Exclusive: The BBC has acquired broadcast rights to the British indie drama Kindling from debut feature filmmaker Connor O’Hara, which played in Competition at the 2023 Shanghai International Film Festival.

Written and directed by O’Hara, the pic was the first British film to screen at Shanghai in six years. The BBC’s license on the pic begins in November and lasts three years. Signature Entertainment released the film in the UK and Ireland and brokered the deal with the BBC. However, first contact was made with the broadcaster by Jamie Gamache, who produced the pic alongside Mark Foligno and first approached BBC buyer Simon Chilcott with the project.

“It’s sometimes quite clear what the BBC is after, and Kindling definitely felt like it,” Gamache told Deadline.

Netflix released the second action-packed trailer for the new season today, which sees Henry Cavill’s Geralt taking on the world as they pursue his adopted daughter.

“The war brewing outside is nothing compared to what Geralt will unleash to protect his daughter,” warns Joey Batey’s Jaskier.

The show picks up where season 2 left off with the unexpected found family of Geralt, Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer, and Freya Allen’s Ciri preparing to take on the forces coming for Ciri.

The Witcher executive producers Steve Gaub and Tomek Baginski recently teased how the fan-favorite Netflix series will replace its lead character, Geralt of Rivia.

Speaking with Yahoo UK, Gaub revealed that the transition between Henry Cavill and Liam Hemsworth as Geralt will be "flawless" and will even pull from Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. The EP teased that the forthcoming third season is "a very strong season for Henry, a great final run for him as Geralt. I think he left with his head held high and passing the reins as many franchises end up doing, passing a title character from one actor to another, and we're going to be in great hands with Liam." He continued, "We're looking forward to the new explorations of Geralt with a new person behind it, a new actor and a new face."

At Netflix's Tudum event, Witcher fans saw what will signal Henry Cavill's final portrayal Geralt of Rivia in a nearly 3-minute teaser filled with action. The Witcher season 3 will be split into two batches of episodes, with the first batch reaching the Netflix streaming service on June 29th and the rest being released on July 27th. With the first of those dates nearly upon us, Netflix has unveiled a quartet of character posters that feature Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Princess Cirilla of Cintra, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Joey Batey as the bard Jaskier. The Witcher is returning for its third season in June. The upcoming eight-episode season will be released in two parts and mark the end of star Henry Cavill’s time as Geralt of Rivia. Cavill announced that he would be departing the role in October of last year. Liam Hemsworth is taking over the role of Geralt for season four.

Netflix has released the first official teaser trailer for Season 3 of ‘The Witcher’, says ‘Variety’, revealing a glimpse at the final episodes starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia before Liam Hemsworth takes over the role in Season 4. Netflix is ready to throw one last coin to Henry Cavill, announcing that the actor’s third and final season as The Witcher‘s Geralt of Rivia will be released in two parts this summer.

The swords-and-sorcery drama will return for Volume 1 of Season 3 (aka Episodes 1–5) on Thursday, June 29, while Volume 2 (Episodes 6–8) will be held until Thursday, July 27.

Henry Cavill has let it be known that he is vacating the role of Geralt of Rivia after The Witcher season 3, and Liam Hemsworth will be taking over as Geralt in season 4. The end of the Cavill era is swiftly approaching, as Netflix has confirmed that The Witcher season 3 will be available to watch on the streaming service sometime in the summer of 2023… and today, they unveiled a poster for the new season. The Witcher franchise expands later this year on Netflix.

The streaming service announced Saturday during its Tudum Global Fan Event that The Witcher: Blood Origin will launch worldwide on December 25.

The six-part series is set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, and will tell a story lost to time - the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.

The BFI London Film Festival’s annual Works-in-Progress showcase, now in its third edition, will present nine new feature films and documentaries by U.K.-based filmmakers.

The showcase, which is part of the festival’s U.K. Talent Days focus, will be an in-person event on Oct. 8 screening extracts from each project introduced by their producer to an invited audience of international buyers and festival programmers. The projects are either in production or post-production. Clips will also be available online via a secure platform to a wider pool of invited international industry professionals.

‘The King’s Speech’ exec producer Mark Foligno produced ‘Kindling’.

UK-based Carnaby Sales and Distribution has acquired international rights to Connor O’Hara’s debut feature Kindling, which it will debut at Cannes next week.

Kindling is produced by Mark Foligno, who was an executive producer on The King’s Speech, and Jamie Gamache; for UK companies Haymarket Films, Lowkey Films and Hyprr Films.

The UK film tells the story of a young man with testicular cancer who decides to turn his final summer into a celebration of life, love and friendship. The film is based on O’Hara’s proof-of-concept short Infinite starring George MacKay.

Sometimes, when you're not too focussed on the minutiae of the Witcher-verse, this series takes on the trappings and tropes of a classic wartime drama.

The Witcher Season 2 Episode 4 is one of those instances where Triss tries to intervene before Ciri goes full-blown child soldier, while Yennefer and Cahir experience the life of fugitive refugees.

War makes heroes out of the most unlikely candidates and Dandelion's ... uh, sorry, Jaskier's turn as elf sympathizer and transporter, Sandpiper, is both a welcome return for the character and the best Wtf moment of the season so far.

One of the most anticipated arrivals is Dijkstra, the Redanian spymaster.
