Monogamy isn’t for everyone. Some people like to spice things up in the bedroom by adding a third (or more) to the mix. To each their own, though you’d best be ready to deal with the consequences of an unplanned pregnancy or catching feelings for one partner and not the other. In Vertical‘s The Threesome trailer, Zoey Deutch, Jonah Hauer-King, and Ruby Cruz discover the complications that could come from one night of abandon.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Threesome:

"I'm not doing this is there's a side-piece baby momma, absolutely not!" Vertical has revealed the official trailer for The Threesome, a funny sex comedy from filmmaker Chad Hartigan. This first premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, with stops at many other fests, and it opens in theaters this September. A young man's perennial crush leads him into an unexpected threesome – he thinks it's his ultimate fantasy come true. (Obviously...) When the fantasy ends, all three are left with sobering real-world consequences and they must take responsibility for their actions. An impulsive night leads to a wild threesome between Olivia, Connor, and Jenny, leaving both women facing unexpected surprises, thrusting all three right into the raw and beautifully messy chaos of adulthood. The trailer reveals what's really going on in here – it's not that big of a surprise. Starring Zoey Deutch, Jonah Hauer-King, and Ruby Cruz as the trio,...

Things are about to get hot, heavy, and very complicated for Jonah Hauer-King, Zoey Deutch, and Ruby Cruz. Vertical has released the first trailer for The Threesome, a romantic comedy that is so much more than its opening encounter. The footage teased a messy romantic journey that goes beyond sex and follows its three stars as they come to terms with what it means to be a true adult and take accountability when it matters. It's a dramatic tale all about the emotional entanglements and the consequences that arise from one night together, and it's set to hit theaters on September 5.
The Threesome casts Hauer-King as the unassuming Connor, who has long had a crush on his former co-worker, Olivia (Deutch). On one fateful night, while visiting the restaurant that employed them both, she steers them both toward an encounter with the alluring Jenny (Cruz), who had been stood up by her date.

Exclusive: Saturday Night Live cast member Devon Walker today announced the launch of My Favorite Lyrics, a new music-themed comedy podcast that will premiere on Tuesday, April 29, with SNL scribe Alex English as its first guest. He also unveiled a first trailer, which you can check out above.
Each week on My Favorite Lyrics, Devon will invite people he thinks are cool to talk about the music that shaped them and the lyrics they can’t get out of their heads. Whether they’re iconic, idiotic, or accidentally profound, no bar is safe. From deep cuts to guilty pleasures, each guest peels back the layers of the songs that left a mark on them — for better or worse.
“God knows we don’t need another podcast from a comedian,” Walker admitted, “but I came to this idea via something I love: rappers saying some of the silliest sentences you’ve ever heard.

The Walt Disney Company has been around for more than 100 years, and during that century-plus the studio has developed a reputation for wholesome, all-ages entertainment. Because of that reputation, Disney is often an easy target when it dares to stray from a very narrow definition of "family-friendly."
It’s not uncommon for Hollywood studios to be attacked by conservatives for anything resembling diversity in race, gender, or sexuality. But many right-wing outlets have pushed Disney into the middle of the culture war even when its executives — including CEO Bob Iger — clearly want nothing to do with that.
Within the past week, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has drawn ire among social media commentators for revealing a female Silver Surfer (played by Emmy winner Julia Garner) in the latest trailer, which is being presented among some quarters as evidence of Mouse House's alleged “woke agenda.” If this all sounds familiar, that...

“31 Candles,” a romantic comedy from “Exmas” director Jonah Feingold, has been acquired by Level 33 Entertainment.
The film will hit theaters in North America later this year. Level 33 will also represent “31 Candles” for international sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Market.
“31 Candles” follows a 30-year-old New Yorker named Leo Kadner (Feingold), who spontaneously plans his long-overdue Bar Mitzvah after running into his former summer camp crush, Eva Shapiro (newcomer Sarah Coffey). Jackie Sandler, Dale Moss (“The Bachelorette”), comedian Jared Freid, Catherine Cohen (“Only Murders In The Building”), Lori Tan Chinn (“A Man on the Inside”), Caroline Aaron (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Larry Owens (“Abbott Elementary”) round out the cast.
“This is all a Bar Mitzvah boy could ever want — a chance to share a personal, funny, Jewish love story with the world,” Feingold said. “I hope audiences support our completely independent film.”
Feingold also wrote and directed “31 Candles,” which is his fifth feature film.

