Netflix’s Sylvester Stallone-Backed Drama Enters Global Top 10 Chart(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Netflix has a way of pulling you into stories that feel almost too intense to be true. Lost on a Mountain in Maine, a survival drama backed by Sylvester Stallone, is one of those. It dives into the real-life nightmare of a 12-year-old boy stranded alone in the wilderness for nine days.

According to Collider, the young kid, Donn Fendler, played by Luke David Blumm, gets lost in the deep Maine forest. The film does not just focus on Donn’s ordeal but also pulls in the voices of those who lived through the search, giving you the panic and heartbreak his family felt as each day passed.

“Lost on a Mountain in Maine” follows the harrowing yet inspiring journey of a 12-year-old boy lost for 9 days in the wilderness. Don’t miss it—streaming now on Angel.#AngelStudios pic.

Despite a 53% Rotten Tomatoes Score, This Sylvester Stallone-Produced Survival Drama Is a Global Streaming Hit
Image
There are some movies that can make you involved in the story with their premise alone. That seems to be the case with Lost on a Mountain in Maine, a survival drama produced by Sylvester Stallone (Tulsa King) that is rapidly climbing the charts on Netflix. First released in 2024, the movie tells the horrifying true story of a 12-year-old boy who gets trapped in a hostile mountain environment for nine days in Maine.

If Lost on a Mountain in Maine was not a real story, viewers would be curious enough to see how young Donn Fendler (Luke David Blumm) survives some of the worst days of his life in the forest. The fact that it was all real makes it even more compelling. The movie brings some real-life accounts from the people that witnessed the events in order to better convey all the emotions that were going through the minds...

Sylvester Stallone's Criminally Underrated Adventure Drama With 83% Rt Audience Score Is Finally Getting Recognition on Streaming
Image
Sylvester Stallone is primarily known for his acting, for which he received two Academy Award nominations. However, the actor is also a director and a producer, and he has been behind many titles without starring in them.

One of them is 2024's Lost on a Mountain in Maine, for which Stallone is a producer. The film is an adventure drama based on the true story told in Donn Fendler's book of the same name, which narrates the author's experiences as a 12-year-old boy lost in the wilderness. Lost on a Mountain in Maine, which most fell under the radar, has reportedly found new life on Netflix one year later, according to Tudum.

Lost on a Mountain in Maine premiered on Jul. 13, 2024, at the Maine International Film Festival and hit theaters on Nov. 1 of the same year. It hit digital and PVOD on Jan. 7, 2025, with physical media released on Mar.

‘Lost on a Mountain in Maine’ Review: A True-Life Survival Story Suitable for Audiences of All Ages
Image
In the tradition of “Death of a Salesman,” “The Assassination of Trotsky” and “Penn and Teller Get Killed,” “Lost on a Mountain in Maine” arrives with an on-the-nose title that serves as fair warning: Few surprises await you here. On the other hand, there’s never any doubt that things will work out Ok for Donn Fender (Luke David Blumm), the 12-year-old protagonist. Indeed, during the opening minutes of this family-friendly true-life drama, the beans aren’t merely spilled, they are tossed while director Andrew Boodhoo Kightlinger and scripter Luke Paradise (working from a same-titled memoir co-written by the real Donn Fender) give a pinky-swear promise that a happy ending looms large on the horizon.

But maybe that’s not such a bad thing: If you’re watching “Lost on a Mountain in Maine” with impressionable children, you won’t have to worry about their ever getting too terrified if...

Lost on a Mountain in Maine Review: Predictable True Survival Drama
Image
Lost on a Mountain in Maine is a survival drama about a 12-year-old boy who gets lost on a mountain in Maine. If that sounds rather obvious, wait until you see the film. The new feature offers few surprises as it recounts, with workmanlike style and genuine compassion, the true story of pre-teen Donn Fendler, who was separated from his family while hiking Maine's Mount Katahdin in July 1939 and survived nine days without food, water, or appropriate clothing. Its a heck of a story and debuting feature director Andrew Boodhoo Kightlinger treats it in a fashion thats a bit tidy and traditional.

Where the film pushes against but cant quite break through the boundaries of the well-worn wilderness survival genre is in its portrayal of Donn as a young boy desperate to connect with his taciturn father bent low by the ravages of the Depression. In adapting the 1939 book written by Fendler and Joseph B.

