Upon entering the workroom on RuPaul's Drag Race for the first time, many of the contestants thought that McCook (and his character, Katya) were actually Russian. McCook was born in Boston, Massachusetts and characterises his drag persona as a bisexual Russian gymnast.

Won title of "Miss Congeniality" on season seven of reality show RuPaul's Drag Race (2009).

His drag persona is "Yekaterina Petrovna Zamolodchikova" aka "Katya Zamolodchikova" or just "Katya.".

McCook has a history of drug and alcohol addiction. In January 2018, he announced a hiatus from drag to focus on his mental health problems and rescheduled tours to spring 2019. In a later interview in March 2018, he revealed he had moved back in with his family due to a relapse into the use of methamphetamine and a psychotic break.

Appeared as his drag persona, Katya on the 7th season of RuPaul's Drag Race. He later competed on the 2nd season of RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars 2.
