Rhenzy Feliz walked into West Hollywood’s Soho House Holloway on Wednesday for The Hollywood Reporter’s Next Gen bash in partnership with Instagram and Waymo, posed for a couple of photos and then managed to perfectly capture the spirit of the celebration in a few short sentences.
“We’re surrounded by so many people who really care about this thing,” explained The Penguin breakout of this thing called entertainment. “People who are passionate about what we’re doing and the future of what it might look like. It’s exciting to even be a part of the conversation.”

One Piece's success ended a disappointing trend of live-action anime adaptations on Netflix. One Piece season 1 was well-received with a high critic score, and season 2 is happening Knights of the Zodiac served as a reminder of the challenges in adapting anime to live-action.

"This ain't gonna wipe your slate clean..." Vertigo Films has revealed the second official trailer for a gritty crime thriller meets action film titled Bad Hombres, from filmmaker John Stalberg Jr (following Muzzle last year). This one already opened in the US earlier this year (here's the first trailer) and is out now, this is another trailer from the UK distributor. Two undocumented immigrants looking for work take a job digging a hole, only to discover their employers are psychopathic criminals. They become embroiled in a blood bath, with one of them revealing a secret past that just might save them. Bad Hombres stars Diego Tinoco and Hemky Madera as Cesar and Alfonso, respectively, along with Luke Hemsworth, Thomas Jane, Nick Cassavetes, Paul Johansson, with Tyrese Gibson playing "The Man With No Name." This looks rather generic, with a batch of criminals crossing each other and getting into even more trouble,...

A scene from Bad Hombres. Credit: Screen Media.
Bad Hombres is a gritty little action drama based in the drug trade and illegal immigration along the US/Mexican border in the dusty southwest. We start with Felix (Diego Tinoco) and his cousin competing for day labor in a Home Depot-type of parking lot. The cousin, who’s been here a while, is showing him how to get by despite his almost complete lack of English. The two get separated, leaving Felix haplessly like a fish out of water. A friendly, chatty Aussie (Liam Hemsworth) approaches and hires him, along with a surly old guy who has a truck, Alfonso (Hemky Madera). The job is doing some digging in the desert, supposedly at his uncle’s ranch.
When they get to the remote location, they’re told to dig a big hole and start shoveling. They soon learn there ain...

One Piece's second season on Netflix will require the casting of the beloved character Ace, who plays a crucial role in the storytelling. Ace's casting requires an actor who matches his imposing visage, edge, optimism, and empathy. Diego Tinoco, Danny Ramirez, Aaron Dominguez, David Castro, Eman Esfandi, Michael Cimino, and Xolo Maridueña are potential actors who could bring Ace to life in One Piece season 2.
The excellent casting in One Piece season 1 has contributed to its overall positive reception, and with One Piece season 2 on the way, there's a strong chance viewers will see the beloved character, Portgas D. Ace. Notable for his Mera Mera no Mi Devil Fruit, Ace is protagonist Monkey D. Luffy's surrogate older brother. Ace's introduction in the Arabasta arc plays a crucial role in the series' storytelling, so the One Piece season 2 character casting is important. Although not related by blood, Ace and Luffy...

Mackenyu's role as Roronoa Zoro in Netflix's live-action adaptation of One Piece has brought him global fame and has been praised for its accuracy to the anime and excellent casting. It wasn't long for fans to start with their fantasy casting for Nintendo's live-action Legend of Zelda movie, and Walker Scobell very quickly emerged as one of the most popular picks.
After starring as a younger version of Ryan Reynolds' character in Shawn Levy's Netflix movie The Adam Project, Scobell will next lead the cast as the titular demigod in the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He's still on the rise with his career just getting started, but there are many fans who think he's got the abilities along with the right look to portray a live-action Link. On social media platforms like X, a consensus seems to be forming with continuous suggestions from fans for Scobell to be Link in the Nintendo film.

Movie adaptations of well-loved properties often flop, like Dragonball Evolution and Netflix's Knights of the Zodiac, due to poor scriptwriting and lack of faith in the source material. Dragonball Evolution failed not only because it strayed from the source material, but also because of bad visual effects, messy storylines, and controversial casting choices. Knights of the Zodiac repeats many of Dragonball Evolution's mistakes, receiving negative reviews for its use of CGI and hard-to-follow plot, but is praised for its portrayal of the anime's melodramatic atmosphere and representation of an Asian lead character.
A movie adaptation is always a risk, especially when it is tackling a well-loved property or developing an animated piece into the live-action realm, and unfortunately more often than not, these adaptations are flops, just like Dragonball Evolution and Netflix's most recent anime adaptation, Knights of the Zodiac. In 2009, Dragonball Evolution became one of the worst anime movie adaptations ever.