Lost on a Mountain in Maine trailer: Sylvester Stallone-produced survival film coming to theatres in November
Image
Back in 1939, a 12-year-old named Donn Fendler was separated from his family during a storm near the summit of Mount Katahdin in Maine. Fendler was lost on that mountain for nine days, without food or proper clothing. When he came stumbling into a hunting camp that was 35 miles from the point where he had gone missing, he credited the Boy Scouts with giving him the knowledge he needed to survive. Fendler then told his story to writer Joseph B. Egan, resulting in a novel called Lost on a Mountain in Maine (you can pick up a copy Here), which is considered to be a children’s book classic. Now Lost on a Mountain in Maine has been given the film adaptation treatment, with Sylvester Stallone producing through his company Balboa Productions. Blue Fox Entertainment has picked up the distribution rights and is planning to give the film a theatrical release...

Nicolas Cage at an event for Drive Angry (2011)
Sympathy for the Devil review – a top-tier unhinged Nicolas Cage performance
Nicolas Cage at an event for Drive Angry (2011)
Forced to drive a mysterious passenger at gunpoint, David finds himself embroiled in a confusing, high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse

If you were programming a season of the best of the worst from Nicolas Cage’s filmography – in other words, his most interesting/outlandish/crazed performances in low-budget films – this kooky thriller would certainly be a good candidate. It features an entertainingly deranged performance from Cage, who sports a helmet of bright-red hair and a maroon smoking jacket that makes him look like a leprechaun turned lounge singer, topped off with a broad Boston accent. Cage’s unnamed character crawls without invitation into the car of David, who is already late getting to the hospital where his wife is giving birth. Despite David’s protestations that he’s not a taxi or Uber, he pulls a gun on David and insists he start driving. Who would dare to say no to...

Fantasia 2023: ‘Sympathy For the Devil’ Review
Image
Stars: Nicolas Cage, Joel Kinnaman, Kaiwi Lyman | Written by Luke Paradise | Directed by Yuval Adler

Well, my friends… Another day, another Nicholas Cage movie. I seriously don’t know why I do it to myself, but every time I see a Cage movie appear, well I just can’t help myself. I have to watch them just to see just how Nicolas Cage this Nicolas Cage movie could be. Does anyone else have this unhealthy obsession… No? Just me? Oh right.

Sympathy for the Devil tells the story of The Driver (Joel Kinnaman). Tonight The Driver should be with his wife, she is in the hospital giving birth. While parking up at the hospital he is joined by a mysterious man known only as The Passenger (Nicholas Cage). The Driver soon realises he hasn’t been mistaken for an Uber and The Passenger has something nefarious planned for the night ahead.

Sympathy For The Devil Review: Nicolas Cage Thriller Can’t Sustain Interest
Image
Editor's Note: This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the movie being covered here wouldn't exist.

Sympathy for the Devil is a fundamentally flawed film; holding our attention is the bare minimum for a thriller, and it manages that only sporadically. It does, however, make for an interesting review subject. While watching it, I found myself conscious of its machinations, spending the time I was supposed to be invested in the story thinking through why it wasn't drawing me in. The right pieces are there, for the most part, and though they cannot seem to form a cohesive whole long enough to sustain tension, the reasons why it builds or dissipates are always quite clear. Those who enjoy turning movies into intellectual exercises, as I am about to do, might wring a bit more entertainment...

Exclusive: Director Yuval Adler Says Nicolas Cage Brought Serious Punk to Sympathy for the Devil
Image
“It can't all just be Barbie and Oppenheimer,” chuckled director Yuval Adler of why it’s an ideal time for his comedy thriller, Sympathy for the Devil, to hit the screen. “If you like something punky. That's our film.”

Here’s to punky. And Nicolas Cage, for that matter. The actor brings a wicked kind of mania to Adler’s new film about an unhinged carjacker (Cage) and the man he puts through hell, David (Joel Kinnaman of The Killing and Suicide Squad). Cage plays a mysterious passenger who enters David’s car, holds him at gunpoint, and forces him to drive. The offbeat nighttime road trip in and around Las Vegas ultimately turns into a wild game of cat and mouse. Not everything is at it seems.

“It’s a fun ride,” said Adler of the film. “There's something existentialist about it, and something about identity and the past,...

‘Sympathy for the Devil’ Review – Not Even Nicolas Cage Can Liven Up This Thriller
Image
No matter the role or movie, Nicolas Cage reliably makes fascinating choices that captivate and frequently entertain. So, it goes without saying that Cage playing an enigmatic gun-wielding madman sounds like the perfect foil for Joel Kinnaman’s straight-man in the cat-and-mouse road thriller Sympathy for the Devil. Despite Cage’s presence and the pulpy stylings, though, this chamber piece frequently threatens to fall asleep at the wheel.

