1 Wednesday Finale Detail Sets Up A Dead Character Returning In Season 2
Image
Warning! Spoilers for Wednesday season 1!

With Wednesday season 2 confirmed by Netflix, there’s a distinct possibility that a dead character could return. While they can be difficult to spot, shows often try to set up plot points or hint toward future seasons, regardless of whether they are renewed for more episodes or not. While this tactic can be disappointing when a show is canceled, it helps make the seasons of a show that is renewed more cohesive, allowing them to set up and pay off more elements down the line. One example of this could be in Wednesday’s season 1 finale, though it’s so subtle as to be easily missed.

Netflix's Wednesday follows a cast of colorful characters, including the titular Wednesday Adams (Jenna Ortega) in her first semester at Nevermore Academy. While she adjusts to her new surroundings, Wednesday soon finds herself on the hunt to solve a...

Wednesday cast discusses fan theories, confirms we’ll see another Addams family member in season 2
Image
As part of today’s Tudum fan event, the Netflix streaming service has just unveiled a new video that shows Wednesday cast members Jenna Ortega, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, and Hunter Doohan discussing some of the theories fans have come up about season 2 – and while doing so they confirm that we’ll be seeing another familiar member of the Addams family in the new season! They just aren’t able to say exactly who that Addams family member is. The video can be seen in the embed above.

Wednesday is described as a comedic, supernaturally-infused coming-of-age series that follows the teenage girl’s years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the town, and solve a mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new relationships at Nevermore. Wednesday: Jenna Ortega explains why she initially passed on the Netflix series
Image
Once Jenna Ortega was hard at work playing the title character on Netflix’s Addams Family series Wednesday, she became so dedicated to making sure the title character came off just right that she would even change lines from the way they were written in the scripts. But during an interview with the UK’s Times, she revealed that she initially passed on the chance to star in Wednesday.

Ortega told the Times (as reported by Deadline), “I got the email, passed on it. I had done so much TV in my life, all I’ve ever wanted to do is film. I was scared that by signing on to another television show it could prevent me from doing other jobs I really wanted and cared about.“

It was the involvement of Tim Burton, who executive produced the series and directed four of the first season’s eight episodes, that...

Will We See More Gomez In Wednesday Season 2? Luis Guzmán Chimes In [Exclusive]
Image
This post contains mild spoilers for the first season of "Wednesday."

After its first season became a surprise smash hit for Netflix, it's no surprise that more "Wednesday" is already on the way. The streamer has ordered a second season of the goth girl reimagining of "The Addams Family," and while fans wait around, questions about where the show will go next are already beginning to pile up. Will Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) abandon the love triangle and possibly strike up a romance with her roommate and bestie Enid (Emma Myers)? Who started stalking the psychic teen in the finale's final moments? And of course: Will our favorite members of the Addams family make return appearances?

The last question was one /Film's Ryan Scott asked actor Luis Guzmán when he caught up with the "Story Ave" star ahead of that movie's festival premiere this week. Scott asked Guzmán if audiences should...

Wednesday: Jenna Ortega would change lines to stay true to the character
Image
Jenna Ortega, star of Netflix’s hit Addams Family series Wednesday, has previously said she had to struggle with directors on the show who didn’t always trust the approach she was taking to the character. Starting with Tim Burton, who directed half of the show’s first season and didn’t want Ortega to show any expression or emotion at all. Something she didn’t feel would work for a lead character who had to push the plot forward. Now in an interview with Variety, Ortega revealed that she also had to change lines from the scripts because they weren’t true to her character.

Ortega said, “I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down more on a set in a way that I had to on Wednesday. Everyhing that Wednesday does, everything I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all.

Wednesday’s Gomez Addams Casting Controversy Explained – Is He Accurate?
Image
Luis Guzmán stars as Gomez Addams in Tim Burton’s Wednesday series, but whether the actor's appearance is an accurate look for the role is a source of contention. After originally being eyed to direct the 1990s Addams Family movies, Tim Burton finally tackled the cooky characters in Netflix’s Wednesday. Wednesday stars Scream's Jenny Ortega as Wednesday Addams. The coming-of-age series follows Wednesday Addams as a high schooler at Nevermore Academy — Gomez Addams' alma mater — where she masters her psychic powers while solving a supernatural mystery. The Wednesday cast additionally includes Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, George Burcea as Lurch, and Luis Guzmán as the Gomez Addams actor. However, Burton's choice for the Gomez Addams actor wasn't universally well-received.

Ever since Wednesday hit the screens, there has been a divisive response to Guzmán’s Gomez Addams casting. Luis Guzmán is the...

Wednesday: Danny Elfman brought in a partner to help him compose score for episodic TV
Image
Director Tim Burton made his television directing debut by taking the helm of the first four episodes of the Netflix series Wednesday‘s eight episode first season. And when the time came to choose who would provide the music for the show, Burton went with his frequent collaborator Danny Elfman, who had also never worked in episodic TV before (aside from composing themes). Speaking with IndieWire, Elfman discussed the fact that he brought in a partner to help him face the challenge of composing the score for a TV series.