If the "John Wick" films are any indication, action heroes could always use a little canine companionship. It just so happens that there's a long-standing aspect of law enforcement where the dog and human relationship is already built-in: The K-9 unit.
You've likely seen numerous buddy cop movies, and even a handful of K-9 films. However, those movies tend to lean heavily on the comedy aspects of man's best friend fighting bad guys. Witness the old Rin Tin Tin series, or the films "K-9" and "Turner & Hooch," for starters. Even last year's Channing Tatum vehicle with the world's most inspired title, "Dog," milked its military mutt more for melodrama than action.

Mortal Kombat meets Power Rangers in the undercooked and over-the-top Knights of the Zodiac, a live-action adaptation of the Japanese anime series, Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya, and the manga Saint Seiya by Masami Kurumada. Kurumada has always wanted to adapt his manga while he worked on it, and you can see why in the opening narration. But like many manga and anime with great stories of epic battles, intricate mythologies, and colorful characters, their potential only sometimes translates to live-action. More often than not, Hollywood cannot faithfully adapt anime stories without sacrificing some crucial elements, and the same goes for Knights of the Zodiac.
Directed by Tomasz Bagiński, Knights of the Zodiac tells the story of Seiya (Mackenyu), a teen boy who lives on the streets and survives by fighting in underground martial art rings. One night, his fight gets out of hand and power within manifests. He...

It takes a lot of fierce determination to give birth to a new franchise, but Sony Pictures seems up for the behemoth task with Knights of the Zodiac. The bold live-action adaptation of the Saint Seiya manga, plucked from the popular television anime series and comics, comes from Polish director/producer Tomasz Baginski (The Witcher: Blood Origin) and stars Mackenyu (Pacific Rim: Uprising) as Seiya, a street orphan who realizes he must protect Sienna (Madison Iseman of TV’s I Know What You Did Last Summer), a girl suddenly inhabited by Athena, the goddess of war. Saving the world is definitely on the agenda — big time — but Seiya must face his own past and become a Knight of the Zodiac.
The compelling cast also includes Sean Bean, Famke Janssen, Nick Stahl (Fear the Walking Dead), Diego Tinoco (On My Block), and Mark Dacascos (John Wick: Parabellum).

Plot: When a goddess of war reincarnates in the body of a young girl, street orphan Seiya discovers that he is destined to protect her and save the world. But only if he can face his own past and become a Knight of the Zodiac.
Review: Live-action adaptations of anime films and series have succeeded in Japan, but few have overcome the transition to Hollywood. For every Alita Battle Angel, there is a Ghost in the Shell, Dragon Ball Evolution, and Death Note. The cultural barrier aside, there has never been the right balance between ambition and execution. Sony’s Knights of the Zodiac is a valiant attempt to bring the Saint Seiya anime to life with a modest budget and recognizable actors just below the A-list. Knights of the Zodiac is the live-action adaptation of the beloved Saint Seiya manga, and the film is jam-packed with stylish action and great characters powered by cosmic energies. The film features a young girl named Sienna (Madison Iseman) who has mysterious powers awakened inside of her that threaten the safety of the world unless she learns to control them. Her father, Alman Kido (Sean Bean), and his close friend Mylock (Mark Dacascos) attempt to find the Knights destined to protect the goddess, but they are pursued by her mother, Guraad (Famke Janssen), and the intimidating Nero (Diego Tinoco). Anime has an uneven track record of being adapted in live-action outside of Japan. Asian filmmakers have made plenty of movie versions of beloved manga and anime series, but in Hollywood, there is a Ghost in the Shell for every Alita: Battle Angel. Thankfully, Sony has invested in an international cast for the live-action take on Saint Seiya with the clout of some familiar faces for the upcoming Knights of the Zodiac.
Knights of the Zodiac tells the story of a headstrong street orphan, Seiya, in search of his abducted sister who unwittingly taps into hidden powers, he discovers he might be the only person alive who can protect a reincarnated goddess, sent to watch over humanity. Can he let his past go and embrace his destiny to become a Knight of the Zodiac? The film stars Mackenyu as Seiya, Madison Iseman as Sienna, Sean Bean as Alman Kido, Famke Janssen as Guraad,...

Tomasz Bagiński’s Knights of the Zodiac features a hugely talented cast of popular actors that bring this fantasy epic to life and make every single character fun and memorable. The movie is based on the beloved Japanese manga Saint Seiya, which tells a complicated story of Gods and Goddesses that find themselves trapped in the mortal realm and forced to protect the world from deadly threats. Knights of the Zodiac uses this timeless story as inspiration and crafts an equally exciting narrative about the conflict between humans and deities in the modern age.
Saint Seiya was a hugely popular manga series throughout the ‘80s in Japan, and Baginski’s Knights of the Zodiac marks the first mainstream attempt to adapt this story for the big screen.
