt My Feelings” and “A Different Man.”

The teaser also highlighted “the writers and director of ‘Beef,'” “the editor of ‘Minari'” and “the composers of ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once'” among others.

Director Jake Schreier told Variety at Comic-Con last year that “The goal that Kevin [Feige, president of Marvel Studios] set at the beginning was to go in and try to make this different.

Florence Pugh Thinks ‘Thunderbolts’ Is More A24 Than Marvel: ‘This Quite Badass Indie’
Image
Could Marvel be trying to get in on some of that indie popularity? With Sean Baker’s Neon release “Anora” running away with five Oscars last weekend, including the top honor of Best Picture, big Hollywood studios like Disney may want some of its own fare to have that independent touch. Such is the case it seems for its upcoming entry in the MCU, “Thunderbolts,” starring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Lewis Pullman, Wyatt Russell, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Speaking in a recent interview with Empire, Pugh said of the tone the film “ended up becoming this quite badass indie, A24-feeling assassin movie with Marvel superheroes.”

And while A24 and “Anora” studio Neon are decidedly not “rivals,” as Neon CEO Tom Quinn recently said (Neon instead counts Netflix as their “biggest competitor” for acquisition titles), could Marvel be trying to square off with A24?

Marvel and Disney definitely were...