As one of the top companies in its field, fans, critics, and the public look to Disney for leadership, examine the themes in its movies, and praise or criticize the company for how it reflects the world. Among the points of interest is how LGBTQ people and their concerns are represented. Following the times, and in a few cases leading them, Disney has had characters in its films that audiences have perceived to be part of the queer community. However, some of these depictions have been more forward than others.
Few Disney characters are explicitly declared to be gay by the studio or its filmmakers, but viewers have picked up on "gay coding," meaning characters exhibiting traits corresponding with LGBTQ. Aud Bool on the blog Prezi describes the term: "Coded gay is when a gay stereotype, 'gay behaviors' or 'camp' are used to imply that a character is homosexual while...

Although LGBTQ representation was few and far in between among the headliners at this year’s SXSW, several indie darlings broke the industry’s cis-heteronormative mold to stand out.
From Special Jury Award winner Fucktoys, multi-hyphenate Annapurna Sriram’s bold celluloid fever dream of a feature debut, to The True Beauty of Being Bitten by a Tick, co-writer/director Pete Ohs’ captivating model for cooperative filmmaking, there’s a glimmer of hope that the future of the industry lies in the hands of a new generation of marginalized folk with the right amount of passion, vision and ingenuity.
While catching up with Sophia Bush about her upcoming One Tree Hill revival in the works at Netflix, the actress emphasized the importance of LGBTQ representation in media as the Trump administration continues to dismantle Dei.

Director Chad Hartigan fearlessly leads his intrepid team of actors into the fray with Grae Drake at SXSW 2025. When she asks a question (sort of) in the film ("What is a boring thing about you that you're really proud of?") the group gets very candid very fast. Zoey Deutch, Ruby Cruz, Jonah Hauer-King, and Jaboukie Young-White share the most/least fascinating things about themselves and show how much they love each other. Occasionally they also talk about the film, as well as The Little Mermaid, For All Mankind, the Most watched music videos in the world, and Companion. Also rat tails.
In the film, a young man's perennial crush leads him into an unexpected threesome, he thinks it's his ultimate fantasy come true. When the fantasy ends, all three are left with sobering real-world consequences, to take responsibility for their actions.

A big swing and nearly a miss, Chad Hartigan’s The Threesome is not without its charms even as it can overstay its welcome. A rom-com that offers a more serious tone for characters either in a state of arrested development or a new kind of adulthood that defies labels, it has much in common with Hartigan’s previous films, which live and breathe as hangout movies. His latest, written by Ethan Ogilby, starts to wane as characters continue bantering over the predicament they find themselves in time and again, leading to an awkward balancing act.
The fatal flaw is that lead Connor (Jonah Hauer-King) is too generic––a recording engineer living in Little Rock, Arkansas who appears to be an all-around good guy made for flirty banter. He’s always had a thing for hip waitress Olivia (the always-spirited Zoey Deutch). Olivia is either a free spirit or someone...

