Balancing a mix of growing pains and triumphs, the best coming-of-age K-dramas have relatable narratives that depict a crucial moment in life for young adults. Leaving behind their childhood and gearing up to enter the real world, the protagonists in coming-of-age K-dramas experience a range of highs and lows. Many of the genre's best set its K-dramas in high school or college, with academic competition and the pressure to succeed setting up an ideal obstacle for the series' characters to push through.
In addition to finding oneself, heavily featured in these K-dramas are subplots about romance and friendship. Many coming-of-age series see protagonists in new relationships that bloom and old ones that are tested. Though many series in the genre are lighthearted, they are not without their more poignant storylines. The balance of heartbreak and happiness within these K-dramas is deftly managed, and they create narratives that are honest and ultimately relatable to audiences.

K-drama When The Phone Rings is the perfect blend of spicy romance, loads of mystery, and just the right amount of drama that nearly feels too over the top but isn’t. I’m going to be honest; it’s really hard to find other shows that are similar in any way, but I guess, as I always do, I’ll try to list some shows that share at least one of these things in common with When The Phone Rings. If you’re familiar with our website, you know I’ve been saying this in nearly every episodic recap, but I find the show quite reminiscent of some old shows, particularly from 2013-2016, so it wouldn’t make sense if I made a listicle without any shows from that time. With that said, though, I will try to give you a balanced set of shows, both old and new,...

A spine-chilling and fearsome K-drama villain can turn a mediocre show into a captivating journey. K-dramas tend to be a blend of genres, mixing elements like dark fantasy with heartwarming romances, but the best K-dramas have incredible villains. While the heroes of K-dramas are central to the show, the villains often steal the spotlight and drive the narrative. Ranging from violent serial killers to corrupt and selfish individuals with power, K-drama villains elevate the show's tension and keep viewers hooked.
K-drama villains come in different variations, from fantastical demons and supernatural creatures to shockingly human villains with a vendetta. Strong, well-crafted, and compelling antagonists with complex or relatable motives are captivating to witness and make the perfect villains. While villains challenge their protagonists, cause conflicts, and blur the lines between good and evil, the most terrifying villains are the realistic ones that people can see in real life. “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” a hit in multiple other markets worldwide, crashed on its first lap at the South Korean box office. It failed to make even $1 million in on its opening weekend.
Instead, “Wonderland,” a sci-fi fantasy about Artificial Intelligence, took the top spot over the weekend.
Opening in fifth place, “Bad Boys 4” earned just $520,000 or 8% of the Korean market over the Friday to Sunday weekend, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). Over the five days since its Wednesday theatrical opening, it earned just $803,000.
At this pace, it is unlikely to catch the $3.54 million Korean total of “Bad Boys for Life,” which opened in January 2020.
Competition over the latest weekend was not exactly fierce. Korean-produced “Wonderland” earned a modest $1.66 million in top spot, with a market share of 25%. That was the second weakest first-placed opening of the year.

The recent announcement of a new song by Jeon Jung-kook, the youngest member of the popular South Korean boyband BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan), surprised the band’s fans. The song “Never Let Go” will be released on June 7, marking the group’s 11th debut anniversary. The fans of BTS, popularly known as Army, were already in a great mood as the group’s oldest member, Kim Seok-jin, is said to be returning from the military on June 12, and the new song was a cherry on top.
While the love between a celebrity and their fans is something really special, sometimes this also takes an ugly turn when certain obsessive fans try to invade the privacy of these stars. Let’s look at the incident when the golden maknae, a.k.a. Jk had a crazy sasaeng encounter.

Netflix is dropping great K-dramas like leaves falling in autumn. Just a little while ago, we got to see Doona, starring Bae Suzy and Yang Se-Jong, which mesmerized viewers with its stunning style and sweet story. November has kicked off with yet another fantastic K-drama, but this one is a little on the darker side. Now, the title is Daily Dose of Sunshine, but this show is rather draining and quite bleak until the end. Still, it tackles mental illness, something that has become prevalent in Korean dramas in the past few years. Daily Dose of Sunshine reflects on mental health in a country where the work culture is solely based on hierarchy. We learned in Revenant that Korea has the highest rate of suicides among Oecd countries. While sometimes Daily Dose of Sunshine comes across as overly dramatic, it sends a very clear message to those who may need help,...

Ever since Squid Game premiered on Netflix in 2021, it has continued to be the most-watched series on the streaming service. Despite the popularity of both Stranger Things season 4 and Wednesday in 2022, Squid Game has held onto its top position with 1.65 Billion hours watched total. Given the popularity of this series, it’s no surprise that Netflix would look to expand its offering of Korean titles.
According to Netflix’s own Tudum, 2023 will see at least 34 different Korean movies, TV shows, and unscripted series come to the streaming platform representing a variety of genres. In the article on Tudum, Netflix’s vice president of content for Korea, Don Kang, says:
“The global popularity of K-content has continued apace over 2022, with Netflix bringing a wider variety of stories and genres to fans around the world. Over the last year, Korean series and films have regularly featured in our Global Top 10 list in more than 90 countries,...

K-pop star Suzy will portray the pop idol while Yang Se-jong (“Temperature of Love” “Still 17” and “Dr. Romantic”) plays the starstruck male lead.
Suzy was previously a member of the K-pop group Miss A, before establishing a solo career some five years ago. She has previously acted in Netflix’s “Start-up,” “Anna” and “Uncontrollably Fond.”

Psy's star-studded ninth album boasts exciting collabs with Heize, Mamamoo's Hwa-Sa, and Jessi, among others. Bae Suzy even made an appearance in his "Celeb" music video. Now, the title track, "That That," has arrived, accompanied by a music video filled with the spellbinding and quirky group choreography and humorous shenanigans the "Gangnam Style" singer is known for - only this time, Suga is along for the ride.
In a promo clip about "That That," Suga and Psy reflected on their journey developing the song. "To be honest, I haven't gotten that close with anyone I collab with," Suga said. "It's because I'm usually not the type to meet up with collaborators in person. But he wanted to see me in person.

Lee is a top actor in his home country of Korea and across Asia, and the Apple TV+ series will doubtless show an even wider audience exactly why that is. Now that your interest is piqued, you might want to get to know him better and find out a bit about his past - and who he's dated. Here's what to know.
Who Has Lee Min-Ho Dated?
As is the case for many top actors, it's regularly speculated that Lee is dating his costars, but the rumors rarely, if ever,...

It may feel slightly strange that a director credited with blockbuster hits such as “A Bittersweet Life“, “I Saw The Devil” and “The Age of Shadows” would find himself directing a short revolving around the lost love of a young adult, but that is exactly where Kim Jee-woon finds himself. Far more tempered and restrained than his previous works, it is a welcome change of pace from Kim’s other directorial efforts, in turn excelling through its punchy pacing and accessible, vulnerable storytelling.
Predominantly, the narrative revolves around the recipient of the abrupt ending of a youthful relationship, Su-ji (Bae Suzy), as she navigates her way through life in the early stages of being dumped. Heartbroken, shocked, bitter, yet also optimistic, the post-adolescent seeks to reclaim an earned independence through the ten-minute feature, taking back her belongings from her ex-beau with a defined gravitas. However, as is the way with heartbreak,...
