‘Influencers’ Review: Living Too Well Gets the Best Revenge in a Sleek Shudder Sequel
Image
Providing a useful variation on Patricia Highsmith’s globe-trotting sociopath Tom Ripley for the social media era, “Influencer” was a hit for Shudder in 2023. So now director Kurtis David Harder and star Cassandra Naud are back with “Influencers,” a worthy sequel that maintains the original’s upscale gloss and narrative twistiness while adding a sufficient number of new wrinkles.

The indictment of narcissistic online culture is still little more then an excuse for glam intrigue, and our not-infrequently-lethal anti-heroine’s motivations remain just as cloudy as they were last time. But a good time in enviable vacation spots is guaranteed, with ghoulish demises for many principal figures here served up like caviar on sashimi. This tasty if not particularly healthy repast will be served on Shudder later this year.

A prologue finds one young woman slitting her own throat on the patio of a luxe Southeast Asian manse, then crawling...

Fantasia 2025 Review: Influencers Brings More Blood, More Commentary, and Earns More Likes
Image
Kurtis David Harder’s Influencers is an unexpected smash sequel to 2022’s stolen identity chiller (same title sans pluralization). Where Influencer ends is reasonably straightforward: the baddie’s stranded on an island, and an online celebrity still has her health. But Harder’s not done with these clout-gobbling characters, and he’s got the storytelling juice to prove it. Influencers continues to examine the despicable relationship humanity has developed with the internet by going sleazier, crazier, and bloodier this time around. Harder’s Wi-Fi Noir has even more psycho energy, enough to match the manipulative lunatics caught scrambling for answers under the continuation’s magnifying glass.

Cassandra Naud returns as the elusive and somehow free-living CW, last seen left stranded by Madison (Emily Tennant). She’s now in Southern France, celebrating a milestone relationship anniversary at a lavish resort with her photographer lover, Diane (Lisa Delamar). That’s where they...

Influencers Review: Social Media Serial Killer CW Returns To Meat Cleaver The Manosphere [Fantasia 2025]
If you’ve ever wanted to take a meat clever to the Manosphere, get ready to live vicariously through your favourite social media sociopath in the lush Destination Thriller Influencers. Picking back up where he left off in 2023’s indie killer hit Influencer, writer/director Kurtis David Harder continues the story of the mysterious & deadly CW (Cassandra Naud) who, last we left her, was stranded on a desert island after hacking her way through a truck load of social media personalities. Influencers returns to the dark side of the digital world, bringing in updated tech and some new online assholes for CW to torment.

Reprising her role from Influencer (2023), Cassandra Naud delivers another diabolical performance as an identity-stealing techno serial killer, but Influencers also gives her the space to stretch and play with the character’s more emotional side. When Influencers begins CW is living in the south of France,...

‘Influencers’ Review – Shudder Sequel Provides a Great Game of Cat and Mouse [Fantasia 2025]
Image
The benefit of a sequel is that you can hit the ground running. The lore, the characters, even the narrative format, have all been established, so filmmakers can dispense with the formality of introducing everything except the new plot.

Writer/director Kurtis David Harder absolutely embraces this approach for his sequel, Influencers. Building off the events of the 2023 film, the sequel opens with a moment of violence, before catching up with CW (Cassandra Naud) one year later.

CW now identifies as Catherine. She’s living in the south of France with her girlfriend, Diane (Lisa Delamar), eating at cute cafes and preparing for a weekend in the country to celebrate their one year anniversary. It seems as though the sociopath has turned over a new leaf: she’s happy and in love, even if Diane clearly has no idea who CW really is.

Things quickly fall apart when they arrive...

Cassandra Naud returns to star opposite Georgina Campbell (Barbarian). The cast also includes Lisa Delamar (Survive), Jonathan Whitesell (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”), Veronica Long (“Billy the Kid”), and Dylan Playfair (“Letterkenny”).

The sequel moves the action from Thailand to southern France, where a young woman’s chilling fascination with murder and identity theft sends her life into a whirlwind of chaos.

It’s produced by Jackrabbit Media, which will rep international rights at Cannes.

“With Influencers, I wanted to revisit the themes of control and illusion, but from a new angle — one that’s more seductive, more dangerous, and more unhinged,” said Harder. “It’s a film that plays with perception.