Variety reports that a movie musical directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) about Pharrell Williams’s childhood has been scrapped in post-production and will not be released.
The film, titled Golden, was slated to be released by Universal Pictures and features a cast which includes Kelvin Harrison Jr., Halle Bailey, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Brian Tyree Henry, Janelle Monáe, Missy Elliott, Quinta Brunson, Anderson .Paak, and Jaboukie Young-White. While it’s rare for a studio to scrap a movie at this stage of development, this isn’t like Warner Bros. shelving Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme for tax purposes. A star-studded movie musical about the childhood of Pharrell Williams has been permanently shuttered and will not see release in any capacity, Variety can report exclusively.
The project in question is “Golden,” originally titled “Atlantis,” and was directed by Michel Gondry (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”). It was set for wide theatrical release from Universal Pictures on May 5, though sources said that date was pushed internally last year. It boasts a heavyweight cast of chart toppers and an Oscar winner, including: Kelvin Harrison Jr., Halle Bailey, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Brian Tyree Henry, Janelle Monáe, Missy Elliott, Quinta Brunson, Anderson .Paak and Jaboukie Young-White.
Universal set up and financed the effort as part of their longstanding creative partnership with Williams (who is notably a composer and performer for the blockbuster “Despicable Me” franchise). Watch out, “Wolf Man” and “Better Man,” because the box office is about to be taken over by “Dog Man.”
Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s new movie has made $1.36 million at the box office in Thursday previews. It’s expected to make between $25 million to $30 million, though some predictions are as high as $40 million due to the demand for family fare.
Set in the kid-friendly world of “Captain Underpants,” “Dog Man” is written and directed by Peter Hastings and follows the adventures of the titular half dog, half police officer who fights crime. While Dog Man himself doesn’t speak, the voice cast is made up of Pete Davidson as Petey the cat, Dog Man’s feline nemesis; Lucas Hopkins as Li’l Petey, Dog Man’s sidekick; Lil Rel Howery as the police chief named Chief; Isla Fisher; Billy Boyd; Ricky Gervais; Stephen Root; Poppy Liu; Laraine Newman; Cheri Oteri; Melissa Villaseñor and more.

Harvey Guillén walked the red carpet Monday at the Los Angeles premiere of his new horror thriller, “Companion.” The actor said it felt good to be back at work after putting things on hold due to the Los Angeles wildfires. Guillén lives in Altadena. His house wasn’t destroyed by the fires, but it was left damaged.
“In these times of chaos and mourning and darkness, we need to create entertainment because we need to escape,” the “What We Do in the Shadows” star told me.
He was able to visit the neighborhood a couple of days ago. “There was a mural on the side of this historic building,” Guillén said. “The building was burnt down but this sign on the wall, which was all brick, said, ‘Altadena.’…It was so poetic. It was what the city is – yes, it’s had a hard time, but it’s still standing.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph has already brought her vocal chops to “Rustin,” “High Fidelity,” and the upcoming Pharrell Williams biopic, but the Academy Award winner is ready to fully showcase her opera background onscreen.
Randolph told IndieWire while attending the “Through Her Lens” cocktail reception, hosted by Tribeca and Chanel, that Pablo Larraín’s buzzy Maria Callas film “Maria” has opened the door for opera biopics — and Randolph is more than ready to bring history-making Leontyne Price’s story to the screen.
“It’s ironic because Angelina Jolie has the Maria Callas biopic [‘Maria’] coming up,” Randolph said. “I’m a classically trained opera singer. I want to do a biopic of an opera singer.”
Leontyne Price is celebrated as one of the great modern vocalists — she played title roles in both “Porgy and Bess” and “Aida.” If a success, “Maria” — and Randolph — could be what ultimately ushers Price’s legacy into movie theaters.

It’s been six years since Comedy Central’s The Daily Show last brought on a new correspondent, but it’s making up for lost time—by naming three.
Troy Iwata, Josh Johnson, and Grace Kuhlenschmidt are now officially full-fledged correspondents.
As regular viewers already know, all three have been familiar faces on The Daily Show for several months now.
Iwata and Kuhlenschmidt both first appeared on the show last October in in-studio “remote” pieces. Johnson first appeared on air in February with a pre-taped report on sneakerheads’ reactions to Donald Trump’s release of Trump-branded shoes, but has been a writer for the show since 2017.
Tds had not added a new face to its correspondent lineup since 2018, when Jaboukie Young-White was hired. (Young-White departed in 2021.)

Iwata and Kuhlenschmidt joined the show in October 2023 and Johnson, who was previously a writer on the show, made his on-screen debut in February. The move to official correspondents just happened, despite being on the show for a few months.
They join Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, Lewis Black, Klepper, and Sloan. However, the new trio will not be sharing...