Sympathy for the Devil introduces its protagonist, credited only as The Driver (Kinnaman), as a doting dad dropping his son off with his mother-in-law before heading to the hospital where his wife is in labor with their second child. The Driver pulls into the parking garage only for a strange man with bright red hair and a snazzy suit to calmly slide into his backseat and hold him at gunpoint. The Passenger ignores all please and instructs The Driver to head out toward an undisclosed location,...

Sympathy For The Devil Review
Image
Nicolas Cage as a manic, sarcastic, carjacking lunatic with control issues? Sign us up. In director Yuval Adler’s dark comedy thriller, Sympathy for the Devil, Nicolas Cage is totally unleashed. Fun to watch? Yes. Does it wear thin? Yes. Will you care? Ultimately, by the end, maybe not.

Cage doesn’t cover new creative ground here. He seems pumped up from the critical raves he received in 2022’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent yet undeterred by the Wtf-ness of it all that was Renfield. The Nic Cage we get in Sympathy for the Devil is a cross between those two “performances.” Regardless, the man drives this tale, which was penned by screenwriter Luke Paradise.

The plot finds Joel Kinnaman, playing against type as David, a by-the-book married man on his way to a Las Vegas hospital where his wife is in labor. That doesn’t go as planned.

Sympathy for the Devil Review: Nicolas Cage Gets Satanic in Psychological Thriller
Joel Kinnaman
D (Joel Kinnaman) is never late. For anything. He couldn’t let someone down even if he tried. So there’s no reason to worry when he learns his wife has gone into labor. At least nothing beyond the knowledge he’ll be as anxious about not being around to supervise things at work, since he’s soon becoming a dad again. All he must do is follow the checklist.

Grab the bag. Drop off their son at his mother-in-law’s house. Call into the office one last time to ensure everything is under control. And arrive at the hospital with time to spare. Maybe he’ll hit traffic. Maybe she’ll be induced due to the complications that led to them losing their first child. Maybe a strange man in red (Nicolas Cage) will jump into the backseat of his car the second he parks, gun drawn and demanding...

Sympathy for the Devil Review: Nic Cage Gives It One Hundred Percent in Low-Rent Crime Thriller
Yuval Adler
Directed by Yuval Adler from a screenplay by Luke Paradise, Sympathy for the Devil plays like a cut-rate Collateral, except with the unfortunate cabbie at the center of Michael Mann’s film swapped out with a hostage driver named David (Joel Kinnaman). As soon as David, an expectant father, pulls into the parking garage of the hospital where his wife is about to give birth, Nicolas Cage’s gangster character hops into the backseat and holds him at gunpoint, forcing him to drive away. From there, Sympathy for the Devil verges on plotlessness as it skates through such timeworn scenarios for the crime movie as being pulled over by a cop or stopping off at a diner, never managing an ounce of tension or mystery along the way.

Cage’s character, credited only as the Passenger, regales David with a litany of self-conscious musings that are all over movies of...

Exclusive: Sympathy for the Devil Cinematographer Steve Holleran Puts Nic Cage in Sin City
Image
With a mysterious backstory linking a timid taxicab driver (played by Joel Kinnaman) and his psychotic, red-haired passenger (who is brought to life by none other than Nicolas Cage), the blurred neon lights as well as the sprawling desert of Las Vegas help to bring the madness to life in Sympathy for the Devil.

Directed by Yuval Adler and written by Luke Paradise, the upcoming film is super suspenseful and downright psychologically terrifying at times. Most interestingly, at least from a production standpoint, is that more than half of this film was shot inside a car that was on a LED volume sound stage.

Consisting of many monitor panels that form an entire wall’s length and height of fully customizable video content (which can manually be curved to and fro to fit any needs), cinematographer Steve Holleran had the chance to harness this state-of-the-art technology for this full-fledged theatrical film.

Sympathy For The Devil: Release Date, Cast, Story, Trailer & Everything We Know
Image
2023 is Nicolas Cage’s year of horror movies, as he's already played Count Dracula in Renfield and will star in the upcoming Sympathy for the Devil. While Renfield delved into supernatural elements, Sympathy for the Devil focuses on psychological horror with Cage as an ominous carjacker who bears the actor's trademark over-the-top mannerisms. The movie is helmed by Israeli director Yuval Adler whose previous work includes the internationally co-produced thriller The Operative and the American thriller drama The Secrets We Keep. Newcomer Luke Paradise pens the screenplay for Sympathy for the Devil, which promises to be a roller coaster ride full of road movie genre tropes and bleak humor.

With the potential to offer one of Cage's wildest movie performances, Sympathy for the Devil’s major selling point is its leading star. But beyond the casting, the movie also offers an atmospheric, nerve-inducing journey with its premise of a carjacking...
