With the final season of “Younger” underway, Hilary Duff’s slate was open, as she set her eyes on her next project. And after the hotly anticipated Disney Plus revival of “Lizzie McGuire” fell apart, she was in-demand.

The new mother of three was looking for a project that would shoot in Los Angeles, her home base, after spending years working coast-to-coast, filming “Younger” in New York.

Speaking for the first time since “How I Met Your Father” was announced, Duff tells Variety about her excitement to star in the sequel to “How I Met Your Mother,” which will stream on Hulu.

10 episodes have been ordered, confirming that there was no pilot and that the project was picked up on the quality of the idea alone.

It's quite the turn of events when you consider that there have already been multiple attempts at bringing the series to fruition.

This Is Us and Love, Victor showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger will shepherd the series for Hulu.

Himym creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will return to exec produce the series alongside Aptaker and Berger.

Duff, meanwhile, will also take a producer credit on the series, while 20th Television will serve as the studio.

As Variety previously reported, ahead of the seventh and final season, “Younger” creator Darren Star began to develop a spinoff, which would be centered around Hilary Duff’s character, editor-turned-publisher Kelsey Peters. The potential spinoff still remains in early development, and Star is enthusiastic about the possibility for the new series.

“We’re talking about it. It’s a big question mark whether it’s going to happen,” Star says. “It could be great, but we never know if these things are going to happen until they’re going to happen.”

Star — the prolific TV writer, who also created “Sex and the City,” “Melrose Place,” “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Emily In Paris”– reveals that the spinoff would be set in Los Angeles, rather than New York City, where “Younger” is based.

After seven seasons, Younger is finally coming to an end this summer - but watching the final season will be a little different than the past seasons. Despite the cable network not officially announcing the upcoming seventh season as the last for the dramedy, series creator Darren Star says that he is planning it as the end.

“We are unofficially planning [Season 7] as a final season,” Star told TVLine exclusively while promoting the forthcoming Emily in Paris.

Younger Season 6 concluded in September 2019, and shooting for the seventh was set to commence earlier this year.

Like many TV series, it was brought to a halt because of Covid-19, but the creator told the outlet that the series is set to return to production in the coming weeks.

TV shows such as Grey's Anatomy and The Good Doctor have announced plans to integrate the pandemic into their next seasons.

That will be tougher for younger, with episodes written before the pandemic, and with the season set to pick up in the aftermath of previous plots.

A spinoff of Hilary Duff comedy “Younger” is in early development with creator Darren Star at ViacomCBS, a source tells Variety.

The TVLand half hour, starring Duff and Sutton Foster, is entering its seventh season, making it the cable network’s longest-running original scripted series. The show, which initially centered on Foster’s Liza Miller, a 40-year-old divorcee posing as a millennial in order to return to the book publishing industry, revolves around the friendship between Duff and Foster’s characters as they navigate their careers and relationships. Duff stars as editor Kelsey Peters.

The series was created, written and executive produced by Star. Last year, “Younger” ranked as the top cable comedy among women 18-49 and women 25-54.; TVLand said that the Season 6 premiere last June was its highest-rated season premiere ever among viewers aged 25-54 and women 25-54.
