Stealing Pulp Fiction Review — An Uninspired and Dull Ninety-Minute Ride
Image
When it comes to borrowing from other films, quality often determines the verdict—what some might call theft is generously reframed as “homage” or “inspiration.” However, Stealing Pulp Fiction is so overloaded with empty dialogue, hollow style, and shameless nods that it becomes fascinating just how charmless and dull the final product manages to be.

Now, I love a caper. And, I’ll add, I love Pulp Fiction, which changed movies forever. However, this is such an uninspired effort (albeit with good intentions), Stealing Pulp Fiction stretches a thin sitcom premise into an endlessly tedious ninety-minute ride that feels downright terminal.

‘Stealing Pulp Fiction’ Review: A Malformed Homage-Cum-Heist Comedy That Over-Relies on Reference
Image
While upbeat at a distance, self-reflexive heist caper “Stealing Pulp Fiction” seldom translates its good nature through story or style. Danny Turkiewicz’s feature debut follows a pair of best friends in over their heads as they try to steal Quentin Tarantino’s personal 35mm film print of his 1994 indie landmark “Pulp Fiction.” However, malformed comedy and character beats keep the movie feeling like a rough first draft.

With a score that harkens back to the “Pulp Fiction” soundtrack — and to Keith Mansfield’s “Funky Fanfare,” the groovy tune played over tie-dye “Our Feature Presentation” pre-movie title cards in the ’60s and revived for repertory screenings — the film has no dearth of musical in-jokes. However, that’s the extent of its meta-textual prowess, in spite of its ceaseless references to Tarantino.

Paying homage to Hollywood’s own remix maestro is an easy trick for a young director, but “Stealing Pulp Fiction...

Official Trailer for 'Stealing Pulp Fiction' Movie Geeks Indie Comedy
Image
"Low risk, high reward!" Or so they thought... But nope. Tribeca Films has revealed the official trailer for an indie comedy titled Stealing Pulp Fiction, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Danny Turkiewicz. Another one of these meta films about film geeks trying to get involved in cinema by stealing something from another famous filmmaker – because why not. Much like Fanboys before this, and some of Kevin Smith's movies, too. This indie first premiered at the 2024 Newport Beach Film Festival last year, and will be out on VOD to watch this June. The film follows a group of enterprising wannabes and their eccentric therapist as they concoct a plot to steal Quentin Tarantino’s personal 35mm print of his famous 1994 film Pulp Fiction from his movie theater, quickly spirals into a chaotic misadventure with unexpected twists & mishaps. Starring Jon Rudnitsky, Karan Soni, Cazzie David, Jason Alexander, Taylor Hill,...

'Stealing Pulp Fiction' Finally Sets a Release Window
Image
Over the years director Quentin Tarantino has cemented his love for celluloid films. From refusing to shoot on digital cameras, to using film projectors in his own theatres in Los Angeles, the auteur has left no stone unturned to establish his view of film prints as works of art. And theres no cinephile in the world who is not envious of his personal film collection. A new feature film from the first-time director Danny Turkiewicz is set to present his own take on the Kill Bill directors love for cinema in a heist film, Stealing Pulp Fiction, which has announced a release window of early 2025, IndieWire reports.

‘Stealing Pulp Fiction,’ a Heist Comedy About Quentin Tarantino’s 35mm Prints, Sets 2025 Theatrical Release
Stealing Pulp Fiction (2024)
Few filmmakers have used their voices and resources to advocate for the continued use of celluloid film than Quentin Tarantino. His prized film collection is the envy of many cinephiles — to the point where it’s now the subject of a heist film.

IndieWire can exclusively reveal that Giant Pictures has acquired the distribution rights to “Stealing Pulp Fiction,” a new heist comedy from first time director Danny Turkiewicz that follows an ensemble of movie lovers who try to steal Tarantino’s personal print of “Pulp Fiction.” The film, which is set to make its world premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival...
