The element of commonality between Anshuman Jha and Divya Menon is that, their debut films (<i>Love, Sex Aur Dhoka</i> and <i>Byomkesh Bakshy</i> respectively) were directed by Dibakar Banerjee. <i>Mona Darling</i>, which has been directed by Shashi Sudigala, will see Anshuman Jha playing the role of a 21-year-old, anti-social computer geek. Speaking about the film, Anshuman Jha said, "Shashi pitched this character to me as a 20-year-old I.T. student who is a cross between Sheldon Cooper & Sherlock Holmes in a whodunit script. As an actor, it's a challenge I was looking forward because it's a detailed character and a fleshed-out screenplay. The script is the hero here. The character is not called Vicky but Wiki as in short for Wikipedia.

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput, accompanied by his female leads from Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, Swastika Mukherjee and Divya Menon, attended the derby at Maha Lakshmi Race Course, in an ever unique way to promote the upcoming detective thriller. The three watched the race and cheered on all the horses and jocks, at the end of the race presenting the winners with their trophies.

This was a one-of-a-kind event as few films are promoted at the racecourse but, given the theme of the film, the racecourse was a perfect backdrop for promotions. The film is set in the pre-independence era (1943) and will feature Sushant Singh Rajput as the famous detective Byomkesh Bakshy. The film has already created quite a stir with extensive and ever-creative pre release activities, and the filmmakers have certainly raised the bar with this project.