Elfman said, “I brought on a partner, Chris Bacon, to work with me because I’d never done episodic television. I was afraid that there was going to be a learning curve that was going to be kind of crushing. And it was. It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced before, you’re dealing with delivering full scores, almost...

Wednesday: Netflix exec comments on the show’s success & the possibility of a season 2
Image
The Addams Family series Wednesday has turned out to be a massive hit for the Netflix streaming service – in fact, in less than a month of release, it has already become Netflix’s second-most popular English-language series of all time. So there seems to be almost no question that we’re going to be getting Wednesday season 2… Netflix just hasn’t officially ordered it yet. And while speaking to Variety about the show’s success, Netflix executive Peter Friedlander (the service’s head of U.S. and Canada scripted series) still couldn’t confirm if or when that new season order is going to be made.

Friedlander told Variety, “I have nothing to confirm at this time. I am optimistic about Wednesday. We’ll leave it at that. Weirdly, because it feels different, but we’re just two weeks into the launch of Wednesday. So we’re still really at...

Wednesday Pays Tribute To Lurch’s Most Iconic Addams Family Line
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Wednesday season 1!Wednesday season 1 pays tribute to the most iconic line spoken by Lurch in the original Addams Family sitcom. While the kooky characters have been around since Charles Addams’ cartoons in the 1930s, the Addams family truly became a pop culture phenomenon during the original dark sitcom. The series ran from 1964 until 1966, with its iconic gothic premise being adapted again on numerous occasions. Tim Burton’s Wednesday makes it a priority to pay homage to the classic iterations of the Addams Family that came before, including one of the sitcom’s most famous lines spoken by the Addamses’ spooky butler Lurch.

Whenever The Addams Family’s sitcom characters summoned the butler with a bell pull that elicited a loud gong noise, the typically-mute Lurch instantly appeared and remarked in his deep voice, “You rang?” The line has often been repeated often in pop...

Who Plays Lurch In The Wednesday Show?
Image
Tim Burton's Wednesday focuses on the titular member of the Addams Family, but most of the other characters from the iconic comic strip also appear in the Netflix show, including Lurch. While not a blood relative of the Addamses, Lurch is as much a part of the family as the rest. The large, Frankensteinian butler is short on speech but visually unforgettable, and it takes a special sort of actor to fill the role. The performer must be physically imposing, have a deep voice, and convey what he's thinking with little facial expression.

In Netflix's Addams Family show, Wednesday, Lurch is played by George Burcea. While reports of his exact height vary, the actor is only a few inches over 6 feet tall. This would seem a problem for the visual comedy of Lurch's role in the Addams home, but Burcea is a good deal taller than the rest of the main cast.

Wednesday Review: Nancy Drew Meets The Addams Family
Image
This Wednesday review contains no spoilers.

The Addams Family is iconic. Created by Chas Addams, the single panel cartoons debuted in 1938 in The New Yorker magazine. Director Tim Burton is an obvious fanboy, eager to put his unique spin on the family dynamic. The Netflix series Wednesday is an original spinoff. Jenna Ortega plays Wednesday Addams without much family support, the way the character prefers it.

The series opens with the traditional dysfunctional unity. Wednesday protects Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) from bullies because only she is allowed to torture her brother. Her ghastly genius sets the tone immediately. Swimming with piranhas in a school pool is all fun and games until someone loses a testicle. Then it’s a one-way ticket to Nevermore Academy, a place which encourages artful dodgers.

For The Addams Family, a plot is merely a device to hang gags on. Wednesday is a simple story. Girl goes to a new school,...

Jenna Ortega Learned To Play The Cello For Addams Family Wednesday Show
Image
Wednesday Addams actor Jenna Ortega learned the cello for her part in the upcoming series Wednesday. Based on the Addams Family comic strip first published in 1938, Wednesday marks the latest incarnation of media inspired by the gothic and peculiar family. Created by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, and Tim Burton, the Netflix series will deviate from previous Addams Family adaptations by focusing on a teen version of the family's only daughter, Wednesday, and centering the show around her time at a mysterious institution called Nevermore Academy. While appearing in a video for Wired, Ortega discussed her upcoming part in the new series, revealing that her audition with Burton took place over Zoom while still in her death scene make up for the horror film X. The actor also mentioned that she learned the cello for the role of Wednesday,...

‘Wednesday’ Review: Jenna Ortega Makes a Delightful Anti-Heroine in Netflix’s Addams Family Spinoff
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Stepping into a role played indelibly by Christina Ricci in a pair of ’90s features (and, memorably, by Lisa Loring in the classic TV series), Jenna Ortega has no trouble making the eponymous character in Netflix’s Wednesday her own.

Ortega’s Wednesday Addams is the perfectly creepy and kooky accumulation of eight episodes of deadpan line-readings, precise comic physicality and expressive eye-rolls. The character has never needed to face the project-carrying focus of this iteration, but thanks to Ortega’s wildly entertaining blur of arch broadness and subtlety, plus creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar’s refusal to over-explain or over-evolve the eternally nihilistic goth favorite, Wednesday gets to come into her own here. Though the overall series is rarely quite at its leading lady’s level — adjust your expectations for more of an above-average CW dramedy — there are enough promising elements...
