Image
You might not know that the Terra Formars manga actually started back in 2011. Written by Yū Sasuga and illustrated by Kenichi Tachibana, the manga became a seinen classic, with many fans and critics praising its story, unusual art, and the believability of the horror it depicted.

And while the series had a solid and more or less continuous run from 2011 until roughly 2019, it then went on a years-long hiatus before coming back in 2024, but after about a year of continuous publishing… well, you know the drill.

Yes, sadly, it has been confirmed that the Terra Formars manga is going on another hiatus and we have all the details.

And while the series never became a mainstream work, the fandom of the Terraformars series is a loyal and large one. While most fans will know the series thanks to the anime adaptation, Terraformars is actually an ongoing manga series, a fact many fans are not aware of. Fans of the series will know that the Terraformars series has been on a hiatus for the last five years, but we are happy to confirm that the series is finally returning on April 4, 2024.

The Terraformars manga debuted on January 13, 2011, in the Miracle Jump magazine, but moved to Weekly Young Jump in 2012. It had been published continuously until December 2018, when it went on an indefinite hiatus following 22 published volumes. The reason given then was Sasuga’s health,...

[Fantasia Review] Terra Formars
It’s the tail end of the twenty-first century and Earth has nearly overstayed its welcome with dwindling resources and over-population. Scientists believe they can release the CO2 pockets underneath Mars’ surface and move the Red Planet from -50 degrees Celsius into a human-friendly temperature and atmosphere. So mankind sends rockets of moss and cockroaches to commence the process, a half-century passing before a team of colonists can finally journey forth. Everything should be ready for this hand-selected group under Ko Honda’s (Shun Oguri) supervision: go to Mars, kill the cockroaches, and return home with stories of our salvation via a new frontier. It sounds so simple and yet no one is prepared for what they’ll find because no one but Honda and the Japanese government know the truth.

That itself is a wild premise ripe for science fiction fun, but manga creators Yû Sasuga and Kenichi Tachibana are hardly finished.
