Scripted Israel Celebrates Israeli Artists in Inaugural Hollywood Summit

The rooftop terrace of Hollywood’s Neuehouse was abuzz Thursday night at a fete celebrating Scripted Israel, a social summit promoting Israeli television on the global stage. The inaugural four-day event, which ran Sept. 19-21, paired 28 Israeli delegates – selected by partners at Jerusalem’s esteemed Sam Spiegal Series Lab and the Israeli Producers Association – with development and content executives in Hollywood, serving as a de facto workshop experience for TV writers and producers angling to make their splash Stateside.

Tchelet Semel, Director of Cultural Affairs, Consulate General of Israel, Los Angeles, and Daniel Susz, Director of Film & TV in North America, Israel Office of Cultural Affairs, Consulate General of Israel, were chief on-the-ground organizers of the summit.

Scripted Israel: LA Event To Welcome 17 Producers And 12 Writers; Organizers Unveil Partnerships With Sam Spiegel Series Lab And Israeli Production Body

Exclusive: U.S. execs headed to the inaugural Scripted Israel event in LA in September can expect to meet 17 prominent Israeli producers and a host of talent and writers.

Organizers have unveiled the line-up of participating companies at the event, which is aimed at uniting top Israeli talent and producers with major U.S. entertainment execs.

Among those signed up are MoviePlus Productions, which co-produced HBO drama Our Boys; Dori Media, which produced Apple TV+’s Losing Alice; Spiro Films, whose drama When Heroes Fly was picked up by Netflix; and Koda Communications, which made the scripted series that HBO’s Your Honor was based on.

Key screenwriters in attendance will include Nir Berger (Dead End), Omri Van Essen (Tehran) and Tehila Peter-Dansker. See the full lists below.

Hosted by the Consulates General of Israel in Los Angeles and New York, Scripted Israel will be held on September 19-22.

WestEnd Boards Israeli Female Army Comedy-Drama Series ‘Dismissed’

Exclusive: WestEnd Films has acquired international rights on Dismissed, the buzzy new satirical comedy-drama Israeli TV series about a group of female army recruits.

The show was created by Israeli Television Academy winner Nir Berger (Dead End) and Atara Frish (Heroine), who also directs. It is produced by Naomi Levari (One Week and a Day) and Saar Yogev (Chained) for Black Sheep Film Productions and Kan: Israeli Public Broadcasting. Kan is currently broadcasting the 10 x 35 series and has already picked it up for a second season.

WestEnd will handle sales through its TV-focused WeSeries banner. The company’s series credits include Valley of Tears, which recently aired on HBO Max, and Traitor, which is now in post-production; both series come from writers/producers Ron Leshem (Euphoria) and Amit Cohen (False Flag). NewFilmmakers L.A. & AMPAS Reveal Lineup For 2021 Israeli Film Festival

Exclusive: NewFilmmakers Los Angeles and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science (AMPAS) will kick off the New Year celebrating emerging Israeli filmmakers and talent with a virtual film fest.

Set for Jan. 11 and Jan. 14, the Nfmla and AMPAS exhibition will feature a lineup of short films and features, and a conversation with Honey Boy director Alma Har’el moderated by Rotten Tomatoes’ Jacqueline Coley, and a panel with Euphoria writer Ron Leshem and others.

Among the stacked lineup is Israel’s pick for the 93rd Oscars International Feature Film race, Ruthy Pribar’s Asia featuring Unorthodox‘s Shira Haas. Featured titles will highlight a range of topics including identity and interpersonal relationships.

The program will also include a special line-up of accomplished Israeli producers, who will be presenting their slates to Industry Delegation Members including Allie Moore at AMC Studios, Maia Hollinger at HBO, John Orlando at Universal and more.
